Finally since gay people are an abomination, I guess the Catholic Church is going to be busy defrocking their priests.

I'm a Christian and I see no problem with this. Jesus did teach about forgiveness and grace. I think it's great that Rowling is sharing more about the characters. I just wish she had included some of these details in the actual book.

I think she is brilliant. How many other authors can say that were able to get not only millions of kids to read her books, but that she was able to convince kids, and adults who never pick up a book to read 300, 400, or even 600 pages.

As for the religious right and the gay question, wasn???t it those who were not allowed in the temples, the so called unclean that Jesus spoke too? Wasn???t his message to except each other as children of god and not exploit our difference for fortune or political fame?

It's *just* a book ! Not the Return of the Anti-Christ. If you read all the books, then you enjoyed the story. And that's all it is, a story. It's sad to see such a strong reaction to a fictional character- what if your child turned out to be gay, would you cast stones at them ?

Christian, Muslim, and Republican conservatives are running out of places they can hide from the real world: so many of their own leaders are gay, and so is Dumbledore. It's time they stop lying to themselves and to their children about homosexuality, and so many other things.

Dumbledore is NOT, I repeat NOT real. Are you all a bunch of idiots. Except not for Rowling saying he was gay there is not any other proof or situation or comentary in the books to support such a thought. which is why everyone at the signing was surprised. Grow up, the books are great fiction.

Wow, I thought Jesus taught about Love and Forgiveness and Judge not yet ye be judged? So the comments about Mr. Conservative Born-Again Christian are par for the course, they are so hypocritical of what they are "supposed" to live by. If you liked the books and the character, how can you not like them once you find out he was gay? That makes no sense? It just shows that you as a Christian have Hate in your heart and have no clue what Jesus talked about when he talked about love. JKR does not need anymore more money? She is providing the fans more details into the characters that we all came to know and love.

Oh, great. This should really set the Conservative Christian fundies off (again).

Just more proof that this woman is brilliant, she made a measly gazillion dollars over a couple of weeks when the last book was released, but then all the hype died down. How do you rev up some more attention and sell a few more books? Make a comment so surprising that more people go runnning to the bookstores. Relax all you puritans out there, it's not like these books are going to be the guide to our social concious for the next 20 years, all of your kids aren't going to become gay wizards next week

I thought there was something up with Dumbledore and Gellert when I read The Deathly Hallows! Glad to have my impression confirmed. Dumbledore's orientation makes no difference to me, but I'm sad that this will give certain people yet another reason to try to take the books out of libraries and bookstores. Wonder how long it will be before Wal-mart removes the books from their stores? It's unfortunate that some people will use this as an excuse to prevent their children from reading; after all, there is nothing specific within the books themselves. But for anyone, of any persuasion posting hateful comments, please do not forget the basic message of the books: they are about the power of love, and how love can conquer hate. So please don't tarnish that message by posting nasty comments either for or against.

I can see it now ... Republicans in the U.S. Congress will move to pass the Defense of Literary Marriage Act forbidding fictional characters in books from entering into same-sex unions.

Dumbledore is exactly the same as he was yesterday...just as wise, just as devoted to fighting Voldemort and protecting his students...he was attracted to men. That's all that's different.

I can't believe she even felt the need to share this information! So much for my kids reading these books!

  • Posted By: kiwi90210 @ 10/20/2007 7:48:23 AM

That is pathetic. Why ruin a totally good book by bringing that garbage into it?????
