http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangladesh please look this up and educate yourself on what the situation was, india would not tollerate being bordered by Pakistan on both sides and very publicly supported the civil war with their allies at the time the USSR. Hardly an unchecked slaughter. Anyone who was there in Bangladesh at the time would clearly remember that due to the logistical problems the Pakistan army was unable to large full scale military assaults as people claim, the atrocities carried out unfortunately so were regardless of religion, race and sadly age.
Oh yes Bravo on raising this chatter to a higher plane I just wish people googled the info and did not entirely miss the point, ad hominem arguments really just accentuate the fact that unfledged vilification is the only resort for the baffled mind.

Please, please don't quote Wiki. Any one can write anything there.

      • Posted By: ziamirza @ 11/09/2007 11:40:40 PM

The reason for quoting wiki was that even in the most common sources of information the facts that you have so conveniently ommited are so plainly pointed out. Please dont blame the source if the content proves you wrong. There was no ethnic reason to the war, just political motivation.

Accepted hinduisim is a very complex.. some might say too complex, but this just goes to show how a small isolated aspects can misrepresent religion and politics. So people should not blame a nation and their people or religion without keeping this in mind

The fact remanins that they were highly educated indians who were terror suspects. Maybe the outdated education system that Arjun singh has vowed to change should concentrate on not turning their proffesional medical students and engineers into brain washed terrorists. I knew that in most countries the illetrate and uneducated can be easily influenced into giving up their lives, now i know that an entire nation can be gullible.

Unfortunately the two Muslim brothers, Indian nationals were misled. It will interest you to know that their parents worked in Saudi Arabia and the boys were radicalised while studying there mainly under the influence of the father ( against oppositon of the mother). They had no compunctions about getting their cousin in trouble, who studied in India and was working in Australia. The source of trouble is again- Saudi Arabia.

Indian muslims are largely peaceful and very well integrated- be it a Sania Mirza or a Sharukh Khan or an Azeem Premji. Excellent role models for all of us.

Musharafs sole concern is not to retain power it is to protect the people from the politicians who plague the country. The Taliban or whatever you call them were very mucha part of the political system during democracy with their blessing and support. Musharaf is not a dictator he is the person to put a stop to the politicians who would have made Pakistan bankrupt and run away to the comfort of their multibillion dollar investments in the UAE and saudi. Please dont compare Saddam and Musharaf the former being a well exposed experiement of the U S gone wrong, while Musharaf is a honorable solider doing what he is trained to do protect his nation by all means necessary.

  • Posted By: Shujaulmlk @ 11/07/2007 11:26:16 PM

Musharaf 's sole concern is how to retain power. The so-called Taliban have the tacit approval of the ISI and MI.Terrorism is the health of the Pakistani Generals as the war is of the U.S.The dual and dubious policy of the U.S is also greatly responsible for terrorism. They love dictators like Musharaf but hate the democratically elected president of Iran. The only difference between Musharaf and Saddam is that, the former is cunning

Comment: Somethings for the illeterate and uneducated to think about-

1)Pakistan and most of the developing countries are not keen to service the west they do so out of fear of being labelled terorist nations and having to face military force of massive super powers such as the U.S., countries at Pakistans throat waiting for a slip up such as india would gladly be at the forefront of giving western powers all access and facilities to reduce this nation to rubble.

2)Nobody ???consoles??? themselves with incidents like this but it happens all around the world, educated indian doctors carry out bombings in London, is india not big enough to vent your frustrations that you have to discredit the sub continent overseas : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6907888.stm.

3)The government has been ???wasting??? money on containig the politicians private pets who have been sustained on the peoples money to rally suport for them and do their dirty work and have now emerged as powerfull and well equipped war lords.
4)The constitution is based on an ideology for the good of the people and as long as the military is in power the good of the people will be the prime priority. Are we really that far from our neighbours who have convicts, illetrate and villagers in parliament.

I too can go on and on....

Lastly: the author of this article must really get their facts straight and stop with the racist ranting.

What Indian doctors are going around bombing UK transport system?
These wanna be terrorists are implicated in the car bomb at Glasgow airport were probably acting in concert with the Islamic militants.
They just happened to be Indian citizens but not acting for any Indian cause, they are linked with the Jihadists. Nothing to do with India but everything to do with the religious Islamic zealots.

