Lieberman’s Limbo

Neither side fully trusts the 'Independent' senator as he straddles an awkward divide between his former party and his Republican friends.

Eleanor, I'm surprised at you. You should know better than making this statement: "Lieberman himself is scorned by Democrats for adding the 'Independent' label to his Democratic Party registration."

As a CT Democrat, I can tell you Lieberman was scorned by Democrats BEFORE he added "independent" to his party label. That's why Lieberman *lost* the Democratic primary to Ned Lamont! Now, Joe is scorned even more for "adding" the label "Democrat" to his party registration. We Democrats in Connecticut told Joe we don't want him anymore. He's like that annoying guy at the party who ... just ... won't ... ever ... leave.

Hopefully in 2009 Democrats will have a larger majority in the Senate, Russ Feingold will be Senate Majority Leader, and Joe will be denied the committee chairmanships he desires.

I never realized ole Joe was such a reactionary! He is obviously not doing a good job of representing those in his state, and I for one can't wait to be rid of him in the Senate. Like most Republicans he is a thorn in the hide of progress!

The former Teheran mayor who was the mastermind of the American Embassy compound takeover of Embassy career diplomats in 1979 for 444 days and was rewarded with the presidency of Iran has called the Holocaust of Nazi extermination of six million Jews in Aushwitz and Triblinka a myth. Perhaps, he might create a holocaust of his own once Iran has acquired the nuclear bomb. From RoyNunoo@yahoo.com

Liberals and conservatives alike have good reason to distrust old Joe. As a professional politician and having demonstrated a willingness to abandon his party affiliation simply to avoid the unemployment line only shows what a sham and political opportunist he truly is. Joe deserves the support and allegiance of no one, for his allegiance is to no one. Joe deserves the castigation and scorn of his former colleagues and distrust from his new ones. Joe is like the cheating husband who so disparity wants renewed trust and forgiveness but having demonstrated a keenness to deceive, he deserves neither.

He has proven himself singularly untrustworthy and intersted in power and influence over against the public good. Getting kissed by Bush should have shamed him deeply. War with Iran would be insane and Joe has n ot gotten that. It is more interesting to him to suck up to his Christian Zionist friends than to do what is right, which is to stop the insane movement toward a hot war in the Middle East.

Lieberman supports the Iraq war because of his concern that our departure would leave Israel open to an attack from Iran. Should the Decider attack Iran, Lieverman will throw his support to Bush.

Lieberman supports the Iraq war because he believes that gettin out would place Israel in even greater peril from Iran. Look for him to throw his support to Bush if the Decider completely loses it and attacks Iran. Deja vu, anyone?

I will try again. Lieberman is a weasel who doesn't deserve a bit of attention from anyone. While I appreciate his voting with the Democrats 90% of the time, the 10% are matters that really matter--the Iraq War, the administration's run to war with Iran, and global warming. Who needs him. I hope that he loses his committee chairmanship in 2009 and becomes as relevant as a gnat on an elephant's butt. He has been a pain to the Democrats for quite a few years, and it is time to ignore him and his hawkish beliefs.

Lieberman is a weasel. While I appreciate his voting with Democrats 90% of the time, he votes against the party on most of the matters that concern the majority of the voters today., as the Iraq War, the perceived run to war with Iran, and global warming. I sure hope that Democrats win big in 2008 and this little pest is squeezed out, and that he loses his committee chairmanship. He deserves absolutely nothing.

If Giuliani gets the Republican nomination, look for him to flirt with Lieberman as his VP pick. Giuliani is betting that he holds on to the traditional red states no matter who he chooses and is looking to contest Hillary in Pa. NJ. Conn. Fl and Ohio. Lieberman makes him look both bipartisan and compeitive in those states.

Lieberman is only caucusing with the Democrats because he saw Democrats pick up seats in the 2006 elections and knew they would pick up more seats in 2008 due to the continuing involvement in the war. He is pivotal now only to have Democrats be the commitee chairs. In 2009, he will be irrelevant. He should give strong consideration to retirement in 2012. The Democrats will really go after him in that election.
Running as an Independent was a mistake after he lost the primsry election to Ned Lemont.
There are plenty of Connecticut Democrats who support Isreal, but favor the US getting out of Iraq, and Joe Lieberman will have to run against one who will have strong financial backing from the Democratic party.
