What kills me about this story, is how Democrats in our Congress came out and publicy declared these marines to be killers, without any of the facts. We have one political party, aided by the media, doing everything in their power to secure defeat. Never any of the good we are doing in Iraq, never any of the success, only the negatives they can find. And if they can't find negatives, they make them up. We can't even call terrorist, terrorist anymore. We had to invent a new name for them to make them seem nicer, so we call them insurgents instead of terrorist. Democrats and our Media take the terrorists at their word, believing and promoting everything they say, while calling our troops serving murders and our commander in chief a liar. Democrats appear to be more concerned with the terrorist we are holding in Cuba than the welfare of our troops, and the media willingly carries forth their message without hesitation or investigating the facts.

I am convienced that this entire thing would have been over with years ago, except for the Democrats and our own media. The New York Times publishes classified information that has repeatedly aided our enemies and increased the risk to our troops.

I can't understand what the hell is going on!! Our county was attacked, over 3000 innocent civilians, women and children, killed......and half of the nation wants to pretend it never happened. There are radical islamist extremeist that have declared war on us, and so many people want to pretend it doesn't mean anything. All in the pursuit of political power, without reguard to the effect it has on our troops that are in harms way. Democrats continue their mantra that the war is about oil, without discussing the FACT that all the oil in Iraq is still going to the same places it was before, Russia, China, Germany, and France.

There is a real chance to spread Democracy to a region of the world that has never known anything but murderious dictators......and some how Democrats and our media believe there is something wrong with that.

Is the hatred they seem to have towards George Bush more important than Freedom and Democracy? Is the pursuit of political power worth it, when it means getting more of our troops killed? This whole things just blows my mind! I believe it's time to start arresting some of these war critics that continue to spread lies and propaganda for our enemy and charing them with TREASON.....because that's what it is!

This kind of stuff really never ceases to amaze me. People read things in the newspaper, or watch things on the news and think that atrocities such as haditha or abu graib are what this war really boils down to. What you dont see is schools and hospitals we have built and rebuilt time and again, because they have been continuously destroyed by the insurgents. What you don't see is the food supply lines and water distribution lines that we provide because insurgents have destroyed means of water purification or livestock. You get on here and complain and "oh how America is fallen." Why don't you do something contructive with your time. If you don't agree with the war, why don't you stop b****ing about the problem, put on a uniform and be a part of the solution. Regardless of your personel feelings we still have to be here, we still have to be 7000 miles from our families, our friends, the culture WE know and love, and all the majority of you people can do is point out what you think is a mistake, even though it is probably justified, but Al Jazeera or a stateside news station decides to take the term "poetic license" to the extreme. I don't know if you people have noticed, but this isn't about leftists or right wing war mongering, it's about trying to do the right thing, regardless of past mistakes. So yeah make your little b.s comments, but in the morning, when I wake up, it will still be 130 degrees, I will still have to wear protective armor where ever I go, but I won't complain, because I KNOW I am part of the solution.

Getoffme: The "majority" is with you and always will be. I consider to the war to be a political misstep, but the troops on the ground have done an excellent job considering the challenges. Keep your head high and know that the "majority" still support you.

I am incredulous that with the number of people these marines killed ??? and some of them obviously in cold blood ??? the nation is nonplussed. What a sadistic state of government, the military and all the other Archie Bunkers collaborators. The US would never allow such a double standard against its citizens. Kill that many Americans without someone swinging from a rope in accountability, and the US will justify dropping a Nuke on you. Get a grip America, most of the Twin Tower 3000 dead weren???t even American ??? they were Brits. The US has spilt so much blood in ???revenge??? (no other word describes it) for 911 that the USA is no a moral or ethical compass for anyone, including it???s own citizens.

24 dead civilians, including children and as yet not one responsible American? Saying you should be ashamed doesn???t even begin to describe it???. as a nation you have no conscience!