This was reported by BBC News:
Dr Haneef, 27, was arrested at Brisbane Airport. An Indian national, he was detained while trying to board a plane to India with a one-way ticket.
He was charged on 13 July with providing support to a terrorist organisation.
Dr Haneef studied medicine at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore between 1997 to 2002, achieving a second-class degree.
His family comes from a small town 250km outside Bangalore and his late father was a teacher.

His cousins are Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed. Dr Mohammed Haneef is the cousin of Sabeel and Kafeel Ahmed , Dr Haneef had been working as a senior house officer at the Gold Coast Hospital since September 2006.
Before that, he worked at Halton Hospital in Cheshire.
      .
      KAFEEL AHMED

The second man detained at Glasgow Airport was named as Kafeel Ahmed. He had suffered burns to 90% of his body when he was arrested and died from his injuries on 2 August.
The 27-year-old, from Bangalore, India, was one of two men detained at the airport after a burning car, packed with propane gas canisters, was driven into the terminal building.

Kafeel Ahmed had suffered 90% burns when he was arrested.
He died in a specialist burns unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he had been kept under armed guard.
It emerged that contrary to earlier reports, Mr Ahmed was not a medic but an engineer with a PhD in design and technology.
His brother is Dr Sabeel Ahmed. , 26, who was arrested near Liverpool's Lime Street station on 30 June and was charged under the Terrorism Act on 14 July.
He appeared again at the Old Bailey, via video link, on 5 October and was remanded back into custody.
His mother, has told the BBC that her son is second cousin to Dr Haneef. And she said her son followed Dr Haneef to Britain to work.

These crazy cousins should have stuck to healing not bombinmg...but religious fanaticism can unhinge the best minds.

What Indian doctors are you talking about? Don't confusr he citizenship of these three doctors with the motives. Notice the names.
These three cousins are from doctors from India, two were implicated in the Glasgow airport bombing. Now what makes you think it had anything to do with India? What is the motive?
What do you think is the probability that these three cousins were wanna be terrorist?

      Found this on BBC website:
Dr Haneef, 27, was arrested at Brisbane Airport. An Indian national, he was detained while trying to board a plane to India with a one-way ticket.

Dr Haneef had worked at Halton Hospital in Cheshire, later employed in Australia.
      KAFEEL AHMED
The second man detained at Glasgow Airport was named as Kafeel Ahmed. He had suffered burns to 90% of his body when he was arrested and died from his injuries on 2 August.

Many thanks for educating me that East Pakistan is now called Bangaladesh. I see that you missed the barb entirely. Good. A thick skin helps survive the rigors of life better. Incidentally, a civil war is when both sides kill each other. When one side butchers the other, as West Pakistani's did to East Pakistani's ( yes- now Bangladesh), it is called a 'pogrom' or 'genocide'. Since both countries were Muslim, this pograom could only have been carried out for racial reasons.

Re caste system- I have many Pakistani Punjabi friends where I live. Not one would dream of getting their daughter married to a Afghan Muslim or a Muslim convert from a lower caste. sad, but true. We all have our diseases.

It seems that if America is capable of turning around the insurgency in Iraq, which we appear to be doing slowly, then Pakistan should be capable of routing the Taliban from its borders. Pakistanis were attempting to manipulate the Taliban, but as happens when one creates a monster, it turns on its master. Now, the Taliban is infecting Pakistan like a cancer. Time for some serious chemo, no matter how bad it hurts. As for Musharraf, he is part of the problem. These militants were his buddies just 10-15 years ago when he sent them into Kargil to kill Indians. How can he possibly be a saviour for Pakistan? Pakistan's best hope is to get rid of him and vote in a legitimate government that has real credentials to battle extremism. Let's see the people of that country do what is right, rather than what is easy. America is willing to help.

Newsweek magazines article on Pakistan reminds me of the movie STAR WARS. Luke Skywalker (Pakistan) is faced with the DARK LORD and DARTH VADER simultaneously. If Luke were to vent his anger, he would go to the DARK SIDE. If he didn't, he would die anyway. Eventually, DARTH VADER would save the day for him by destroying the DARK LORD. Which one are you, the DARK LORD or DARTH VADER.

