    Comment: Having said all this, once modern worlds' so called educated brains when say that Islam is aggressive, and ignore their absurd leaders like BUSH's action to spread state terror all over the world and made Americans vulnerable and disrespected all over the world. In fact Islam is name of peace but it forbids to cowardly bear the atrocities of aggressors. Islam considers one innocent man's killing as demise of all universe.
    But as per the suicide attacks in Iraq, Palestine and Pakistan are concerned, be honest to analyse properly that such acts are not ACTION but REACTIONS of the absurd actions of US and Israel who are killing innocent women, kids and men just to expand their empires and embezzle the Oil in Iraq.
    British has left a bone of contention KASHMIR between India and Pakistan so that these two potentially talented nations keep on fighting and never gain peace and US and WEST keep on selling their weapons to them. IN fact US is the biggest enemy of peace of world. I am not saying all this in any reaction but this is fact. Even most of educated and sensible Americans would agree and they are fed up with BUSH's policies.
    Message of Islam is "LIVE AND LET LIVE"
    In the end I would suggest my non-Muslim friends to read Kuran with free and clean mind and they would find it interesting not boring and would find solution to every problem in it. In fact WEST and US's social and political problems can be solved to follow the great teachings of Islam which even Muslim leaders are not doing just to prolong their rule under the auspices of US policies.
    Lets spread Peace and Love in the world and stop producing Weapons and lets make a consensus on banning to produce destructive and any form of weapons.
    Peace and Prosperity lies in working together not to split the world in social, ethnic and religious groups. Though Islam is a reality and fact of life but Islam does not teach Muslims to spread it by forcefully imposing on others. Islam is complete code of life. Islam is based on nature. Islam is peace. Islam is love.

    Comment: I have read some comments against and in favour of Islam, I would like to share some piece of info with my ignorant non-Muslim friends who blindly write against any religion whereby they even do not know about their own religion Christianity. Had they studied their own religious books they would have accepted Islam and Kuran, for all the truths had been mention in Bible about Kuran and Islam but there's so many alterations in current Bibles that such truths have been hidden from Christians. . There is a saying when we lose the way we should start from beginning and any community or a sect should not be judged by action of an individual but from the basic teachings or practice of its leaders. Now If someone is really interested to know about Islam he must read the life of our Prohet who has spent 40 years among non-believers till Allah bestowed him with the responsibility to pass His message to ignorant people of that time who were drowned in Liquor and bury their daughters immediately after their birth. Girl was thought a symbol of bad luck that time and disgraced. People were recognised by the big family name they carry rather than their abilities or actions. Prophet Muhammad PBUH showed his character of 40 years to persuade those ignorants to show the light of Islam and leave the dark practices but that time also blinds opposed him without knowing the truth and kept on trying to fail Muhammad PBUH but he was blessed with Allah's special care and patience that he has been preaching for 13 years (out of his 23 years of his prophet-hood) peacefully in the hope that these ignorant would accept His message one day. But once he realised that despite all efforts of peace and harmony these people dont understand rather think him to be weak and kept on attacking and imposing wars on Muhammad PBUH then in reaction to defend himself and his nation Muhammad PBUH raised the sword against such negative elements, for its atrocity to bear the atrocities. And one must raise voice against aggressors.

