I think this story must have been printed just to tick people off today. I don't know why else it has any value to anyone, expect maybe the Elliots want news coverage of their home so they can sell it. Get it!

This tickles my funny bone. There is absolutely no reason to be building these huge monstrosities and McMansions. I hope the values of these houses continues to fall. Wake up to reality and the average American citizen.
This person is so consumed with $$$ that even if he had a castle and all the riches in the world. He would not be able to relax and enjoy it.
It's just another downturn in the housing cycle. Wait another 5-10 years and housing prices will be at new highs.
Don't be spoiled by the appreciation craze over the past few years. You may not see the same market performance in the short term, but over the long run, I would be very confident about your homes strong appreciation. Remember, you built your dream home. Just enjoy it, guilt free! Create your family memories and over the years before you know it you will have the equity you dream about.
Ya know with all the people who struggle to survive on very little in this country I have a very hard time having any sympathy for anyone who can sink $100k into their (HUGE overpriced, lavish, greedy) house let alone $750k. Next time you have 3/4 million dollars to blow....try helping others....... That is why this over indulgent, greedy county is going right to hell.
Floridalady, I don't know what county you live in, but I'm with y ou 1000%. It's all
over this great country of ours.
Any investment, be it stocks, precious metals, or real estate, will have its ups and downs.......it's all a matter of timing. Think of it this way, you're not losing anything if you don't sell it at the wrong time.
I do believe that our homes are an investment. For most of us, it is the largest investment we will ever make. However, our college education or that of our children is running a close second. Yes....I also believe that college eduction is an investment. It is an investment for the future, but then most investments.are.
If you were looking for an immediate capital gain, then building your home when you did may have been poor timing on your part. However, if you're in no hurry, your home is one of the best investments a person can make.

Personally, I'm pretty sick and tired of the media and everyone else for that matter, talking "gloom and doom". I really hate even listening to the news anymore. I have to agree with most of the comments already posted here. What are you so upset about?! You obviously have a beautiful home to live in, unlike most people in the U.S. right now. Think of all of the hurricane Katrina victims who still have nothing! My husband and I built our own "dream" home a few years ago and planned on living in it. Not obsessing about all of the monetary value of this and that. Enjoy what you've got, be happy and appreciate the here and now.
This is what happens when someone thinks more of money, than enjoying life and a humble abode. It's okay to consider investment, but when you drop $750,000 (even if you are very wealthy), sounds to me that doesn't go in accordance with "being the best steward you can for God". If anything, you live with the least you can or more modestly. I wouldn't want to be married to this guy, imo, He sounds like a real "pill". LOL

If they don't plan on moving anytime soon I don't see the problem. The market will change and the prices will rise again. You wait it out . It is just like playing the stock market. You don't sale when prices are low.

This story is just another s day in America. Look at the thousands of homes being foreclosed on monthly that then are auctioned for half of the appraised value. If you really want to make money on the housing market you are going to have to buy the auctioned homes and let them work for you till the market climbs again. If not do like me and work your @$$ off to just make ends meet.
So true. I think in this case you have a prime example of "POOR LITTLE RICH MAN".
As a woman as well as a builder of residential homes and real estate broker, I too am concerned with the downward trend in the housing market. I do feel however that people should not overbuild with the expectation of high returns in such a short time. Your "dream home" is the home you plan to build and stay in for many years - to constantly worry about the "investment" seems to take away from the pleasure of having built the home you so greatly desire. I for one am living in my "investment home" and have been for 5.5 years - in this amount of time (even with the downward trend) I am lookin at a good return. When next I build for myself, it will be MY "dream home" and that is where I will stay knowing it has everything I desire in a home.
How nice for them. They built a $750,000 "dream house" Give me a break. Here in Seattle $750,000 gets you a 100 year old "vintage charmer" that still needs an additonal $100,000 in repairs. Good Grief, it's hard to feel sorry for them.