You know what kills me about all this? You people are all on here talking about atrocities that may or may not have actually been war crimes, but you fail to realize that when you get on this blog, or any variation there of, and b**** and moan about the state of America and it's people, you're really just adding to the problem. You say you're so ashamed of us because of Haditha, but what you don't see in the press is the schools that we've built, the water and electrical lines we have replaced time and again because insurgents continue to detroy them. You don't see the fact that the vast majority of civilian deaths in Iraq are NOT due to "atrocities such as this", but to insurgent activities or Sunni Shiite infighting. So yeah, make your little complaints and derrogatory comments. But how aboout for once, instead of being a part of the problem, you put on a uniform and be a part of the solution. And even if you can't do that, stop trying to bring us troops down. We still have to be over here, doing what we can to make Iraq a better place, away from our families and friends, whether you like it or not. Get over your haughty little know-it-all attitudes and do something contstructive with your time. Even if you disagree with the war, we are still brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, mothers and fathers over here.

In most wars in the past armies and battle lines were fairly well defined. In an urban guerrilla type war the enemy may be anywhere, battle lines are where the fighting is, the battlefield is extremely fluid and dynamic. In no way do I condone the execution of innocent civilians but in the battlefields of Iraq determining who and where the enemy is is very difficult. It's easy to make a determination from a rocking chair, the real battle field is a lot different.

"America is the greatest country in the world . . .", as one commentor suggests, isn't even close to reality. It was once true. This war is illegal and pathetic, and has made america the laughing stock of most other countries. What even more laughable is how suckered into believing everything the gov't says as truth the american public is. Clearly not the greatest country in the world. The American people have a choice to make: either you force the gov't to re-establish itself as a great country, or become cattle to your gov't. After all, America is a fair democratic country . . . . or is it? Bush wants close to another half trillion dollars to continue killing and stealing resources . . . . I wonder how many hungry americans that would feed? How many uneducated people that would educate? How many still displaced katrina victims that would help get back on their feet that are still screwed because of government neglect? What if you just split this money among the american public? $1400 for each American, after all, its your money the government is using to continue killing people and take their land. I wonder how many civilians have been murdered on your dollar?
The greatest country? Stop being deluded.

    Thank goodness for News Week.

News Week is a sack of ***. These people died because of MUSLIM COWARDS and the MUSLIM RELIGION. When diplomacy fails it is our Marines' job to take lives and ask questions later to secure the zone. Get over it, war is hell and NEWSWEEK and MURTHA are typical leftwing traitors dragging this country down. The USMC is NOT a police force. This is a typical ploy by the enemy and our media to take accusations from the enemy and use them against our forces in the media. Newsweek would have been put down like a sick animal for this trash 60 years ago.

Murtha and the sicko leftwing press are prosecuting our brave men. TRAITORS!

Which is worst, U.S. Marines killing five unarmed men because they were enraged; or U.S. Marines killing
five unarmed men because they were totally convinced they were doing the right thing. And, yes, I did serve
in Vietnam . Blaming this on a combat situation doesn"t do justice to the men and women serving in Iraq,
who at their own risk ,don't kill unarmed civilians.

    fk4711,

Be ashamed to be an American (if you really are) if you want. Not me. We make mistakes as all people do, but it is still the greatest country in the history of the world. Your shame should be for judging Haditha as a massacre and mass execution..............I'll wager you weren't there. I'll also wager you have never faced enemy fire or been in the vicinity of an IED or watched a buddy blown apart before your eyes. Judge not , lest ye be judged.

  • Posted By: WesTex @ 10/24/2007 11:13:28 AM

    Bill,

I'm sorry, but the Iraqis and their allies (Iranians, Syrians, etc) already have all the motivation they need to kill Americans...........we are the Infidels. I would like one of the bleeding hearts (Murtha and crew) to explain to me and our troops just how it is, exactly, that you identify a good guy from a bad guy in a combat situation where everyone looks alike. I don't condone the killing of innocents, but no one has yet to help me understand how to identify the Innocents. This is a war like no other and there will be more incidents that defy explanation. However, I will not let an irresponsible media convince me to second guess men and women whose very lives depend on what they do next when attacked.

