Regardless of what the Catholic Church believes (it's been wrong before), being Gay and being a pedophile is not the same thing. Using this monstrosity (pedophlia and sexual abuse) as an excuse to go after Gay priests is unnacceptable, and nothing more then a continuation of the Inquisition.

Some time during the middle ages the Catholic church decided to do away with priests marrying because the wifes were costing the church too much money. This has limited the amount of men who are willing to to join the priest hood. Unfortunately, they have been attracting men who are willing to live without a wife and not always in a celibate manner either. It's time to bring back the wifes! and prenups for that matter...

A lot of you hav e been quick to say some nasty things about the church. Let us not forget all the amazing work done every day by Catholic Charities to help those in need. The Catholic religion is a beautiful religion that is based on love and forgiveness. I believe in time it will correct itself.

You should see the crap the Catholics do in Winona MN. They used a shady 'foundation' to corrupt the entire city and cnty govt. Then they started arresting people who tried to submit 'liberal' programs to the "public access" TV channel. Many laws broken. Velma Korbel of the Minnesota Human Rights Department says it is OK for them to give preferential treatment to local churches.

There are some Roman Catholic priests who are married with children.

    • Posted By: SeattleSheila @ 10/18/2007 2:04:51 PM

Yes, there are. They are mostly those who converted from another Catholic rite or who converted from The Church of England (Episcopalian) after they were already ordained and married. The Roman Catholic Church recognizes the validity of the ordination of those priests since there is plainly "apostolic succession" from St. Peter. As some will recall, the Church of England's original priests/bishops were Catholics at the time of Henry VIII's decision to create the C of E so the line of ordination has not been broken.

I was raised Catholic and have always questioned why priests cannot marry - it should be their choice whether to marry - not deemed by the church. My faith in the Catholic church has changed significantly with how they handled the child molestation and pedofiles within the church. Why is the church protecting these priests? If you were a pedofile at a regular company and got caught, you'd go to jail - where is the jail that priests go to for this same offense? What a shocker, not really, the Catholic church as a subculture for gay men. Does anyone wonder why women are not becoming nuns? It is time for the church to change their stance on celibacy and get out of the dark ages - times have changed. I strongly doubt that God or Jesus is actually smiling down on the Catholic church for the manner in which they are handling these issues.

Some time during the middle ages the Catholic church decided to do away with priests marrying because of the financial burden the wifes were placing on the church. It's time to do bring back the wifes! This will certainly open up the possibilites for a much broader base of men to be priests. Many of you have been quick to say nasty things--let us not forget the amazing things Catholic Charities does to help those in need. Enough already ; The press and public have been looking for any way possible to keep this cloud of darkness over the Roman Catholic Church. Don't get me wrong any one clergy or not who is a petafile should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. However please let us not forget that for every one lets call them bad priests there are thousands that are good holy men who live up to the highest standards. Lets compliment them on their oiutstanding work in a time when materialism and secularism are on the rise., yet they stand up for what is good and decesent.

This is one more "bricks in the wall" of the excessive poor leadership within the Church. The Vatican so far has "slobbered a bib full" with their dealings of Gay priests and the young boys they prey on. The Pope needs to study the "West Point Guide for Leadership" and learn to do the "hard right"...not just releve these offending priests...but go after them with the vengence they deserve....it will be this poor leadership that will be the downfall of modern christianity...everyday I meet more members of the Church who have left for this very reason....poor leadership!

This is not a case of one religion over the other. This is a case of religion vs. itself. When will the blind see? Probably never. It will be forever as long as people live in fear of some boogie man that they think controls all of the events on Earth and all of the events in the entire Universe (parallel Universes included). All bow down to the Boogie Man.

Personal Opinion: If someone goes to church because they are afraid of "some boogie man" who is going to punish them if they don't, they are going for the wrong reason. That isn't Faith. That's coercion. Not my kind of God at all.

"Others have long regarded Rome as a haven for gay priests, sent to the Vatican because they would not survive in a parish. "Rome's famous for it," said one parish priest in Italy who asked not to be named. "They've got to go somewhere, and so are given something innocuous to do in Rome." For some, that perception was underscored last year, when a senior ranking monsignor was involved in a high-speed police chase after being pulled over in a Rome district known for male prostitution." This is just sick......what a bunch of hypocrits!

So your growing up in a Catholic family and when you hit puberty these strange feelings of attraction to the same sex hit you... but you've been told your whole life Homosexuality is a terrible sin, how could this be? How could it happen to me? You supress these feelings, hide them, then when you are nearing your 20's deciding on a vocation, you choose the priesthood,, "this will cure me of my abominal sins you think to yourself..." The Catholic church has yet to come to grips with this reality, a HUGE number of their priests (and nuns) are homosexual, a MUCH LARGER proportion than in the general population. I know literally dozens of closeted priests who all tell the exact story I described here. Joining the priesthood does nothing to "cure" one from homosexuality, it does however insure that a very large majority of priests and nums are gay.

Exactly! Every time I hear one of these stories I just want to yell: "It's the repression, stupid!" There are certainly are a few (very few) super-spiritual people who are able to subsume their sexual nature to try to live on a higher spiritual plane. But to expect everyone who serves a religious institution to live a celibate life? Who exactly do you think you are going to attract to an institution like that? Often people with "issues." Denial of that, and the mind set that goes along with it, is one of the reasons I left the church. It still makes me sad though.

I truly believe that is a sin. For the Priest to say that he was undercover is just a cover up. I use to believe that I wanted my son to be an alter boy and other things related to the church but because of everything that is going on I have totally changed my views on that. I seen a special on HBO about a priest who was abusing boys for years and the one young boy who is now an adult with children felt he needed to make this documentry to help heal himself and make others aware of the situation and it broke my heart and i have not thought the same about the catholic church and religion ever since.

This Priest told these boys that he is like God and it was ok. It is never ok for an adult to sexually hurt a young child.

    This priest should be prosecuted.