Keeping Bin LADEN alive seems to be making a lot of people rich. We need to get Bin Laden and get the hell out of pacistan, let nations determine their own future.     Comment: WE NEED TO GET BIN LADEN AND GET THE HELL OUT OF pacistan. Let the U.N do their job. Let's use our force through the U.N. or through an ARAB===ISRAELI COUNCIL, which includes all countries in the region like INDIA, WARIKSTAN, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan. China and India have historically and traditionally had much more in common then uncommon, therefore the grounds for cooperation are naturally existent. We need to build alliances with these nations and let them put the pressure on their neighbors when the misbehave. We well then keep those force in check. It is a lot cheaper or "cost effective", to be smart and build alliances rather than unilaterally attacking these destablization issues, like the death of BHUTTO. The death of Bhutto was a direct result of the JIHAD CHApter. A young man subliminally indoctrinated to destroy his life and twenty one others including BHUTTO, was brainwashed by JIHAD to carry out a political assissination. You cannot seperate Mosque from state in the Muslim world. There should be JIHAD waged against those who misuse this doctrine like the Ayatolah and pacistani military leadership. It is obvious that these leaders knew their reign of power was over and that Bhutto was going to let the "AMERICANS" run the country. It should be no surprise that this assissination happened, in fact the victim even e mailed her own murderers. America needs to stop forcing the issue they should of brought BHUTTO back humbly. SHE SHOULD NOT have been parading. This is war, JIHAD means war. WHEN WILL WE UNDERSTAND THAT THESE people have declared war. BHUTTO is death could have been prevented if people really understood what JIHAD means.

    Comment: well realisticaly, Pakistan seems to be a dangerous place in western prospective as such voilence never happend there in recent times.Pakistan been going through a rough patch ever since its formation, so its not a big thing for people of pakistan to tackle such problems but yes People are serious this time and they will definitely bring that uncertain condition in pakistan to an end and a happy begining, Moreover, question rises, who has let pakistan to this situation? so answer is so simple, its Pakistani people itself who never come out against the dictators either they come from establishment or from the people themselves. so the day people will come out will be the day to end the voilence and ambiguous situation in Pakistan.

Unfortunitely, this will cause complete meltdown of the political process in Pakistan. Musharraf is going to lose the elections and a terrorist government will be installed. With that terrorist government is going to be the first strike on America with a nuke. The government fails, the nukes are placed in the hands of radical Islamists and they will be distributed to terror networks world wide. Its a very sad day for the world.     Comment: The Musharraf government is pro-American and is therefore doomed. The Islamists are in control in that region of the earth and there is nothing America can do to rectify the situation. With Bhotto's death, the Islamists will gain strength and Musharraf's party will lose and a pro-Islamic government will be installed. This means an atomic terrorist group will come of age and the USA is going to be the target. The Pakistani government needs to place their nukes in a secure environment before this happens or all out global war will result. Seems as though the peace process is in reverse as time goes forward. American troop presence the root cause. I am not saying Hillary is not capable, I just think that Barak Obama has the right instincts and skills to tame that region. He is part of a movement that is very determined to succeed. Hillary Clinton will be an asset to the OBAMA presidency. Hillary Clinton is not a figure that will be welcomed in the traditional Muslim world as president, as a member of OBAMA's presidency YES. WHY?because it is a different culture. This is the first time a woman actually has a chance to become president. That is cutting edge even for our culture, imagine how it is perceived in the Muslim world, they are not ready yet. The late Benazir ws PM of Pakistan twice. Sheik Hasina was PM of Bangladesh. Begum Khaleda Zia was the other PM of Bangladesh.Raziya Sultan, a muslim queen ruled a large swathe of India a few centuries ago.

    First, I seriously doubt that Newsweek has no hidden motive to defame anyone. Their goal is to sell magazines and advertising to whomever will purchase them with whatever currency they choose to buy it with.

    Second, the article does address the millions of dollars the U.S. funnelled into Pakistan during the Cold War. However, the article is not titled "The History of Pakistan." It's title "Where the Jihad Lives NOW."

    Lastly, in reference your final paranoid line about evil design. The only evil design is that of extremists and terrorists. The only 'sacrifice' is to murder women and children in their efforts to take the world back to the days of ignorance and mud huts.

