    I am a Catholic, but I used to be Protestant. My own youth minister made advances on me and my sister. No one spoke about it. The church he came from was not allowed to tell our church he had made the same advances on youth there. And as far as I know, our church was not supposed to tell the next place. So he could get a "fresh start" or some b.s. There is a difference between forgiveness and complete lack of responsibility and consequences.

      I too am a catholic. A priest well known to me made one nun pregnant and was transferred to another diocese! He is not just one exception.

    I think this is nothing more than a witch hunt and they are only attacking the catholic church. why dont we
    hear about the gay babtists priests who molest little boys and girls and any other religeon for that matter.
    only because the Catholic church is one of the oldest and largest christian community in the world. Others
    are always out to discredit them to get more people to go thier way. when really they are just a bunch of hypocrits

      I really think it's the fascination with the idea of the possibility of a celibate life that leads to a malicious satisfaction when someone fails. (That and a general misunderstanding of the Catholic theology behind it.) Priests make their celibacy a matter of public record, so when one fails, people tend to say, "Ah hah! I told you so. It's impossible and they are idiots to suggest that it is." That said, the child molesters need to be locked up...permanently.

    It is time for the members of the Catholic Church to take back their church from the crooked administration that currently runs it. Get rid of the devices that plague it, such as celibacy for priests, and stop the priesthood from being a haven for delusional individuals trying to deal with their own issues.

    Organized religion is no different than big business and governments. As long as man is in charge and money and power are available there will be a problem. Man cannot be trusted to do the right thing period. It is a shame that people can be so gullible to continue to support such hypocrisy. Where is God in all of this. Surely God wouldnt allow his one true religion to operate in this fashion. My understanding of God is that he doesnt require you to attend church to be a follower. "Church" can be anywhere you choose to pray. I dont need to give 10% of my money to anyone to show my love for God. I don't need to make a showing on Sunday to prove my love for God. I dont need to sit in a closet and "confess" my sins to another man. I certianly dont need to support any religion involved in the killing of anyone and the Catholic religion is drenched in innocent bloodshed.

    a. let them get married, a religion that doesn't evolve with the times will cease to exist. b. is this really a shock considering the number of settlements the church has paid out the boys who were molested? They aren't molesting little girls.

      That is an oxymoronic comment to make. If they aren't molesting little girls, why would these priests want to get married? The problem is that you have these pedophiles who find the priesthood a very rich and easy hunting ground. They aren't interested in marriage., just in power.

        You have hit the nail on the head. Under the cover of 'poverty, chastity and obedience' most priests and nuns are having the best of both the worlds: security and a high standard of life, easy pickings of sex(boys, widows and other religious of both sexes. In tthe process they become extremely self centred, egotistic, intolerant and insensitive. They load the faithful with unbearable burdens('no attempt to control birth' has now thankfully become 'no artficial methods'; 'no divorce' .If they were married they would have changed their stance on both questions! And you should see the lifestyle of the bishops and cardinals! They are called 'Prince of the Church': boy, do they live up to it, including red light on their vehicles! Surely the Lord will have to say, 'I ken thee not'
        The real tragedy of it all is that those priests and nuns who really practise poverty, chastity and obedience are hardly noticed, except some of them after their death so that the church can have one more saint!
        High time this temple was cleansed.

    You cannot have it both ways. If you believe in the creation then you believe what the bible says and in it God condemns homosexuality. If you believe in evolution then the gay gene should have been extinct eons ago by natural selection since homosexuals cannot reproduce. It's a choice.

      Why are you all fighting the inevitable? Let people be who they are. It is none of your business what they do in their own bedroom as consenting adults. Don't you have more to do than judge another person's sexuality? Mind your own business for Gods sake. So much abuse and deviance can be avoided by getting your nose out of everyone's business, particularly with regard to their sexuality. Would you like it if someone asked you what you do in the bedroom? This is all so ridiculous, but I can see this silly argument lasting for eons thanks to the die-hard Bible thumpers.

          A learned conditioned response? I wonder who I learned it from. When I was growing the gay people were hidden and I'm still gay. When I was 12 or 13 when the other boys were noticing the little girls I began noticing the other little boys. My attraction to the same sex is as natural to me as your attraction to the opposite sex is to you. Did you choose it? No, it just is. It's the same for me, I didn;t choose anything, it just is.

        It is not the point of him making passes or having sex with consenting adults, He made a pass at a minor. There's a difference in being gay/*** and being a pedifile. If you have children would you want them to talk to priest, ministers any person of the cloth and have them try to make a move on your child. Think about that for a second.

      To: Gentile. I am Catholic, too. Born, bred and raised by an Irish Roman Catholic mother. I was being sarcastic. If you haven't noticed how it is considered racist to insult Muslims, Wiccans, Hindus, etc., but it's perfectly accepatble by everyone to run down Christians and Jews, and considered VERY acceptable by Protestants to run down Catholics, I have. I have had to teach my children that yes, it is hard to be a Christian in this world, and it is even harder to be a Catholic Christian. When even my mother-in-law (a baptist ) tells me that I am going to Hell because I worship Mary, and not Jesus, because she doesn't know about MY faith, it makes it hard to be less than sarcastic about the beliefs of those "oh so much more enlightened" liberal idiots who make it acceptable to put us down.

    I was born into and raised in the pre-Vatican I Catholic church which was the beginning of the down fall of this once mighty church. The bleeding heart liberals of this churchespecially here in America along with the devil is trying hard to destroy the institution that Jesus created with Peter over 2000 years ago. After Vatican I where the heretics of this church moved us without any kind of discussionfrom the faithful toward the everyday life of this sinful world this church has been on the slippery slope of the abyss toward destruction. Although I hoped that John Paull II would have moved us back he didn't and I felt maybe his successor might but the evil that has permeated this once Holy church is now to strong to wrestle it away from it inevetable downfall. Those of us that believe in the real Roman Catholic Church must move to take it back from the Devil and his members that have control of the church today. And only then will it become the Church that Peter and Jesus created. If this does not happen and soon this world is doomed and all that live here. The secular world has taken this once mighty church and has brought it into the evils of the every day world instead of the church being a beacon of safetyand redemption it has become a haven of corruption and as Cardinal Ratzinger said "FILTH" within. Where has the church I grew up in gone, where are the true believers I grew up with gone? May God have mercy on all of us especially those of us that have allowed this to happen to 'OUR" Church. Maybe it is time for Jesus to come back and runn the "filth" from His Church like he did in Jeruselum those many years ago.

    Why is anyone surprised by this? Catholic Priests have been fornicating each other and little boys since the creation of the church 2,000 years ago. This is not a unique situation, it's common practice throughout the ages.
