All this discussion about food is making me hungry. I know, it's tough enough these days trying to stay relatively thin and healthy, but Thanksgiving and Christmas should be the two days out of the year where one can eat whatever they want. Godiva truffles and a cup of coffee after the meal...why not! Three helpings of turkey, mashed potatoes, cream spinach, stuffing, etc et al...GO FOR IT!!! In fact, wash it all down with wine or beer just because you can.

I have ventured into holistic health. According to mind -body guru Louise Hay, fat is an insulator. We use it to subconsciously insulate stressful, hurtful or painful things going on externally, and I tend to agree with that. I do note that obesity has skyrocketed as our stressful lifestyle has, also. Especially so since 9/11.

I'm wondering where the leadership is on this. I grew up during JFK's fitness in school times and distinctly remember all of us working hard in gym class (omg the sit ups ouch) I'm no commie but, we do need some leadership. What about tax breaks for gym memberships? They are very expensive nowdays. Does our government like us dumb, ignorant and fat? weeeellll......

We need not concern ourselves with King George's constant warnings about terrorists. We're doing a commendable job of killing ourselves.

Bad food become addictive due to the success of advertising. Food that is healthy should be marketed properly, one just need to look at the faces of children in institutions that eat good healthy wholesome lunches. Advertisers should market the sight of that well cooked steaming green vegetable dish...

Just a quick note about the Pumpkin Spice Latte: This is an instance where ANYTHING in moderation can fit into a healthy diet. Look, I'm not a Starbucks employee, but I love that I can go to their website and customize a drink to get nutrition info. Yes, the venti pumpkin spice will set you back a bit. But, the tall size pumpkin spice, made with skim milk and no whip? Just 200 calories. And you can make it a short size if that is still too high. It's the holidays, and we're stressed . . . don't eliminate your favorite little treats, or you'll end up overeating anyway!

where on earth did you hear that?? mothers weight when you were in the womb does not determine your weight! that's crazy crap. you are what you eat, period. I believe in quantity. that's it. enjoy it all, just don't eat it all.

Maybe I am the only one that is not taking this sarcastically, but most people are not perfect robots. They have much too much to do to be worrying about every calorie in their mouth, and most are not lazy slobs.

The number one indicator of whether you will be overweight is your mothers weight when you were in the womb. Behavior is also a problem, but the desire to eat is pretty powerful.
The best way to avoid screwing up a diet is to control your calories, exercise and keep stress down. All these are difficult under the best circumstances.

These are all great tools...But man, what a bunch of self righteous jerks you look like.

Is it me, or has America's burgeoning waistline possible have to do with all these dimwits preaching to us about their obsessive/compulsive calorie counting? Just shut up already! It's on the damn packaging. If we gave a crap - we'd read it. So stick your self-righteous calorie counting up yer *** and smoke a cigarette, why don't ya?

i think that americas burgeoning waistline has more to do with lazy slobs who eat too much. maybe if people put some thought in what went into our bodies we wouldnt be so unhealthy. healthy eating is preventative medicine. its not self-righteous, americans are completely out of control when it comes to our health habits, and maybe thats why our children are becoming obese and diabetic. telling someone to go smoke a cigarette is pathetic, i gave up 5 years ago and couldnt feel better

Is it me, or is it possible America's burgeoning waistline (and naturally rebellious tendencies) are triggered by these obsessive/compulsive dimwits preaching to us about calorie counting? Just shut up already! It's on the damn packaging, posted on the wall, available on the website, or whatever! If we gave a crap - we'd read it. So stick your self-righteous calorie counting up yer *** and smoke a cigarette, why don't ya?

Please, come on!! Let me go out with at least a good taste in my mouth!! What am I going get by not having a little tasty treats - another 6 to 9 months - thats for you - not me. Let me live while I am alive.

  • Posted By: notlongtogo @ 12/07/2007 11:58:57 PM

Please, if I am 82 - just give me something tastey - if a little holiday cheer, in the way of good treats is going to kill me - just let me go with a good taste in my mouth. What is not having going to get me (you) another 3 to 6 months. Fast forward yourself a few decades and see if it really makes that much difference. I thank God you won't be my caretaker.

I do have a comment for Geraldine Ferraro.
When a 82 years old, should this person not have treatment because of his age. Nursing homes get away with to much. Let a person go home with multiple myeloma on July 1 2007 and the person passed August 30, 2007. Health System need to changed.

Damn! As usual, all the good things in life to eat or the worst for you. I guess I should think about intravenous feeding?