Wars are always messy and true war crimes should be prosecuted. But it seems like the News Media and Congressman Murtha tried this one before the facts were known, and they have hendered prosecution as well as the defense.. It seems like the Marines are doing a careful job of investgating. The press and congressman Murtha need to let justice including military justice go through the process before they judge. Thanks to the sensationalism we may never know the true facts.

I am amazed at how the pres can call a person an insurgant, when they are fighting to expell an invading army. If someone did to us what we did to them, everyone but the chickens would be insurgants. The "heros" of Haditha didn't kill just 20 some Iraqis, they also probably killed some US troops and caused several amputations because all of those people had relatives and friends and all of them now have a real strong reason to kill some troops. Anyone who thinks Vietnam was "lost" because we didn't let the troops kill with complete immunity was either a draft dodger or is too young to have served.

American cannot understand why people in the wole hate them. As Bush has said (incorrectly) that "they hate us because of our freedom." No, they do not hate US for its freedom. They respect and love freedom. They hate us because of atrocity like Heditha proves that American think non-American lives does not worth as much as their. We mourn, collectively as a nation, over our lost soldiers and our hears go to their families. But when it comes to the Iraqies, we think the death of 24 civilians, including innocent women and children who were dragged out from their home and shot execution style are just too bad. Where is the outrage of the American people? Where can the families of the Heditha victims go to get their justice? Certainly not our military court system, which like the larger US society, only care about protecting their own. Thus lies the fundamental difficulty US has with Iraquis people. The Iraqis know that US does not respect them or care about their lives or interest. For them, it is like a bunch of bumbling, uninvitated loafers suddenly invade their home, occupied their countries and treat the host with contempt, disrespect, and murder. Think about it, do you want something like that happen to you? So far, whatever atroscities committed by the military, from Abu Grab to the currecnt Hadith massacre, there is no accountability, no justice doen to punish those who are responsible. Just like people who suppose to supervise over billions of dollars of contracts that were given to the Bushies' croonies, there is no one there to overseeing the tax payer's money. Bush set the war on autopilot and close his eyes on the crimes committed, both moneitarily and militarily. What a shame! and shame on all of us who call ourselves American.

This war has been unjust since the beginning, and yet Americans voted these warmongers back into office for a second term. Haditha is an example of the atrocities that have been committed since we invaded and occupied a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 911 and terrorism. Yet we are in Iraq, killing the citizens of Iraq on a daily basis, indiscriminately, and thinking that there will be no repercussions to our troops who are in harms way. For every Iraqi we kill, unjustly, there will be a whole family waging Jihad against the next soldier that presents an opportunity. Imaginge this: That America is being invaded by Iraqi soldiers and bombed, killing 600,000 civilians, even though we had nothing to do with an attack that happened in Iraq, but, they blamed on Bush. Then after they bombed us, they hunted down Bush and jailed him in the White House, plus they occupied the White House and our streets and our neighborhoods. Then they asked us if Bush created war crimes against us and should we hang him, and we said yes. Then they hanged him and his cabinet and jailed everyone connected to the White House, then, disbanded our military and our decided to create a new constitution. Meanwhile, the American people decided to take up arms against invasion. What if they looked at us as insurgents and began busting our doors down, killing whole families, rounded up all the men and shipped them off to Iran to be tortured without due process because we were considred enemy combatants. What if they raped your daughters and killed the whole family , because this is war? Then they hired Al Quaeda as an independent contractor to protect their diplomats and shot any American who came within 2 feet of their convoys to the White House?!. You think that would be just because thats war and all is fair during a war. If we don't stop this madness, we will be paying for it with our blood, or nature will take care of us by a natural disaster because our atrocities have reached the heavens, to which the condemnation will be upon us for allowing it to happen and looking the other way.
