I still don't get the pro Bush people. Oil is 86.00 dollars a barrel. Gasoline is 3.00 a gallon. The IRS announced over the weekend that the gap between the rich and the average worker is now as wide as it was in the 1920's. Homeownership is moving out of the reach of the average American. We are spending billions of dollars on a war that has no clear plan for resolution after almost 5 years not to mention the lies and misinformation that got us there. Our sons and daughters are dying in Iraq. Osama runs free. Millions of Americans don't have health insurance or are under insuranced. Our rights our violated daily with the patriot act. The USA has been accused of torture of prisoners. The home of the free and the land of the brave now uses fear as an excuse to change and reduce our freedoms. It seems that a democratic free nation full of patriot flag wavers would be more willing to stand up against the threat of terrorism and refuse to give up rights for so called security. The terrorist won that battle. America is oil dependent and little patriotic flags are stuck to the bumpers of trucks and SUV that average 12 miles to the gallon. That sure teaches those oil country terrorists. Our government is out of control and running in the wrong direction.

iamarose, you indeed are!!! Well said. We are becoming a blame country. Whether it is a home, company, county, state, country or a military, we need a singular person to blame. So blame Clintons-WH? That is Hillarious!! TV, Movies, video games, I never knew they went through the WH before they hit the roads. But here is a classic example where you can blame a singular person for much of the woes of the world. Many of his own honorable men quit because they had a conscience. But him??!! He had none what so ever. And that primate is called Bush. A change is essential, making a history is in the calling. A woman to lead the country.....when most other countries have conferred such a respect to a lady. Are we really that advanced a country?

I'm not a supporter of Hillary's campaign--in fact, I would love it if she wasn't elected as the democratic nominee--but I think the author of this book has done a ludicrous thing. When you take the worst aspects of a family dynamic and call it the whole thing, there's no way the family can shine. This is the thing that is wrong with journalism today. How many families would look good under a filter designed to leave out the good while magnifying the bad? None, I would wager.

  • Posted By: KDawg @ 10/16/2007 10:35:38 AM

But how could you ignore them Steven? Its in part a sign of the times, and in part the arrogance of how they present themselves.
The photo ops of them holding hands after the scandal should tell you that the author was right on target.

  • Posted By: Steven Hall @ 10/16/2007 10:33:38 AM

I'm not a Hillary supporter, but I've got to say that the author this article discusses ridiculously focuses on the least appealing aspects of the Clinton family dynamic and calls it the whole story. That is irresponsible journalism and is the reason I think newsmedia and even biographers are becoming less and less trustworthy as the years go by. What family could stand up to a filter selecting against the virtues and for the vices? Not many, I would wager.

I finally figured it out. Hillary is a Vulcan.

    • Posted By: imarose @ 10/16/2007 10:31:40 AM

Have you also figured it out that Bush is a reincarnation of Hitler??

Why han't anyone asked her what really happened to Vince Foster? Boy how soon we forget....never mind, to many dumb forgetfull Americans

    • Posted By: It's Jo @ 10/16/2007 10:00:28 AM

Great question-why HASN'T she been asked about Vince Foster, AND, many others who have been killed while the Arkansas Mafia did the 'dirty work' for the Clinton Duo? I'll tell you why: The Main Stream Media,
who generally are the Left Leaning Liberals, don't want to "besmerch" Hillary, in hopes of vaulting her into
the Presidency. SHE, has much more to answer for in her past, as well as Bill, but she is insulated by the Secret Service people who protect her(even though she treated them like PIGS-her quote by the way)
and thus, no reporter worth anything, can ask her questions. When she goes on Liberal Shows-Like the View, she is given time to emote her 'scripted b.s.', and tries to appear 'somewhere in the middle', when in fact-she still is Socialist, as was her loved Mentor, Saul Alinsky-the Radical/Socialist who taught her how to
"Destory your enemies, that stand in your path".....Geezzz, SHE really learned that lesson didn't she? Look
in on: Google Video: Obstruction of Justice-"The Mena Connection" IF, You want to know the REAL BILL
AND HILLARY. IT IS SCARY-JUST AS THE DEATH OF FOSTER, AND SO MANY MORE-WHO 'DARED NOT CROSS THE CLINTONS' Every American should be made aware of that site, and learn what these two phony, Power/Money Mongers are REALLY ABOUT.

I dont care what Hilary says, or how she tries to live in denial, a good marriage is based finally on trust. Bill Clinton violated that trust (many times), and you cant get that back. The unfortunate part is that because he was President, his violation of trust within his marriage, also violated the trust of this country. Men think its machismo and seem to gravitate to these actions. It portrays a real man they may think. But what it really does is breakdown the ability to have a trusting relationship with anyone forever.

Poor Hilary, she needs the Clinton name to win, but inside, She wishes She didnt.

