I don't think anybody does feel their age. The person we talk to inside is ageless, really. Let's just say I'm a happy camper.

How do you feel about people describing your work as "dark," "weird" and "avant-garde"?

There are all kinds of things going on in the world. Artists reflect that world in their work, and a story needs conflict and the human struggle and all these things to be interesting. I get ideas, I fall in love with some of them, and those that I fall in love with, I go. I love ideas. I love the processes of filmmaking.

Your daughter, Jennifer, 36, was a production assistant on "Blue Velvet" and then wrote and directed the 1993 movie "Boxing Helena." Do you plan to work with her again--or with your sons [Austin, 22, and Riley, 13]?

Jennifer has just written two new scripts, and I might be executive producer on one of those. My son Austin is doing a documentary on Terry Malick's film, "The New World," the making of, and doing a really great job on that. My son Riley is a killer guitar player. They're all meditating.

Do you have any plans to retire?

Comment: Ah, YES! The GREAT FEAR of cultism!! Similar to every radical preacher telling us what to believe, how to believe it, and why we should be very AFRAID to deviate from THEIR thinking without giving them money, right? Let's see, who do we blame? We could blame Martin Luther, Pastor HAGEE, Fathe Flager, Jerimiah Wright, G.W. Bush, Ron Parsley, Mohammed, Jesus Christ --- YES HE was a RADICAL for His time also!! Read up on it.

But to condemne something that has been around 4 times longer than Christianity, that has worked for millions of people in various forms, and cultures, to deny theright of children to be at peace with themselves and confront the STRESS of growing up and learning at the same time---this is ROVIAN, Republican, and fascvist thinking.

Understand this: TM is not a cult, any more than is Christianity. It works, this is an established fact; ask any hypnotherapist. It makes every one aware of their weak points as well as their strong points (therefore able to create remedies). It also will help children take care of their parents in GRATITUDE, when parents grow too old to help themselves.

Now, if you will kindly excuse me, I have some GI's to take care of -- they need something to believe in, since their govermnent abandonded them....

    Respectfully,

Isn't it ironic: Xerox is hoping it can profit by teaching companies how to reduce their printing.
