There is truth and there are lies and then there are spins, of which Ron Moreau and Michael Hirsh seem to be masters. They have developed their story around some facts and portrayed Pakistan as the most dangerous country to be in, as if Iraq and Afghanistan are the most cherished tourist destinations. If Pakistan was founded on hate, what happened to Muslim migarting from India in 1947, why have more than 90,000 kashmiris been murdered by Indian Army or Police, why have the muslims been uprooted from muslim majority areas of Indian Occupied Kashmir and their complete demogarphy changed, why more than 2000 muslims were massacred in one day in Gujrat ay as the police stood by as silent spectators or even lending a helping hand to the perpetrators of this heinous crime. It is very easy to point fingers and accuse someone else. Agreed Pakistan is going through a rough patch but it is not something which we are unable to solve ourselves, we are a nation which has stuck through thick and thin and despite repeated efforts of our enemies to undo this great nation we continue to remain and remain we shall strong and vibrant.

Pakistan is a nation founded on hate, founded by hate and founded with hate - hate against Hindus initially, but now against all non-muslim nations, especially those affiliated or friendly with Uncle Sam. Yessir, this is the same Islamic Pakistan which, since its creation, has received billions upon billions of US taxpayers monies in economic and military aid, yet it is the most Anti-US country in the world, though, it comes to wanting 'greencards', Pakis would be pushing their way to get at the front of the line - hypocrites!
It's not for nothing that Pakistan is called the 'epicenter' of global Islamic terrorism. And despite her protestations to the contrary, Bhutto's your quintessential Paki politician, and no friend of India, nor has she any good intentions towards India, and even if elected Pak PM, she'll keep on supporting the same anti-India policies of her predecessors - tigers can't change their stripes nor leopards their spots - everything she says is purely for public consumption.

Hypocrites and Pakistanis...look at you own country first where more minorities have been killed than any place in the world in the disguise of "World's Largest Democracy". In no democracy, is a 16th century mosque razed under the command of country's to be home minister, 3000 Muslims massacred under the nose of the government. Is there any minority which has been spared of hate (Sikhs, Christians, or Muslims). Talk about hate- here is a reality check for you- which country in South Asia is at ODDs with all of it's neighbors and has a despute with each one of them ( Pakistan, China, Banglasdesh, Sri Lanka? A) India B) India c) India... get out of your fluff please.

its shocking how easy it is to manipulate information to attack a nation of over 160 million people by the actions of a few - is it fair to say that the perpetrator of the wars in the world right now - be it Iraq, Afghanistan or Palestine are all supported by Western powers and the leader of the Western Empire - USA? Do we call Americans extremists because a MAJORITY of them voted in a President for a second term who has only perpetrated wars around the world? No we don't. Why? Because it is easier to point fingers to a orientalized unknown that easily fits the description of "evil doers" in the minds of Western media. It is not so black and white. As each American cannot be held accountable for the action of a few - even those in the government that they elected - neither can a nation of 162 million be targetted and defamed in the name of a few who decide to use bombs to make their voice heard. How can an article with NO supporting evidence except for a few quotes from random people be used to justify such a senseless and shameful attack on a people that have suffered the inconsistency, violence and trauma of colonization and the subsequent partition, civil war and political turmoil. It truly disgusts me when i see how easy it is to write statements like "Pakistan is the most dangerous country in the world" without any real examination of the facts and an investigation of the roots of the problems - and the different kinds of resistance that are taking place by people to violence and chaos. There is so much positive in Pakistan that no one ever wishes to report - because if you did it would mean that there has to be an admittance that people from different parts of the world are equally complex, dynamic and difficult to capture in simple analogies of black and white as are Western countries. How shameful that education does not make us see the connection of history to the present and that racism and colonization continue to play such a strong role in how we allow certain things to be said about certain countries and never about others. Where is the truth, reason and so called objectivity in that?

