Comment: Hey Uncle Clarence - way to hold a grudge!
Clarence Thomas has been a polarizing figure for nearly two decades. He says he's just doing his job.

Comment: Clarence Thomas is a credit to the court and all this nation aspires to be -- thank God he doesn't just follow the "political/racial thought dictatorship", as sojournor so aptly describes it. It is time for African Americans to accept the fact that many of the so-called leaders of the left, whether in politics or academia or even from the pulpit, have not always led individuals to a position of strength other than, too often, themselves. It is in the spirit of sojournor's comment that I hope all people, regardless of the color of their skin, will be given the opportunity to have independent thought and respected for their intellect and not demonized for having "incorrect thoughts", as Mr. Thomas has been by so many on the left, particularly racist liberals.
Comment: Clarence Thomas has been beaten up by the left so many times over solely because he is of African decent and not conforming to the view of the "Black Leaders" who the limousine liberals support. Heaven forbid Mr. Thomas actually have independent thought! It is about time that those on the left who pretend not to be racist admit that they villify Thomas more than other conservatives because of his race. If you think about it, that is, um, what do they call it again? Yes, racism. I know, most lefties, so called "Progressives" I discuss these issues with say, I am incapable of racism because I am a Progressive. That's bunk. Some of the most overt racism still comes out of the Democratic Party and its thought police, especially the African-American thought police. God bless Clarence Thomas for being a strong, independent human being. He is a credit to this nation and all it should aspire to be.
Comment: Justice Thomas may fancy himself anything he wishes - Republican, Libertarian. It matters not. Justice Thomas is no more than a fool, all-be-it one that sits on the highest Court in our land. While he is not alone in that regard, one would have hoped that the only African-American Justice on the Supreme Court would have had the wisdom to appreciate the calculated intent behind his nomination. But alas, Justice Thomas' backers knew him better than he knew himself. Believing that he is a member of their club, Justice Thomas is only too happy to do their bidding, and sadly, as if it were his own enlightened idea. If Justice Thomas were to look for one moment beyond himself, he might see that the only box he is in is one of his own construction. He might see that he has been used as a tool to deconstruct the path to civil rights and equality for African-Americans that was laid by honorable men and women that came before him. Instead, he is blinded a hubris that tells him that Brother Martin and others were wrong - that institutional racism in America demands no remedy. Poor Justice Thomas actually believes that throughout his life, his degrees and achievements would have been valued equally with his White counterparts were it not for Affirmative Action. Sadly, he lacks the grace and capacity to comprehend that the acceptance which he seeks is never readily offered nor equally given to minorities, and least of all to African-Americans. Were it not for the Civil Rights Movement and Affirmative Action, it is unlikeley that Justice Thomas would ever have enjoyed the opportunities and successes that he has. Yet, he will happily deny that opportunity to others. And so we are left to suffer his untold years on the bench as he builds his empty legacy. Be encouraged - this too, we shall overcome.
Comment: As the wife and mother of three African -American men, I cannot help but be concerned when I think back to the vicious treatment, the lies maligning the justice, a good and intellectually honest gentleman. What chance do my sons have, if they dare to think for themselves, and not in lockstep with a political/racial thought dictatorship? I suggest that my fellow reviewers actually read this book, and strive to be fair and open-minded as you truly listen to the justice's words; hear his heart. We do not have to agree with every part of another's world view in order to honor and respect them as a fellow human being. We are all in this together.
Comment: If Clarence Thomas was on Supreme court during the integration of schools or when the Supreme court affirmed that white and black could marry, he would have voted against the two cases! Today, he benefitted from the two cases. I hope that Clarence Thomas knows he really hated himself for being created black. Sorry, he needs to accept who he is before he can really get over his anger which are very obvious from his book and interviews!!!
Comment: Just think Clarence if there had not been affirmative action then you couldn't have used a Black woman (first wife) and then fallen in love and married a white woman named Virginai. You would have lived as the Mr. and Mrs. Darling in Virginia (see Supreme Court decision). the best thing for Clarence is to develop vitiligo and after living with white patches totally lose the pigment in his skin and become a white man instead of a wannabe. he is the second Bush atrocity -we all know that he and Barb should have slept the night "w" was made.
Comment: In college, Mr. Thomas faced the KKK. Now he faces guilty white liberals who think they know how black people should "act". Racism is alive and well, just look at the party with a form Grand-Dragon as its most respected Senator. Robert Byrd must be proud.
Comment: The current members of the Supreme Court have tarnished it so bad that in my lifetime, I will never hold the respect for it I once did. Stepping into the 2000 Presidential election and swaying into George W Bush's court is the most unforgiveable thing I've ever witnessed in government. In their arrogance, they took the will of the voters and threw it out the window in favor of right wingers. I hold the U.S. Supreme Court directly responsible for the the global disgrace the Bush administration has created, the loss of rights we the people held for centuries, and all the embarrassment of a Party running amok with unchecked power. I have no time to listen to Clarences gripes. He deserves his critics, and more of them !!

Comment: The present justices on the Supreme Court have made the name of the court a joke. There's nothing Supreme about it. Stepping in and determining the outcome of the 2000 Presidential election was unforgiveable and totally out of character for a court supposedly not wanting to interfere in State decisions.. Clarence Thomas was there. I hold him and all the judges that voted to make George W Bush President accountable for all the crap this country has had to endure. The lost of global respect. Running a war so poorly that a small group of radicals can hold us at bay. Taking away some basic rights that have been there since the formation of the court. What a bunch of arogant above the law types giving right wingers what they want and tarnishing the reputation of the court probably through and beyond my lifetime. I feel sorry for Clarence Thomas . . . . NOT!!!

Comment: CLARENCE THOMAS is a mentally disturbed, self hating, lying sexual deviant. It is disgusting that he is serving on the US Supreme Court. l
Comment: Ya, lying sexual deviants are reserved for the White House in the 1990s.
Comment: It is quite telling that, to a person, every comment that is in disagreement with JUSTICE Thomas is a vile, unsubstantiated by the facts, hateful, bloviating, rant.
MY GOD, people. Have you NO SHAME?
