As an American, I have a different view of the "peace loving islam" religion. I have seen nothing peaceful or loving about it. Islam is a "religion" that supports the murder of innocent civilians in the name of jihad; the beheading of people; the violence against women; the refusal to educate your children of anything other than the koran. Muslims have created your own downfall and destruction. Islamafascist mullahs and most muslims that are interviewed on U.S. television believe that islam is the only religion; that all countries will one day be islamic; that muslims are only reacting to violence against them by the U.S. and Isreal. Wake up!! Moderates have allowed these extreme thoughts to become common place. I understand that all islamafacist and most mullahs will disagree with this statement, but, like the Spanish Inquisition, your ideology and methods are wrong. God lives for us, we don't live for God.

I also have my soft feelings for the soldiers fighting against the terrorists. You must have heard about a fresh attack by so-called Jihadis in Swat on armed forces, killing 30. Now what should we say? These are fighters of Sufi Mohammad and this is not a result of American policy, this is a result of an attempt to creat a state within state. My focus will remain that we need to focus on the problems with our perspective and should try to rectify them.

Why do people trust Bin Laden so much, who the hell is he to tell Pakistani's what to do... WHY AREN'T WE ASKING OURSELVES THAT QUESTION. Al-Qaeda prey's on the poor, but they aren't poor. Osama and his followers speak of Islam as if they are scholars. They are cowards! Before you start accusing me of not being muslim... I am and I was born in Pakistan! Lets stop blaming ALL our problems on the West!!!

I would love for someone to answer this question for me... Bin Laden(he's not a true Muslim) loves to preach for Pakistani's to take action against Musharraf because he has ties with the US. Why the hell isn't he over in Saudi Arabia(his own country) and worrying about their relations with the US????

If you are are a true Muslim.. stand up against militant Muslims!! Remember one thing, we(Muslims) believe in one god, Christians believe in one god, Jews believe in one god! There aren't any enimies, civilians do not need to pay for extremeism.

I hope I don't offend anyone, but i'm passionate about this... because I feel militant Muslims are ruining the lives of the TRUE Muslims.

Please someone respond or point in the direction of what more Muslims can do to speak out against Osama and Al-Qaeda ruining Pakistan.. Thank you!

Regarding your story I got that now at this time when America is losing his war in Iraq and Afganistan so he need again a scap goat to hide the current sitution and Pakistan is the most easy target now a days in the world to blame for any kind of torrorism activities. What i understand from YOUR COVER story that you dont know any thing abt pakistan , what pakistan doing for Bludy selfish American and what they are forcing to do I m surprise how easily American are living and they put whole world in critical sitution . i m surprise when i read your cover story and read all material which you include in it with no prove just conversation and a fake sitution you and your writer suppose . Did u mention any graph or any survey of the world in which people vote for this thing that pakistan is denger. Now you also mention that pakistani people has close relationship with millitiants since USSR war But Why u forgot you have to mention America also in this story who had close relation with millitant also at that time now Why r u putting all blame on Pakistan, America create all these millitants in 1980's when he used them in the world you will did survey then you will get that and understand that America IS THE MOST DENGER country in the world. And how comfortable Afgani here in Pakistan for this America and UNO is responsible why they stop sending all refugees in pakistan back why they are saying to us that please keep them for some time more . Yes We didn mistake and Blunder to coprate with America . We are Fighting for Americans here We should stop support on war on terror , then diffanitly pakistan will do development and also bomb balst and terrorism will stop in pakistan . I m student in Karachi University and i live in karachi since my childhood and i love my city there is no place for Americans and Terrorism . Pkaistan Rocks!

Thanks to Newsweek for a honest, precise and timely cover story about the ill-fated nation called Pakistan. USA will have all the blessings of us Indians if it were to invade the nation and seize their nukes that might get into fanatic hands. Also, more appropriate thing to do is give the Sindhis, Pashtuns and Balochis their much wanted freedom from the Punjabi Muslim hegemony in the affairs of Pakistan. Well meaning Sindhis, Pashtuns and Balochis have been trying for a separate homeland for their respective ethnicities for several decades now. I have read a touching press statement issued by a Balochi leader after the death of Nawab Akbar Shahbaz Khan Bugti last year. It says, "???We have been Baloch for more than 7000 years. We became Muslim some 1400 years ago, and have been Pakistanis for just 60 years.??? That sums it up. USA can have the Balochistan(lying beside Iran) and NWFP(as a frontier for it's central asian strategies) and give us the Punjab and Sindh. Ofcourse without it's Muslim Punjabis.