Stop it yaar. Please first of all stop saying those people Muslims (Extrimists). Muslims are just muslims. and by the way its very simple to say that whats going on in Pakistan is all done by bla and bla. Are you from Pakistan do you know what the ground realities are. Its very simple to blame as i can simply blame that behind all that scene you are the culprist. Howz that will you agree. Who has started that WAR a country who can do anything protect anyone bu can't protect their own country hah... world trade centre. Please for GOD sake put yourself in others shoe first and then think that what you are saying is right or not. Be realistic and stop using the world Nation. The Nation is one who is fighting against the terrorism .

Please please first of all stop calling them Muslims. I mean who have given all of you the right to blame any religion. Those are Muslim Extremists bla and bla. Please Muslims are just muslims and nothing else.

Second thing before blaming someone make sure that r u in Pakistan to judge that whats going on there. its very simple to blame simply . As i can like what i think you are the one who is behind all this scene. Do you agree go through from the facts first. whatever you did is right atleast at some extent and what those people to whom you said muslims did all wrong for GOD sake.

with large number of man with shaved beard ,growing smoking habit, increasing alcoholism, rapid pace of adopting western culture and empty mosques ,people having no knowledge of religion even about basics this is the story of 97 % of pakistan (for proof check the video of bbc KARACHI UNCOVERED on youtube ).
i think its totally unjust and biased reporting by newsweek portraying only desired facts about pakistan.
the area pointed out by newsweek is only 3% of entire population and even from them the elements pointed out may be in thousands only .keep in mind dont play with satistics choosing a sample and applying on population try to represent the ground reality . we as a nation are strong enough to solve the domestic dicrepancies by dialogue and to nullify foreign manipulated and forged reporting by expressing and conveying our real image to all the world.sitting thousands miles away and taking satellite pictures may be just one click away but peeping into the hearts of people need time .all our nation is so loving ,caring and have sympathy for any kind of bloodshed around world irrespective of religion so next time report us as human not beasts .LONG LIVE PAKISTAN

The moral equals of founding fathers of the US, Thatchers best holy men and Zia's darling(s) were collectively hatched in the region to combat the communism and fight an Afghan war. The axis of 80's turned Pakistan into a militant state. As ignorant as it may, the journalist has completely failed to take into account the preposterous sin of western powers in creating these today's monsters. CIA funded war heroes, Mosad's trainee's, incubated in the rough terrains. The journalist may have facts, but the ability to analyse them is acutely wrong. This present war is not between the left and right, but amongst the right wing extremists themselves.
"Whisky swirling founder" bravely fought for the political, social, economic and religious rights of the muslims of the subcontinent. The bizzare journalist thinks that religion was used as a deception is a blunder thought, and a clear sign of a shallow historical reader. The elections of 1946 gave Jinnah's Muslim League sweeping majority and hence forth emerged Democratic Pakistan, later so unfortunate that military regimes came fully supported, loved, and smooched by western democratic nations.

Sweeping statements that Pakistan is more dangerous than any other country are one-sided, untrue and biased; what about Iraq, where 100+ people die daily? Your reporting is again one dimensional and incomplete. Recall that the Islamist extremists that you refer to as created by Pakistan, were created jointly by Pakistan's and USA's intelligence agencies in 1979 to fight the Russian invasion of Afghanistan, thereby ensuring that the US protected its interests through Pakistan in the Region. The so-called "Islamist" groups were then abandoned after USSR pulled out of Afghanistan. The USA failed to realise the fallout of abandoning a setup which had lost its raison d'etre after creating it, and which NEEDED reintegration into society through equal economic opportunity. Along with the EU, it slapped economic sanctions on Pakistan, slowing down its economy from 1998, and that allowed the militant forces to regroup. Subsequently, after 9/11, President Musharraf confirmed that Pakistan was coerced into partnering with the US by threats from the US Under Secretary of State that it would be 'bombed back to the Stone Age' if it did not do so. Pakistan needs to develop itself economically to absorb such groups productively, for which it needs reliable external partners for stability, not external coercion from a world power which allies itself, coerces, and then abandons its allied countries with no thought to the social consequences. We live in a global community where all our actions are like an interwoven tapestry, and reverberate at the other end of the world.

Shadowy reporting by a neoconic organization called Newsweek. Supporting a thoroughly corrupt politician and a dictator. Shame on Newsweek and the US.

