god is was made as a father figure ther to answer questions man at the time had no idea how to answer example
"daddy why is the sky blue?"
    "god wills it"
god is nothing more then an obsessive lie.

God is created by the selfish and scared notion of humans that believe that they deserve to live forever.

I personally do not believe there is any such thing as an atheist. All human beings know there is a God. Atheist are just to angry at him to acknowledge him.

The problem is, faith is a personal thing. Faith in something get's nothing done. It might make you feel "all warm inside" but it doesn't do a damn thing. As an athiest, one thing that irks me to no end is how science and reason can be used to prove a majority of theological quandries people have....but the second the answer isn't known...well, it must be god! What a copout. I don't deny that Jesus once existed, but you're looking a t a story that was passed down and re-written, re-interpreted and translated thousands of times over. The stories of miracles and miraculous deeds are just that...stories (mythology anyone?) In todays' society, I think we are finding that fatih and religion will slowly be antiquated and reason will rise in it's place.

Some of the greatest thinkers were people of faith, Thomas Jefferson for one , yes he was a a Deist. Sir Issac Newton anther great example. George Washington Carver.Leonardo da Vinci.Galileo Galilei Benjamin Franklin was raised as an Episcopalian but was a Deist as an adult. Deist do not deny the exsist of God , or faith in God, or even Jesus , just the super natruel part.

Comment: Naomi A. When dealing with science and religion about our world, it is found that they are intertwined and well as they are seperated. However, although many a religion is faith-based, it is not to say it cannot be proved by science, or in Stark's case reason. We can use the "vaccuum argument" which says that mankind was built with an empty void which can only be fulfilled by God as reason. Yet science is still a limit in itself because man is limited, and thus we cannot point the finger and say it is this way or that. As atheists set out to use science to dissprove there is a God, so Christians use science to prove God. And just as Christians have faith there is a God, atheists in faith say there is no God. Science and religion in different areas go hand in hand. Reason had allowed us to look at our world and observe what we think seems to be true.

A TRUE CHRITIAN BELIEVES THROUGH FAITH, A CONCEPT THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH. THIS IS WHAT SEPARATES CHRISTIANS AND NON BELIEVERS. YOU JUST CAN,T TALK THE TALK, YOU MUST WALK THE WALK. IF EVERY CHRISTIAN BELIEVED IN FAITH, THE TEACHINGS OF THE BIBLE, WOULD BECOME CRYSTAL CLEAR. THERE IN NO DEBATE ON THIS ISSUE.

    Dear Francois21,

You said, "The very reason that Chrisitanity offers the most complex and nuanced vision of God is that it attempts to comport the difference between the savage Jehovah of the Hebrew Scriptures with the loving Father presented by Jesus."

This is the same comment made by Marcion, who was a former gnostic and very anti-Jewish. He attempted to come up with a New Testament that removed any pro-Jewish statements including those by Paul and Luke. He said that the God of the Old Testament was not the same God of the New Testament. Unfortunately, plenty of people still believe that nonsense. God is the same in both Old and New Testaments as Jesus Himself clearly affirms in the question posed to Him by the religious leaders in Matthew 22 regarding the resurrection (verse 32) and regarding the two most important commandments (verses 34-40). Paul also said the same in Romans 9-11. John also affirms this identification in the Book of Revelation.

The very reason that Chrisitanity offers the most complex and nuanced vision of God is that it attempts to comport the difference between the savage Jehovah of the Hebrew Scriptures with the loving Father presented by Jesus. This is akin to attempting explanation of the retrograde motion of Mars in a geocentric universe. Can't be done. But it goes generate lots of complexity, and nuanced - however specious - reasoning in an attempt to explain the unexplainable.

In the end, truth cannot be concocted by cleverly arranging words into the proper sequence.