It's true that Taliban were created by US to fight againt Soviet Union but what should happen to the dog which turns around and start biting his own Master? That is exactly what is happening to Talibans and they very well deserve it!

  • Posted By: aman04 @ 10/26/2007 8:25:48 AM

Aniqa I respect ur opinion, but I have a right to disagree. My only concern is that we should not deny the ground realities on the basis that the writer is American.
I disagree on the observation regarding Taliban, because they came on the scene in 1995-96 when Naseer Ullah Babar was Interior Minister. What would we get by blaming US? We need to focus on the real issues. I refer to the Kamran Khan Show, in which he asked people to write. Taliban came into power as a result of their training in Pakistani madrassas. These were Afghan refugees. I always agree with Nazeer Naji, that their Govt. was a tribal style of rule not Islamic.
The future of Pakistan should be according to ideas of Quiad-e-Azam and not the vision of Taliban.

The reactions coming from Pakistani readers is understandble. When we listen all the TV talk shows, newspaper, it is said that Pakistan is not a safe country for anybody. Suicide attacks have become routine feature. All these attacks are carried out in the name of Islam. These people are not writing against these jihadis and terrorists, but they have been deputed to write against newsweek.
The incident of Red Mosque was the best evidence of unholy alliance of extremists and ruling elite in Pakistan. Under the nose of Presidency and parliament, the terrorists were operating. The Govt. had no intention to take action against them at their own, this was the Chinese pressure which forced them to take action. Federal Minister, Ejaz Ul Haq said on TV that he approached President Musharraf to quit Maulana Abdul Aziz of Red Mosque from the charges of terrorism, when illegal weapons and terrorists were caught in his car. This is evident the relationship between the two sides.
Now the reactions on this article also vindicate the mindset of these extremist forces. These emails are Govt. driven emails, they are asking on the media to write to newsweek.
Hamid Mir, said that neuclear weapons are in safe hands, I ask him what happend to the safe hands when nuclear weapons were transferred to Iran, N.Korea, Libya and others? Dr. Qadeer at his own could not have done that. These were high army officials involved in the trade.
This is strange that people say that jihadis have grown after as a result of American policies. I disagree, because we have been seeing this jihad in the name of secretarianism well before 1991 even, when gulf war was going on.Sunni and Shia clash has been going on in the name of Jihad. Instead of blaming west, it is better that we should recognize the problem first, if we really want to solve this. The denial would not do justice to the future of the country. Afterall meaning of a Muslim is "True Person".
The people in Pakistan are getting afraid of Benazir Bhutto for a reason that she has returned to fulfill American Agenda. They fail to read the script again. Musharraf has urged PML (Q) to launch campaign against Bhutto so that when he would bring PML(Q) in upcoming election, he would say that the anti-american vote has gone to ruling party. This was the logic he gave in 2002 elections.
Extremism is at its peak in Pakistan and women and minorites are victims of this. The mindset of ruling party about women is very clear. So the people worried about Musharraff for his role in war against terror, should not get worried. Because under the cosmetics of enlightend moderation, he is supporting extremism.

I'M SO TIRED OF EVERYONE CALLING AMERICA A BULLY. WE DON'T WANT YOUR COUNTRIES! WE WANT PEACE! WE WANT YOUR MISGUIDED RELIGIOUS FANATICS TO LEAVE US ALONE. WE ARE NOT CONQUERORS, WE ARE LIBERATORS. STOP BUTCHERING EACH OTHER AND WE WILL LEAVE. THE TALIBAN OPPRESSES PEOPLE AND KILLS INNOCENT CIVILIANS IN THE NAME OF GOD. THEY NEED TO BE EXTINGUISHED. WE TRY TO PLAY BY THE RULES, WE TRY TO BE FAIR AND DECENT AND WE PAY WITH AMERICAN LIVES. GOOD MUSLIMS SHOULD STAND UP AND FIGHT THE RADICALS THAT CAUSE SO MUCH PAIN.