Its sad how certain elements will do whatever they can to acheive the evil goals they have. The fact that your Pakistan is a newby with a nukey, is not very comforting in the least.     -In the article Pakistani leaders were blamed for creating Islamist monster. Let???s not forget that the Taliban was in part support by the CIA when it started operations in 1979. Conveniently the authors forgot to mention this important fact

    Comment: This is a well-researched and written piece. All the factors that make Pakistan the most dangerous country in the world are accounted for. Its descent into the abyss started a long time ago, I might add, and the longer and the more insistent the denial, the weaker its grip on restoration. Pakistan will be ruled by the Taleban, and call them whatever you may, the Taleban have so far deftly handled their influence upon the Pakistani security and intelligence apparatus. But their greatest ally is the religious establishment and the madrassas, for without their committed and persistent championing of their cause and purpose in Islam and the Ummah, it would peter out. Instead it is postured to grow, take control of Pakistani society, control its weapons, all I might add, as it has done its foreign and domestic policies. To all who know, the talebanization of Pakistan is inexorable, certain, and extremely dangerous. I would have wished the author to briefly explore the reasons why democracy is anathema in Pakistani society, what are the national goals of Pakistan, if these are anywhere enunciated, and how terror is the most natural outcome. His prognosis, not prophetic, but deductive would have helped those who are proud to be Pakistanis to ask, of which Pakistan am I proud, and to seriously recraft the foundation principles for a new county, the "True" Pakistan.

It???s not just CIA or the government of US, even the common people of US don???t have any moral, ethical, religious or social values. All they care about is themselves. As long as they are happy, they don???t bother how many millions are being brutally killed by their own armies and supporters in the world. As long as their children are happy, they don???t bother about millions of children being killed because of their country's brutal policies. I wonder when would their conscience would wake up.

    This story along with many such stupid efforts to implicate Pakistan into terrorism, trying to isolate it and eventually make it a target, are never going to succeed. Pakistan is no Iraq or Afghanistan who US can roll over. No matter how divided we might seem from outside, no matter how vulnerable we might look, but if attacked from outside, rest assured the response would be so destructive that it would take the entire world down. Any attack on Pakistan, be it surgical strikes on its nuclear weapons or any action against the so called extremists would mean an all out attack on Pakistan. This would start the third world war. Caution to the American people who think they would be safe in their homes, dance in the night clubs, study at colleges and universities while their armies attack one country after the other.       1. The talibs are not considered moderate as you think. The talibs may appear to be moderate in relation to al-qaeda and others but the thoughts in their braian are similar to al-qaeda.

      2. In this present struggle agsint the Emergency (or Martial Law II), the bad guys (Mullahs and fundamentalists) are rubbing shoulders with the good guys (lawyers, professionals, and others). This is the problem. In 60 long years, the people of Pakistan (good guys) have not been able to shirk of f the "bad" guys and maintain their own distinct identity. Now it is too late and too difficult to do. Now you need outside help. That is why this present struggle against Emergency will not succeed. Who wants to let the terrorists win? Bhutto is saying all the right things only for the sake for saying. She will be no different from any other leader in stalling once she comes to power. Compared to MUshsrraf, she will be even more handicapped as she will not have the absolute power that Musharraf has. At this juncture, only someone with absolute power can crush the terrorism with support from US. This means closing more than 60% madrssasa, sending army to many cities occupied by talibs, cleaning up FATA and NWTerritories thoroghly.
      3. Without US help. nothing can change in Pakistan. Don't blame US, blame the people of Pakistan because all these 60 years they were comfortably lounging on the deck instead of working hard or even being concerned about the spread of religious fundamantalism. WHatever Musharraf has done so far(even if little) against terrorism was due to pressue from US. YOu need the outside pressure to change things. That everybody recognizes. Pakistani's themselves have prooved it. As if that is not enough, your every leader makes decisions on cue from US and or try to get their master's approval before they open their mouth. Clearly, seeing the past behavior of both people and leaders, Pakistan cannot do much without US help.

