Papers? I Don’t See Any Papers.

He says he's 'pro-disclosure,' but Bill has kept Hillary's White House files under wraps.

Did ANY other superdelegate endorosing Clinton answered again and again - why did he do that?

It is hard to understand - WHY we all still watch these dirty games.
    WHY?

Comment: Why is that the Clinton's can mastermind things, don't play by the rules, change the rules with it fits them and never called on it. I think Hillary is hiding something relating to her taxes just as I thought she didn't want these articles seen.

Also she would probably put in a lawsuit to have Obama put out of the race. This when the American people start belive that the Democratic Party has become racial.

Comment: "Given all that they went through in office..." -- YES, and a good chunk of it brought on by Bill and Hillary
themselves -- this falls into the category (once again) of CLINTON VICTIMHOOD -- woe is them -- they
are just trying to do their best "for the country", "for the children" and its that VRWConspiracy, and now the
VLWconspiracy who are trying to do them in. We should trust Hillary to be the best candidate for the job,but
, as Ronald Reagan once said "trust but verify" , there will be no verification from Hillary, because then her
entire "web of deception" would disappear. She, as did her husband, has a massive cadre of handlers, to
be sure that she looks just right, sounds just right. Perception is everything , and she hopes that the
public will once again be conned , as they were with good ol' boy Bill. The country does not need another
    Clinton.

I don't care what happens between a husband and a wife, but when that husband is the Commander in Chief and lies under oath, no matter the topic, I am going to have a problem with that. And if people think Bill is going to sit around a pour tea for four years, they have got another thing coming. "Ousting testosterone" isn't going to solve anything. That's a very sexist statement... and I'm a woman. How would you like it if someone told you that your business had to "oust the estrogen"?

She wasn't president and if she was the major driving force behind his decisions in some areas that would make him look like a weak man and he doesn't want that. Its not her decision to make its her husbands...and if you payed attention to the lewisky crap you can tell that he ultimately makes his own decisions...hence cheating on his wife.

Comment: Anyone thinking that the Clintons will let loose of those papers before the election is whistling past the graveyard. And dollars to doughnuts, you won't find out after , either. They had to sit on her and get her out of the office during his term , because that big mouth of hers was getting them into trouble. Now it's his mouth. But if they want to keep him quiet , it's a lot easier than her. Just find him a broad and swear the secret service to secrecy outside the motel, and you can hole him up for the duration. I just can't understand one person in America, male or female, that can even think of her as President. I mean , I can see a bunch of left wing college girls , and nutsy feminists falling for her line. but any red blooded American Male who backs her should be drawn and quartered. She is a socialist and has never voted for a tax cut. She will bleed the average man dry, despite what she says. She is in the pocket of all the big wheels, so it''s not them that will be paying for her hairbrained schemes. I just can't understand it. The two of them are so crooked they have to practice what they are going to tell the cook what they want for breakfast. I'm just hoping for someone like Tancredo, or Huckabee, or an Independant of some worth to really bring up her past for all to see. These debates are a lark.... Everyone is kissy feely.... You have to go for the jugular.. She did the same last night as she always does, and the same way Slick Willie did before her... Talk and tap dance and say nothing. Is this the kind of person this country wants ? She can't keep running down the beach, and put her toe into the water. Sooner or later, she'll have to get in. Then maybe those who want to vote for her will finally get an inkling of what's she's really like.

Comment: Thanks BobD! This country is headed for a depression and the Republicans want more of the same. Are not the laborers tired of carrying that elephant on their back??? I think the people that are most worried about those papers are the ones that watch soap operas and read True Love magazines. Do you not know that if this depression happens that the rich will lose all and the poor will suffer as well. How would any of you like to have every part of your personal life spread out over the media and exposed to being torn apart by the "news media". Just step back and look at what is happening in our country and then look back at previous times. Our country is in a crisis! Financially, morally, and internationally. If things don't turn around we are going DOWN. A country that states it is "Of the people, by the people and FOR THE PEOPLE. " I still do not know whom I will vote for, but I have little regard for people that need to tear someone else down to build themselves up.

Comment: Given the Clintons experience with the "fair and balanced" news reporting about Whitewater ad nauseum, and the media's total disregard for the truth in Kerry's "Swiftboat" assassination, why would they want to share their personal dialogue regarding the darkest moments of their lives. I can hear Tony Snow now, "Trust me". Further, people are trying to obfuscate about current Hillery questions by alluding to "cover-up" from her past. Well, if she called a certain senator a rotten SOB because he deliberately misconstrued her health reform plans as "socialized medicine" when he supports social security 100%, she probably is right, and it probably serves no useful purpose to air that now, except to arm her opposition. Now then, I wonder why no one is alarmed about the Bush papers from his govenor years, when have been sealed and placed in his father's Presidential Library, further, no living human today will ever see either his Govenor or Presidential Papers. If you are unable to campaign without more dirt, do as Rove, make it up as you go! The media does not dain to challenge, especially if it is negative.