i am totally shocked and concerned about the credibility of your magazine regarding any report you publish. i am a resident of Karachi , I have lived here all my life and I tend to do so in future as well. Ron Moreau and Michael Hirsh described Karachi as a city where Islamist fighters now operate relatively freely ! i don???t know in which coco world these 2 have concocted this story but it is far from true! Twisting of facts and lying wow i need to get training from these people in how to deceive. One incidence of Karachi bombing and we are world most dangerous place! Bhutto could have avoided this but she didn???t , she wanted to show a drama to west how popular she is and in her return instead of taking a helicopter as she was advised she chose to mount on a truck to give way to the nut case suicide bomber to play with the lives of 150 people.
Bombing also happened in London when we where there and lots of innocent people lots there lives does this mean London is the most dangerous place on earth ?? no these people should be blamed who do this not the places. Musharaf is doing more than his share we see it this way. Being a country with limited resources and man power we have lost more lives then any country or all the country combined. Your article is an insult to all the sentiment of Pakistani people and to all the relatives of those who were killed in this battle of protecting our ideology, our integrity, our nation from terrorists. As a silent protest i will not buy news week any more. Regards Mrs Aniqa

Whenever I have been in mood to know about my world, I preferred Newsweek.

It lost that credibilty. It too prints rubbish, bised and yellow now. But I know you are a nation of liers. You lied about the WMD's in Iraq. Your Foreign Scratery even showd concrete proofs. Those prooofs were also proved to be a big lie.

WE ARE PROUD PAKISTANIS. PAKISTAN IS OUR PARADISE ON EARTH. WE HATE ALL THOSE WHO CONSIDER PAKISTAN MOST DANGEROUS COUNTRY ON EARTH.
ALL IS BECAUSE OF ONE UNOPPOSSED "SUPPER POWER". "ISLAM" MEANS "PEACE". PAKISTAN IS THE LAND OF PEACEFULL PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN ONENESS OF ALLAH ALMIGHTY.
I STRONGLY DEMAND THE MAGAZINE TO BEG APPOLOGY FROM PAKISTANIS.

This is what I've gathered from the comments:

    A common Pakistani:
-Blames all the mischievous events occurring in Pakistan on the West and specially USA.
-Believes in conspiracy theories against the West/USA.
-Taking your own aggression and frustration out on the world???s greatest nation i.e. USA.
-Believes Jews is to blame for 9/11 and for manipulating Americans to act on their behalf.
-Believes Saddam and Osama to be American agents.
    -Condemning Musharraf for being pro-American.

All the above is concluded in common gatherings because that demonstrates how well educated and knowledgeable one is on world affairs and current affairs. Anyone with any contrary views is condemned!

    We All know:
-A common Pakistani man carries anti-American sentiments.
-Give Respect to Osama for being an exceptional 'Muslim'
-Talibans are getting out of control in Pakistan and security forces are unable to confined, disarm or eradicate them. (Watch news on Pakistani TV) and in fact it's the other way around, Pakistani security forces and military are being successfully targeted by them (watch news on Pakistani TV).

    Anyone disagrees?

A government whose citizens, political leaders, security and armed forces are not safe from radical Islamists and Talibans, guarantees safety of its nuclear facilities?

For people who don't understand why Pakistan is the most dangerous nation, please read the following in the article.
"...Today no other country on earth is arguably more dangerous than Pakistan. It has everything Osama bin Laden could ask for: political instability, a trusted network of radical Islamists, an abundance of angry young anti-Western recruits, secluded training areas, access to state-of-the-art electronic technology, regular air service to the West and security services that don't always do what they're supposed to do." and most importantly Pakistan has Nukes too!

    Sill denying the ground realty?

It's one thing to be patriotic but it's another to call a spade a spade. I am a Pakistani by birth but prefer to use my brain to analyze things instead of acknowledging common man's believes. We don't have to be a herd of sheep. It's OK to express your point of view even it's contrary to the majority. (Free Speech and freedom to express your views is seriously lack in Pakistan)

    -------------------------
    Free Speech priceless!

We Pakistanis have suffered more than any other nation at the hands of terrorists only to get unwarranted blame in the end that Pakistan is more dangerous than Iraq. Pakistan has no comparison with IRAQ. The story is based on only allegations. The writers have not compared Iraq with Pakistan with figures and substantive arguments. at the end i would like to qout as some one said USA is going to its End, look at you stock exchange, interest rates, house mortgages, oil prices, food prices etc etc all of these are gift of war and once a nation has problems like these they had a end like Russia, so plz take care of ur self.....

every one should should think that why all this is happening, its due to American ane west policies against ISLAM. About Osama ,america having state of the art technology to monitor everything on earth cant control Talibans then how u can expect that pak army can control them.I CONDEMNED THE THINKING OF THE WRITER AND THE WORDS USED FOR OUR ARMY,i think before asking pak army "demoralized" he should ask American americaly the same.