      Moreover, if you read all the responses, you will see that Pakistanis blaming India was what motivated others to come to India's defence.
      Plus, there was no need to drag Fareed Zakaria in this and pointing out his Indian ancestry. He is an analytical, calm and logical person, who can go beyond his family religion and origin of birth.
      Dr. Zakaria has at times, correctly poined out flaws in the Indian system as well, which did not cause all this angst amongst Indians. Infact, tons of Indians are protesting any wrong doings with their own country.

      Plus, if the U.S. govenrment can give you billions of dollars in just a few years, and billions more in the past decades, you might as well accept the fact they feel you are obligated to them; the US can expect Pakistan to toe the line and that they can criticize events in Pakistan that are contrary to their objectives.
      The sad fact is that most of the money has gone into the pockets of corrupt individuals and not for the betterment of society/economy.

    Comment: Musharafs sole concern is not to retain power it is to protect the people from the politicians who plague the country. The Taliban or whatever you call them were very mucha part of the political system during democracy with their blessing and support. Musharaf is not a dictator he is the person to put a stop to the politicians who would have made Pakistan bankrupt and run away to the comfort of their multibillion dollar investments in the UAE and saudi. Please dont compare Saddam and Musharaf the former being a well exposed experiement of the U S gone wrong, while Musharaf is a honorable solider doing what he is trained to do protect his nation by all means necessary.

Hardly an unchecked slaughter. Anyone who was there in Bangladesh at the time would clearly remember that due to the logistical problems the Pakistan army was unable to large full scale military assaults as people claim, the atrocities carried out unfortunately so were regardless of religion, race and sadly age.
    Oh yes Bravo on raising this chatter to a higher plane I just wish people googled the info and did not entirely miss the point, ad hominem arguments really just accentuate the fact that unfledged vilification is the only resort for the baffled mind.

It will interest you to know that their parents worked in Saudi Arabia and the boys were radicalised while studying there mainly under the influence of the father ( against oppositon of the mother). They had no compunctions about getting their cousin in trouble, who studied in India and was working in Australia. The source of trouble is again- Saudi Arabia.

      Indian muslims are largely peaceful and very well integrated- be it a Sania Mirza or a Sharukh Khan or an Azeem Premji. Excellent role models for all of us.

    Comment: It seems that if America is capable of turning around the insurgency in Iraq, which we appear to be doing slowly, then Pakistan should be capable of routing the Taliban from its borders. Pakistanis were attempting to manipulate the Taliban, but as happens when one creates a monster, it turns on its master. Now, the Taliban is infecting Pakistan like a cancer. Time for some serious chemo, no matter how bad it hurts. As for Musharraf, he is part of the problem. These militants were his buddies just 10-15 years ago when he sent them into Kargil to kill Indians. How can he possibly be a saviour for Pakistan? Pakistan's best hope is to get rid of him and vote in a legitimate government that has real credentials to battle extremism. Let's see the people of that country do what is right, rather than what is easy. America is willing to help.

It is very complex religion, if you want to understand it read its books, else try Dr. Amartya Sen's 'The Argumentative Indian'.     1)Pakistan and most of the developing countries are not keen to service the west they do so out of fear of being labelled terorist nations and having to face military force of massive super powers such as the U.S., countries at Pakistans throat waiting for a slip up such as india would gladly be at the forefront of giving western powers all access and facilities to reduce this nation to rubble.

      It emerged that contrary to earlier reports, Mr Ahmed was not a medic but an engineer with a PhD in design and technology.
      His brother is Dr Sabeel Ahmed. , 26, who was arrested near Liverpool's Lime Street station on 30 June and was charged under the Terrorism Act on 14 July.
      He appeared again at the Old Bailey, via video link, on 5 October and was remanded back into custody.
      His mother, has told the BBC that her son is second cousin to Dr Haneef. And she said her son followed Dr Haneef to Britain to work.

      These crazy cousins should have stuck to healing not bombinmg...but religious fanaticism can unhinge the best minds.