Comment: This is a great opportunity for Newsweek to prove it's alleged unbiased presentation of the news. Assign aggressive journalists to research the facts and publish the unvarnished truth BEFORE the election. Why are the Clinton documents not available? I personally doubt Newsweek can prove itself unbiased. History is too clear in the anti-Republican leaning of this rag.

Comment: Is this a surprise to anyone? The whole Clinton (Bill) administration was one coverup after another. Why should that change with Hillary? Where is Newsweek on this story - seeking out the inside stories that they always seem to find or allude to or make up about anything Republican? I am sure we will have all sorts of disclosures in the future - after 11/08. Great reporting job. And you wonder why I stopped my subscription to Newsweek, or should I say the DNC newletter and promotion journal. By the way, what is the definition of propaganda?

  • Posted By: abrook8 @ 11/04/2007 4:34:53 PM

Comment: Dems: the accusation party: the party of liars. Everything is GW's fault. She says they are secreive, yet Bill is caught flat out lying and the press is sitting on a story about Hillary's lover who travels with her. Let's see: If a Republican pinches his sixth grade theacher, then Newsweek will sniff it out. If a Democrat like Bill and Hillary lies at every turn, no story.. Media
Bias? LA TIMES release the story! Here Bill and Hillary are caught red handed out right lying and no one bothers to call them on it.

Comment: There was a song during the 40's/50's. The line that plays over in my mind is"The Rich get rich and the Poor get poorer". Seems like history is repeating itself. Whom among you were not better off 8 years ago? The answer has to be the multi billionaires that our current adminustration has produced.. How has that helped the majority of the people in our society? And where does those billions come from? I can remember a time when there was no homeless other than those whom chose to live like that, they were called hobo's. Just about anyone could afford to see a doctor and dentist and even go to the hospital. No insurance needed. With a few years of saving, you could buy a home and some did it without borrowing. There also were families with a parent at home to oversee their childrens upbringing and activities and the morality was such that crimes common today were rare then. Juvenile delinquency was only in the big cities and even then not as bad as it is today. People did not see a need to lock their doors. So what happened? Big business. Big business is not concerned with how much damage they do to this country, only in how much money they can garner from it! So we want to know all about what is in the Clinton White House Archives. From a political point of view I can see why that is of a big concern. But irregardless of what is there, are you better off since they have left the White House.? If you are then how much money do you have?

Comment: Republicans established a whole industry dedicated to smearing her reputation. Go to a bookstore and you'll find a whole bunch of books smearing her. These people have worked for 15 years to smear her as a *** communist who doesn???t share our ???family values???. Cal Thomas insists she doesn???t believe in Christianity (she taught Sunday school). They insist she is an acolyte of Alinsky (she rejected his ideas). They say she hates full time moms, will impose abortion on demand, take everyone???s guns, cut and run in Iraq (she already said exactly the opposite).
They falsely accused her of murdering Vince Foster, JFK Jr and Ron Brown, violating ethics rules with her book deal (the GOP-run ethics panel cleared her). They accuse her of crime when she makes money on cattle and she loses money in Whitewater. They accuse her of crimes connected with the travel office, of using the FBI to hunt down her enemies (independent counsel cleared her). Republicans spent 50 million trying to dig up dirt, and failed.
Judicial Watch, which launched the jihad against the Clintons in the 90s, launched a new suit, demanding every one of the millions of documents and emails from her first-lady days, so they can troll for dirt to smear her with; also diaries, phone logs, day planners. A magazine, Insight, accused her of complicity in the Black Panther protests in 1970, and of smearing Obama as a radical Muslim. Giuliani calls her a socialist and condemned her health plan before he had read it; he ran an ad claiming she took part in the MoveOn ad on Iraq. Romney equated her to Marx. McCain claims she ignores terrorism.

Comment: Business as usual for the Democrats. I've always said I would vote for Hillary if and when she comes clean on what happened to Vince Foster, Travelgate, Filegate, and her involvement witht the Black Panthers. So I guess I will be voting for someone else. Transparency for Hillary is more like a one way mirror.

Comment: Here's a novel solution. Just let Sandy Berger come in and go through all of the sensitive documents.

  • Posted By: NYker @ 10/23/2007 1:14:36 PM

Comment: Why not let Sandy Berger in first. Then the library will be free of any papers that make the Clintons look bad.

Comment: Why would Democrats accept this? After 7 years of secrecy and distortions, we're going to volunteer for more of the same with Hillary? Barack Obama has worked to steer government in the opposite direction. He has passed legislation to bring more transparency to government. He has published his earmarks for all to see. He has even released his tax returns. He walks the talk people. Obama '08!

Comment: The former First Lady knows if those records went public, her chances for the Presidency would go down the drain. Corruption, extortion and threats were and are a part of the "Clinton Machine". It's not so much that people are entitled to know what went on during those eight years. It is her constant demand for acceptance as a viable candidate based on her experience. This is an experience that she will NOT reveal. Something smells afoul in Little Rock

Comment: To all the democrats who support Clinton and complain about Bush's executive privileges and secrecy of information, you might want to think twice. As this article points out (secrecy of information in a library, lol), she is nothing more then a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Comment: The Clinton's make theemselves look bad...nobody else is doing it. For Clinton to come right out and blame the lack of release on BUSH while he is the one who is actually behind it. Tell me, who's fault is that? Clinton is no more honest than Bush, he's just better at hiding his dishonestly.