I think it is clear by now that BB was not attack by the militants related to Waziristan or Al Qaeda. However, it was a sign of some strings being lose within the Musharraf camp. Now that he is moving towards his civilian role, he does not have absolute power anymore. Pakistan is indeed a country where leaders are mostly appreciated when they are tied to strong institutions. Pakistan has hardly produced a leader of nationalist approach other than Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. However, no one is perfect in their own way. Eventually, no leader has gone by themselves. Instead, they have always been removed from power or this world. Then we found good leaders in some ways in Ayub Khan. He had a pro-American stance but he was not a pet like the ruling elite today. It is seriously a sad situation in many ways but eventually I believe that Pakistan will witness a revolution. Because no matter what, the majority of Pakistan are still silent. It is just a matter of time. (http://pakcentric.blogspot.com)

I am 67 years old. I am living in Pakistan since my birth. Pakistan is as safe or unsafe as any other country. Of course the suicide bombings are on the increase but the responsibilty lies with west and westernised Pakistani politicians. Who asked Benazir to targert Abdul Qadeer khan, Maulana azhar Masood, Osama, Taliban al qaeda, and Dawood Ibrahim. If she is working for India and west the reaction will be as we saw in Karachi. It may be Baituallh but it may be Dawood Ibrahim or it may be India. I think if it were Baitullah's men they would not have targeted by standers. She was brought extended terrorism to Pakistan. All these people that she is targeting are very powerful and extremely dangerous and may not let BB get to the corridors of powers . These people are not anti Pakistan but are misguided people . They have to motivated to shun killing habits and live as peaceful human beings. For that not only a lots of funds are required but a carefully orchestrated re- education program is also imperative. She might have pleased the West and India by her rhetoric but not not Pakistani intelligentia.

This article is full of BS. Bhutto can use this attack to get score in Elections. During her previous regime her brother was killed. Don't put everything on Islamist try to understand the realities.

ok everyone needs to lay off a little. no matter what goes wrong, everyone finds a way to blame islam for it. its the easiest excuse these days, "oh wanna create some political hype, lets blow something up and blame islamists...", "hey we need a new marketing, strategy, lets kill a few people and blame islamists..." its the 'in' thing these days. and thats exactly what bhutto did. she got that blast done herself, to gain public sympathies and votes, because she is the only person who has benefitted from the aftermath. how is she a threat to al-qaeda, that they would be so hot and bothered to try and kill her? she is not even in a position of power! it was a political stunt, she threw a bait, and everyone fell for it. and just like that everyone on this forum found themselves another excuse to go on ranting about how evil islam, or america, or everything else is. while the real criminal is very smugly getting away without being noticed.

This article is stretching the imagination, no sensible person can write such a story comparing Pakistan to Afghanistan and Iraq. The authors do not seem to be aware about ground realties and have made hasty generalizations. The masterminds of 9/11 were roaming freely in Hamburg not in Pakistan before the attacks, the London bombers were moving freely in London prior to 7/7 and not in Pakistan. I didn't see Newsweek make general comparisons then. One fails to understand this obesession and misreporting about Pakistan. Is there any problem in Punjab, Pakistan where 60 % of 160 milliion Pakistanis live ? How many Pakistani citizens have ever been involved in deadly attacks against the West? Compare that number to the Saudis, Jordanians, Iraqis, Lebanese and the Taliban and yet Pakistan is the most dangerous place... hystericall!!

agree with you a 100% that we need to unite coz we are paying the price for not being so. question arises how? i think we need to get over our endless and mindless prejudices...just think divided we "terrorise" the americans so much...if we unite then how will they feel...if this is not incentive enough then i don't know what is.

No help is not what we need the rich only care about themselves . We might as well be the british in the 18th century we are just waiting for someone to dominate us. We need to UNITE as a people and stop playing games. the time for games has ended, call it an end to innocence we need to UNITE. we are divided more than i think even the enemy knows. our mistakes and failures need to be recognized. Otherwise let us fade. For the out the ability to see our sucesses and our failures, we can not suceed.