The excessive ignorance is so amusing. East Pakistan is a well known country called Bangladesh. Civil war has all kinds of atrocities let???s take a more recent reference of history ??? The Us soldiers in Iraq sexually abused the people they were liberating and protecting. This is racial reasons by the same developed country that boasts racial integration and the protectors of freedom.

Liberal education is knowing that most of the mahajirs in Pakistan still consider india to be like an ancestral home, most of us will not consider to this to be out of place. The ???posters??? seem to have touched on a nerve. Discussions such as these are everywhere why did Ash get married to that dud Abishek, people were devastated!!

Some Pakistanis may be from the gene pool but wake up every morning not to be associated with india, a country associated with poverty, an ancient caste system, overpopulated cities and phallus worshipping a common thing. I would take my chances with the Arabs.

China: Some brilliant mind here asks for a comparison between India and China. Please find out China treats Uighur Turks ( your fellow Muslims). They get them drunk and shot en masse. It is well documented- check with any Turkish person.

Should we take Chinese- Taiwanese relations as a template? Taiwan, a tiny advanced country is forever threatened by China and dubbed a 'renegade republic'. Wake up to China and Saudi Arabia.

Somethings for Pakistani's to think about-
    1) Why is Pakistan always keen to service the West- examples fight in afdghanistan, raising Taliban, after indpendence prepared to become a sattelite of US. All this shows you have always lacked self confidence and do not have much intelligence. Don't you know nothing comes for free and that without being strong first, by getting too close to the wolves, you will be compromising your independence.
    2) YOu guys are all Muslims, yet killing each other all along in your entire history- total negation of 2 nation theory and Jinnah and Iqbal. Nothing of that sort happens in India. Do not console yourself by thinking of isolated Indian incidents like Gujarat and Sikh riots.
    3) YOu guys do not appear to be civil as you do not have any worthwhile national poverty alleviation or growth programs. YOur governmnetshave been wasting the money and resources. In this matter, you are no better than a banana country.
    4) You have not had a constitution for a long time since early 70's or may be even earlier. Constitution is a fundamental building block upon which all other edifices are built including value systems and pride in civility and national service. In my opinion, Pakistani's will have to start from teh scratch. It will take many generations to change the corrupted mindset built over last 60 years.

I can go on and on....

    • Posted By: karaswart @ 11/07/2007 5:27:04 AM

The West Pakistani's keep forgetting the large scale butchery of the East Pakistani's in 1970-71. The famous professional army raped , pillaged and murdered their own country men and fellow Muslims by the thousands. Why? Bcause of racial reasons. This is not a fantasy, this is recent recorded history.

Jinnah's daughter saw through her father's utopia and returned back asap. One of the actresses they insult in a post here is getting married to Jinnah's great grandson in Mumbai. Touche! The posters here can only insult and insinuate. Not discuss. I guess the lack of a liberal education is the reason.

But still, they are from our gene pool. Misguided about stupid things like religion. You can change 7 religions in a week, but not your identity. Sadly this lot has been misled by stupid Arabs. If you have Saudi Arabia as a hero---not much hope.

Ms. saminazafar! The fact that there is status quo ante before and after a coup by a military leader does not say anything complimentary of the state of affairs in a country, the contrary would be true. The article, if nothing else, is objective and for the most part true. If its a bunch of lies, all you need to do is point out the untrue parts, right?

Mr./Ms. karaswart ! Return to the fold, prodigal progeny? Really, do we really want it back?

Pakistan - the utopian view. Democracy flourishes. 21 PM's in 37 years of freedom and 23 years of martial rule. Elections are probably the national pastime. Martial rule each time somebody sneezes, military is alive and well. Now, losing 3 wars is and not being successful in almost any gainful endeavor known to man ( I said, gainful endeavor, stealing technology from the West, promoting terrorism, etc. don't count ) are just the fates. Now, a country which promptly lost half of itself in about fifteen years of self rule and then kept a relatively plentiful natural resource mass, and still poor as dirt, needs to really highlight , and I mean, really highlight, some of the " successes " it had, wouldn't you agree?

RaniaM ji! Beauty, as is decency and so follows indecency, is in the beholder's eye in this case, don't you think? Eductaed enough ? ;-) All you have to do , is " educate " us if anything we say is untrue or we sound particularly prejudiced. Just fire away. People who speak in generalities do so because they lack the substance to address issues specifically. It'd be fun, if you could refute even one of the facts above. But then, that's the quality of the mind where you come from.