Comment: Maybe they're afraid Sandy Berger will stuff something important down his pants again...seriously though, if you have nothing to be ashamed of why not full disclosure? Very, very suspicious. We'd probably be able to link all the hinky Asian donors together with either Hsu or Seto or both.

Comment: The following clause is the nut of the article:

"",while publicly saying he wants to ease restrictions on his records, Clinton has given the Archives private instructions to tightly control the disclosure of chunks of his archive. ""

Of course I knew it had to be this way, but I'm glad to see that Newsweek is confirming it. I guess you did it becaude a lot of people know and you wanted to be the quoted source.

If you remember the Jane Sherburne Memo - the 12-page "task list" compiled by Associate
White House Counsel Jane Sherburne in December, 1994 that was really a list of publicly known Clinton scandal relatyed matters released on August 15, 1996 to Rep. William Clinger's Government Reform and Oversight Committee and printed in the Wall Street Journal in early September 1996, one of the issues was
    n. Archives--abuse of personnel system (**)

Of course Clinbton had to be very interested in who was appointed theer, and it was only closeness to some people there that enabled Sandy Berger to steal some materials, in order to better deceive the 9/11 Commisison. he got caught because lower ranking people basically trapped him. The item on which he was strapped wass stealing copies of a memorandum - which he apparently was trying to prevent from reaching the 9/11 commisison in order to sell a fanstasy of stopping trrorists attacks on or abouit January 1, 2000. Another lie they told the 9/11 commision were aboput Clinton having wanted to kill bin Laden. I think any documents about the Sudan offer were probably destroyede by Sandty Berger while Clinton was still in office but he had to inspect the materials to see thweer was nothing there,

Comment: No doubt the Clinton's are interested in controlling their image and access to their papers, but this article's brush with the state of the law on public access doesn't help explain much.

Unlike what Isikoff says, the 1978 Presidential Records Act favored release and disclosure. The prolonged and extensive review by ex and current Presidents and their effective veto power on release is the creation of George W. Bush. Isikoff does say that Bush in under challenge in Federal Court in a convoluted wording, but his piece understates what a departure from existing law Bush made.

Comment: The Clintons are afraid that their true colors will be disclosed; the fact that their many years in politics have not been spent in promoting the common good, but in enriching themselves and their cohorts while letting the means justify the ends in their quest for power. The American people should be wary of these two. When Hillary said that she wasn't just some little woman standing by her man, and then did the opposite to preserve her viability for her future runs for public office, she showed what her true principles were--anything to get to the oval office. She and Bill are afraid that their pasts will come back to haunt them.

Comment: Have you ever heard the song "Ain't We Got Fun" It was popular in the 40's. One line that sticks out in my mind is "The Rich Get Rich and the Poor Get Poorer." I suppose it would be good to know what is in the Clinton papers, but would that change the fact that most of us were better off than? That after 8 years of Republican power our country has sunk so far? This favoring of the Special interest and creation of multi billionaires, while the ordinary person finds it more and more difficult to live a normal life. How do these obscenely wealthy people get there money. From us! It is practically getting to a master and slave society. Yes, I have lived during the time any one could afford a trip to the doctor or dentist, or even the hospital. There were no homeless other than the hobo that chose to live that way. You actually could easily save money enough to buy a home and buy it outright. Most families had a parent at home to raise and oversee their childrens activities. Morality was a given in most of society. Most people did not even lock their doors. So what happened? Big business is what happened and the Republicans are an advocate of this. For those of you that are not the recently SUPER wealthy class, are you better off today that you were 8 years ago?

Comment: I am amazed, but not surprised that the Clinton Dynasty has decided not to open the records. There are a large number of "shady dealings" in achieving their political aspirations. An unusually large number of major donors that are and have been in jail, as well as close family members. In addition to the shady business dealings of whitewater, Bill committing perjury, providing pardons to family members and political donors, stealing the white house furniture and silverware, etc. Plenty of things to hide...

  • Posted By: amaterasu2004 @ 10/21/2007 12:31:43 PM

Comment: Is this really a suprise? Sounds like situation normal for most Democrats, please notice not all Democrats, so when it comes to disclosure it is in my opinion a joke.

More to the point is the fact of what can be kept secret and how do we keep it secret.

It would be one of the most egregious errors in history to have Hillary back in the White House, she has already been there, is that not already obvious to most folks...just speculation though she did not give up Bill because she did not and does not want to give up the power she thinks she has....yes I said thinks...

It is truly time to get some common sense and a modicum of moral values back in the Government of the United States of America instead of all the political correctness insanity that has been brought about mainly by the deluded ideas and denial of the liberal farce of thinking everything and anything goes...
