I do agree with the author that Pakistan is posing to be one of the most dangerous nations of the world. But frankly, so is USA. Pakistan is headed for a major break down politically, socailly and democratically. The security of its nationals is under jeopardy. But it does not mean that an external body, like the US intervene in the working of the nation. An external body of independent and impartal leaders, who understand the culture of this nation should help sort the problems of that Pakistan is facing. For Pakistan, terrorism is only a bi-product of extreme poverty, political instability etc. the time is ticking fast to retrieve the nation from going into the shackles of terrorism.

Comment: I think it is interesting that, upon seeing:: "Newsweek: World's Most Dangerous Nation" on the MSN homepage, my first thought was: The United States. Granted, other countries certainly are dangerous in that they kill and maim citizens of other countries. Some, like Pakistan, do atrocious things to their own citizens. Lest anyone reading this
suppose that I agree with Muslim violence, extremism and terrorism against the U.S (or
any other country), I assure you that that is not the case. If a country, or a group of people
from a given country attack the U.S., the U.S should do all that it can to bring those
responsible to justice or go through the proper channels outlined by the Constitution to
declare war, if that is what Congress deems appropriate. My point is that the U.S. is not
without fault and, while it has helped and continues to help many people in many nations
around the globe, it also has been and is responsible for death and carnage in other countries as well. Iraq is but one example. To say that Pakistan is the most dangerous
country in the world because of the recent violence there, the presence of Muslim extremists and the possibility of certain factions obtaining a nuclear (a word a our President
cannot seem to pronounce) weapon is not without validity. However, in looking at America's
responsibilty for the deaths of between 100,000 and 500,000 citizens of Iraq, it should give
one pause to consider our country's actions. We essentially let Bin Ladin escape at Tora
Bora, and have yet to bring him to justice. We bomb the hell out of a country that was no
threat to us - imminent or otherwise - and had no WMD's, then we sell $20,000,000 worth
of weapons to Saudi Arabia whose citizens made up the greatest percentage of the 19 terrorists on the planes on 9/11/01. It seems counter-intuitive to kill people in any country
to keep them from attacking us, or wanting to. And, as far as nuclear weapons are concerned, the U.S. still has, far and away, the greatest number. Might it be that after the
demonstration of our ignorant and stupid foreign policy in Iraq that other countries simply
are endeavoring to protect themselves as they wonder: "Who will Bush attack next, and
why?". I would recommend reading "Blowback", by Chalmers Johnson.

Have you looked arround lately?Are you sure Pakistan is the most dangerous country in the world? Is it the most dangerous for the United States of America or for the rest of the world? Isn't it frightening to know that theres ONE country that can invade others while the others can do nothing but watch how it happens? Don't you think the most dangerous countries are those who are killing our planet and don't care about it (a planet that belongs to us all, I dare to say)? Is Pakistan the only one with: "trusted network of radical Islamists, an abundance of angry young anti-Western recruits, secluded training areas, access to state-of-the-art electronic technology, regular air service to the West and security services that don't always do what they're supposed to do"? Have you look arround lately?

If Pakistan is really what this article makes it out to be, a very safe haven for the jihadists/extremists/suicide bombers/terrorists or whatever you want to call it, why is it America's best ally in the war against terrorism? At least in the Middle East arena.... Whoever commented that Philippines is similar to Pakistan is dead wrong. Even though it's clear that the religion of the two countries are only similar mostly if you go to the deep south of Philippines where most Muslims live and Philippines does not have all the intricate training camps for terrorists that mountainous Pakistan has. Philippines also has no border countries like Afghanistan so it's harder to enter the country unless you have a pretty good water vessel. I just hope that there will be peace one day in this part of the world (Pakistan) and people won't be in fear to travel there so they can truly admire the beauty of the country and its people.

one really has to question the judgement and wisdom of Benazir Bhutto who, despite knowing that there may be an assasination attempt, risked the lives of her party workers by insisting on a procession from the airport while herself riding in an armoured vehicle. Now she is using the bomb blasts as publicity for herself. If she had any shame, she would take responsibility for what has happened.

It's a shame to see this brain-washing and witch-hunting being implemented by the media. It's so easy and convenient to put finger on the enemy and blame him in everything and be full of holy anger! Condemning Islamists and claiming equality between Islam and terrorism is a dirty game inspired by US political establishment. This is a trick which we have seen many times before. Hitler also liked this approach - to condemn whole nation. What american government is doing now, with the support of "free" press, is not any better. You can not blame religion, you can't judge people by their religious identity or by being citizens of particular country or part of particular culture.
What is going now in the Islam countires is a response to US agressive policy in the world, to it's arrogance and desire to manage the whole world. The response is always a violence. Those who want to manage the world are always yearning for war while blaming others in it.
I believe that US president and most af current american establishment are not any better than islamist bombers and in many senses they are much worse because they cover their greed and rasism with the references to democracy, and doing this they discredit the idea of democracy and make the world more dangerous and unstable.

It is a bit rash to flagarantly call Pakistan the most dangerous place. Have you ever visited the country? The world today is not a peaceful place generally, so why single out one country and label it . Pakistan is not in terrorist hands.....Would you be as generous to describe countries like Phillippines in same words, which probably have similar if not worse problems. The problem of militancy and extremism no doubt exists, but not to a level it is being touted by the westerm media and the USA. Sadly, we have a President who secures his non-democratic position by painting a very passionate Islamist image. As a resident Pakistani I vouch that we live in fairly peaceful, stable nd modern set-up as any other country in the world. Therefore to skim the surface and come up with irresponsible harsh statements about another's country does not invoke respect for the type of journalim you are practicing. A good article does not need to sensationalize the subject to find readership

All the problems arise because Pakistan tries to be the "most" islamic nation in the world by harbouring and nurturing retrograde islam practiced in arabia few centuries ago. This is due to a specific reason. Pakistanis will be Indians if they are not muslims. They have a great identity crisis going for them. There was no pakistan few decades ago. But they were part of Indian civilization for millenia which cannot be washed away overnight. The Punjabis and Sindhis of Pakistan are being spoiled by the constant warmongering Pathan and Baluch Tribals who don't have have any civilization of their own.