Ms/Mr Kara, you don't even realise that Pakistan is Pakistan, how could a sensible person pose comments like "0.5 Pakistan"?. In that case what would you say about your country :) ?
what will you call "non-mess" India since 1947?
You are calling your Punjabi and Sindhi "brother" to come back to India, very funny. You want them to be killed like others went through in Gujrat state? , in your 'peaceful' ,heaven, called India?
Tell you what? your Punjabi and Sindhi "brothers' don't like to even spit on you. :)
Long Live Pakistan. The only Pakistan

Sweetheart: This guy goes on and on about Gujrat. What about the pogrom committed on East Pakistanis by our beloved army? Thousands were killed and raped- all muslim- all your contrymen. Gujarat was an abomination but to listen to homilies from you is a bit much.

I have not crticised any of you. All I keep saying is that our ( not mine) motherland was unfortunately divided under Arab influence. Millions died. To what avail. Jinnah's daughter herself came back to India and his grandson is an extremely successful businessman in India. Come back...

        • Posted By: trishi @ 11/06/2007 1:11:45 PM

Most of the "jerks" do deserve it. As to whether there are any decent educated Indians out there, the world knows the answer. I can imagine, of course, after trying very very hard' how it must be like to not have a free press and to not know where the world's at.

Now, coming to this wonderful country, why don't we simply just tell these guys all the wonderful things about this country called " Pakistan " , which changes constitutions like, " nappies "was it? which has in its lifetime has gained name and fame for losing half their coountry, has had its leaders assassinated most of the time, where people are dying of hunger each day, who recruits and facilitates terrorists and terrorist activities, whose leaders can be bought and why, for that matter, the whole nation can be bought for a few billion dollars or rented, at least whenevr somebody needs a base to fly a few planes out of.

Just all ears to listen to all the positive stuff about this absolute utopia ;-)

    • Posted By: karaswart @ 11/05/2007 11:27:26 AM

Old chap: Gujarat was not good. But it is not even a very tiny fraction of the rape and murder committed by the Pakistani army on their fellow countrymen the erstwhile East Pakistanis, now Bangladeshis. How do you explain that? They killed millions of fellow Muslim East Pakistanis.

Also we will be cleaning our backyard soon.....By the way, we call it INDIA.

Unlike Indians, we Pakistanis do not need to worry about sikhs and radical sepratist Hindu parties who are eager to divide India. Oh by the way, if you did not know, we Pakistanis' sent them......HA HA. Pin it on us, 'coz we have begun to enjoy it. We in Pakistan are very upset with the way western media is projecting the image of our country to the rest of the world. I live in a compound where a large number of foreigners live (anglo saxen and oriental people) and i see them walking around in the streets, shopping in malls and living thier lives as usual. Had Pakistan been such a dangerous place the first thing foreign embassies do is pull out thier nationals, apparently they haven't done that, so please dont feed people around the world this hose *** that my home land is the most insecure and unstable country!
The western media is only potraying what they think is happening in Pakistan, projecting minority incidents as if it is the way of life here.. even after the imposition of emergency i do not see people living any differently..
No hell has broken lose in Pakistan, please do not publish such articles and damage the image of my home land!

What unites Pakistan is intense hatred towards India and Hindus. There is no Pakistan without India. Period. India on the other hand is a world in itself made of multitude of ethnicities and languages co-existing peacefully with eachother that has nothing to do with existence or non-existence of. any other nation. You can call it the advanced form of European Union. Pakistan could not sustain itself from the beginning itself and lost Bangladesh unlike India which has lost no territory to sectarian groups yet and will not lose any either. Now many people across the world think Pakistan is the most dangerous nation which is supposed to be the case since it's born out of hatred and that is what keeps it alive.

We were told that if a dog barks at you, you should not start doing the same in reply and continue your journey. So, I think thats exactly we need to do while you ( Mr/Ms Karaswart) continue your .........

There's an interview with Philip Oldenburg at Columbia is which he disagrees with this story, calling the threat "overblown."

???I don???t think Pakistan is dangerous. It???s not going to send waves of terrorists into the world,??? Oldenburg says. ???There???s an implication there that it could explode or implode in some fashion, that we could have a jihadist takeover and you could have some Ahmadinejad or someone like this taking over and doing things. I don???t see that either.???
