Where the Jihad Lives Now

The United States is one of the biggest democracy in the world and yet it unashamedly aids and abets dictatorships in other countries for its selfish reasons. Pakistan is no exception. Zia was helped in his days and then Musharraf is being helped. However, to sanitize Musharaff, the United States administration has involved Benazir Bhutto but forgetting that she is a Sindhi and daughter of murdered prime minister Zulfiqar Al Bhuttois bound to clash with the military at one point . As far as the corruption charges are concerned these cases have been dragging on since last eight years and yet no convictions happened.

Pakistan has unfortunately plagued by military rule ever since its inception except the period of Z A Bhutto's rule. Pakistan military is heavily politicised and some one at some time will have to take a drastic action to close ISI and other agencies which are the main culprits. The number of generals in this army have to be reduced drastically. The army must be accountable to the Parliament and should not be considered a 'sacred cow'. How come these military generals have made millions of dollars and are still busy sucking blood of the nation.

Benazir is now in Pakistan and Nawaz Sharif must be allowed to return to Pakistan and fair and transparent election be held and who ever wins should rule the country.

Judges are still hearing petitions against Musharaff's election and we sincerely hope that they disqualify this man who has destroyed the democratic institutions, attacked the judiciary and handed over province of Sindh to arch-terrorist Altaf Hussain who is masterminding terrorist activities from London, England and yet no action is being taken by the British authorities. Who knows MQM may also have been involved in Karachi bombings. everyone is blaming Al Qaida, Taleban and agencies and forgetting this murderous organisation.

It is utterly regrettable when a magazine like newsweek depicts such a false picture of the reality. It shows how ill informed they really are.

Benazir Bhutto is known as the most corrupt and self centric leader in Pakistan and Europe. She certainly bears no love for Pakistan.
Yes; she now returns to Pakistan under a guaranteed US protection umbrella and once again; will leave this country plundered and looted.

This is a good attempt of Newsweek to camouflage the American failure in Afghanistan and Iraq and shift the burdon on Pakistan. No doubt there are elements of militancy and extremism in Pakistan but who had created and supported them in the past especially in 1980s. Who gave the protocol of the head of state to Gulbadian Hikmatyar in Washington?

Newsweek never criticised the puppet government of Hamid Karazi who is only controlling Kabul with the help of American army and claim himself democratically elected preisdent. Today 90% of world opium output is coming from Afghanistan. Having just returned from Pakistan, I almost cannot believe that this column is about the same country I loved every minute being in. It just goes to show that politics of power, religious obscurantism, desperation born out of poverty and their subversion can create situations and circumstances which can reduce people anywhere in the world to misguided, misinformed angry missiles of destruction. US cannot absolve itself from its own role in being the funder and cheer-leader in the politics of hate around the world. Absolute Power. People with vested interests and terrifying selfish agendas seem to be benefiting immensely as this cult of intolerance and hate fans the world due to a lack of understanding, misinformation and irresponsible lop-sided media coverage. Politics of self-interest and an ever increasing gluttony and lust for resources - using people, culture, religion, countries as dispensable currency is the state of affairs in the world today. Where have all the tall leaders gone? Explain why US with its policies and its war in Iraq is not a Terrorist State and the most dangerous nation in the world - as much as this column seems to suggest that Pakistan is? It has the world's largest arsenal, resources and a trigger happy Presidency. None of this is meant to suggest that Pakistan does not face severe problems and a dangerous cocktail of religion with politics is being dished out to its fringes but solutions would have to come from within Pakistan itself and all it may need is one selfless leader with vision, determination and courage to take up its cause. By the way, the same in the US would do the world a lot of good. And while at it what time is it in India? Is Narendra Modi listening or is he sleeping?

Well no doubt Pakistan is through from a difficult situation over all but declaring it as the most dangerous country around the globe seems a little too much of a claim. Criticizing present events is easy but at times we should try to see the root cause as well.

A spell starting from a cold war between two countries.. a run to establish supremacy.. using other nations as weapons.. while UN and other organizations remain hijacked by the super powers.. and then a new thought hitting the great minds of thinkers ???why not use the available plot to get some oil???

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries are just the ???outcome???. For those who can recall and analyze the past ... it should not be difficult to name the country being the basic cause of the present situation of the world and to be declared as the most dangerous country for all other countries around the globe.

Most dangerous seems too exagerated. Pakistan is facing big problems in its fight towards extremism but the world should realize that this fight it will take time, changing state of minds is really difficult, one cannnot alter it with guns and tanks. Pakistan like all other sub-continent countries has a sizeable population which live under extreme poverty and do not have access to proper education at all. Being neighbours, people in northern parts of Pakistan have been greatly influenced by Afghanis and their version of Islam. This influence is causing great harm to Pakistan but the world should not tarnish the image of the nation as a whole. To generalize would be a mistake and conceal the progressive image of the rest of pakistani nation.

It is amazing how many Pakisanis commenting here insist on bringing India into their comments. The article barely focuses on India. The one thing that binds Pakistan together is hatred. Hatred of the West, hatred of India. If that goes the country may fall apart. Get over it guys. Indians really do not put so much mind space on Pakistan. Concentrate on your country and stop focussing on us.

I can only laugh on "Today no other country on earth is arguably more dangerous than Pakistan." We dont have any GREEN ZONE in pakistan. Green Zone world's most powerfull force hiding place is in Iraq.

The bright side is that these guys on the cover of NEWSWEEK have nicer, neatly trimmed beards in stark contrast to the Orthodox jews with scruffy beards that live in New York City where the decision to publish this story was made.
