With the current composition of the US Supreme Court, it is just a matter of time until abortion is so regulated and unavailable that voters who care about the issue, primarily young fertile women, will have to begin the struggle state by state to ensure that they have access to this choice. I am part of the generation that fought for and supported the legalization of abortion. I actually remember when young women went to back alleys for this procedure, found themselves rendered sterile from infection, or used coat hangers and knitting needles on desperate friends. I have tried for years to convince my younger women friends and relatives that they should be working harder to protect their options. When the tougher regulations begin to actually impact their lives, I think we will see a resurgence of activism on this issue.