Oh, Please. Anyone who has ever had to put up with these two at the Renaissance on Hilton Head SC every year knows what sort of 'marriage' this is, and what sort of people these are. One word - "Cover".

I guess these America haters don't respond to rational, intelleligent comments... I bet a "I Hate Hillary" would get a response... Small minds, big emotions = morons!

I think the time has come for the American women to accept a woman as their leaders. Even the so called backward Muslims women had voted fro women as their leaders in Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It is time for Hillary and it is time for the American women.

    • Posted By: HongKongPhooey @ 10/16/2007 1:53:16 AM

Oh! That's intelligent! Vote for her just because she's a woman. Now, that's using your noodle! About as pathetic a reason for voting for someone as, ohhhhh, say........voting for Bill Clinton because he's "handsome" or "sexy." I heard plenty of the exit polling of women in the '91 elections. These were VERY popular reasons. You, and others like you, do women as a whole a great disservice by being so shallow and ignorant. Try casting your vote for someone based on more that what???s between their legs, or isn???t. Sorry saps like you give credence to people like Ann Coulter who truly believe women???s suffrage has really screwed up our country. And, based on you statement, I???m beginning to see her point.

Here's a "for instance" question: What are her plans for the Iraq war? How will she handle it differently...specifically? Mrs. Bill Clinton shows little restraint in discussing what she WON'T do (as it compares to the Bush Admin. actions), but seems to have nothing what-so-ever (dashed for emphasis) to say about what she WILL do on those same issues. Do you even know what her core beliefs are? Most everyone in America, save Bill and MAYBE Chelsea, has no real clue what this "woman" really believes. Well...many (most) non-liberal, intelligent, discerning folks with a rudimentary knowledge of history, recognize her and Bill for what they really are and have always been. It's not brain surgery. You just need to dry your "precious wittle eyes," sniff some smelling salts, and try desperately not to be SO ignorant of history. These people are nothing new. Frankly, neither are you.

Here's another question: Would you cast your vote for a Condoleezza Rice... a Margaret Thatcher (if she were much younger and an American)... a Jean Kirkpatrick (who?)?

      I doubt it.

Note: if you have trouble recalling who Margaret Thatcher is or if you have no clue who Jean Kirkpatrick is (as I suspect), please feel free to avail yourself of the ample, though often inaccurate, resource that IS...Wikipedia (note the spelling). I don???t use it much (I prefer hard data), but it could serve in a pinch as a springboard for your future mental awakening (forgive me if I give you too much credit).

      ???Nuff said.

My punctuation didn't take it seems. Many apologies for the difficult read. I have to free up more permissions, me thinks.

What a pathetic piece of journalism this is. I am not inclined to vote for Hillary Clinton, but I would like to ask Mr. Darman if each of his relationships is perfectly choreographed. Relationships are difficult, and marriages are particularly. To decide why someone is still in a marriage through some black and white analysis is ridiculous. This is a pathetically superficial piece of writing that does not belong in the likes of Newsweek. Or perhaps it does. Have we really fallen this far?

    • Posted By: HongKongPhooey @ 10/16/2007 2:34:45 AM

Allow me please to humbly quote the ever so eloquent Mrs. Bill Clinton, who said, "Come on Bill, put your d*ck up! You can't f*ck her here!!" ~ Hillary to Gov. Clinton when she spots him talking to an attractive women at an Arkansas politcal rally ("Inside the White House" by Ronald Kessler, p. 243).

That about sums up the genuine nature of their marraige.

      'Nuff Said

      Cheers!

It appears necessary to remind you and other posters that this article is a BOOK REVIEW. If the topic and insight are not to your liking, don't buy the book. You don't have to criticize the reviewer--he only works with the book at hand.

Such a lot of gossip-mongering propaganda!! I saw the look on President Clinton's face when he called her 'my Senator', and when he was discussing her performance in a recent debate. Also I listened when he discussed his changes with therapy. He may have been emotionally flawed but was a good president and his wife stood behind him until he worked it out. A lot of republican politicians should be so lucky, but then they will never know because they usually ditch the wife for the new mistress, or they use her as a prop for a press conference while they repeat 'I am not gay".

Wow, talk about dragging the gutter to find any negative snippet to say about the Clintons... this article is not only misogynistics (look it up) but rather Ann Coulterish (need I say more)... face it Jonathan, the Clinton years were the best this nation has had in a long time, economically, socially and world opinionp-wise. Imagine a WOMAN with the same ambishions as a MAN... must scare you senseless. Personally, I'd take Chelsea over the current occupant in the While House... at least the Clinton's were voted in by a majority of the population for 8 years... something that can't be said for Bush....

Two of the most opportunistic, narcissistic, sociopaths alive today. I really hope this ever calculating "robot" never makes it to the White House???
