It obviously disturbs some jihadis who see their entire world being outlined in a magazine. There is no shame in causing fanatics to uncloak their hostile nature while hiding the rest of the time behind the skirts of liberals. Newsweek needs to do another expose' on CAIR. There is no reason to have a covert front group for radical Islam in America. Thanks to a decent spy program we know who is up to no good before they do too much harm and recruiting. Spain and England have also learned the lesson the hard way. Islam is not all cuddly and cute , it does have teeth.

Its Newsweek after all. They are known for publishing BS. Otherwise who the hell is going to buy the damn thing. They need to make a buck or 2. How many times have we seen Newsweek apologizing for an inaccurate report. However the apology is done in a small corner in the back pages.

By publishing this picture on the cover page a lot of ppl will be buying it.

Due to irresponsible reporting like that instance when NEWSWEEK set off a wave of deadly anti-American riots in Muslim World by making up a story that U.S. interrogators had desecrated the Qur???an while interrogating Muslim terror suspects. Ohhh by the way this is the same story that Imran khan used to gain his 2 minutes of fame. News week apologized again in the back pages. They had no evidence to back up this story.

Newsweek has blood on its hands. Blood on its desks. So this story on Pakistan being the most dangerous place in the World???paper seller nothing else. Read it ???use it as toilet paper and forget about it.

I believe this year they will again be the top contenders for Dishonest Reporting 'Award' for 2007.

It amaze me! Seriously it does. American which at times claim to spot everything/everywhere with their satellites are so helpless against Osama Bin Ladin! I mean seriously, with the technology so mature i wonder if someone can hide for so long. They don't even know where he is? (American's claim, to which i strongly disagree) I agree there are some (ok, read many) problems in Pakistan specially terrorism but we need to look at the bigger picture sort out the fundamental cause. Bombing won't solve anything. Americans with all their might have failed miserable against the Talebans and Iraqis so please stop pointing fingers and help each other! The only difference in Pakistan's war and American's war is that American's have taken it abroad while Pakistan was not so lucky! They both are losing this battle.
What really confuses me is the constant source of weapons to these people! If all the countries are so UNITED in this war against terror i wonder where this heavy ammunition comes from? We all are hypocrats we can sort this problem but some of us really dont want too!

I compliment Newsweek for telling the whole world what has been known to many of us here in the sub continent. Pakistan, rather a tiny element of its establishment, is the ally of the US in its war against global terror , only because it had no other option after 9/11. Pakistan was and is the real epicenter of global terror, as I have been saying for long, http://vinodksharma.blogspot.com/search/label/pakistan

well i would say bullshit. its not lowering pakistan's image but news week image. it shows how immature and idiot editors are sitting in the office of news week. i dont know till when american authorities and media will make fool out of their peoples. the said two institutions have made the lives of their people miserable. the way you are showing image of the world to them they will be even terrorized while living in their homes.
as far as jehadis are concernd it was created by America to finish USSR, at that time they were their heros, to whom they provided ammunation. but now they have become their enimies cz the job is done.
to news week cmon be truthful. it creating more n more distance between east and west which will have a very bad effect in the days to come

  • Posted By: westisbest @ 10/30/2007 4:48:50 PM

Pakistan has long been producing jehadis trained and armed to cause destruction in neighbouring India, where people have suffered massively, they started first trying Islamise Kashmir, and used jobless Kalashnikov weilding Afghan jehadis against India in Kashmir. Their biggest jehadi leader Maulana Masud Azhar and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (mastermind of 9/11) was the ones released by India to Pakistan when their Indian Airline plane was highjacked to Kandhar. Both these jehadis worked freely in Pakistan after their release from Indian jails. Omar was caught later on charges of beheading Daniel Pearl, and later was sent to Guantanamo when he confessed masterminding 9/11. They were both creation of Pakistan. Pakistan is happy when these jehadis strike outside Pakistan, but now they are demanding their dues, and this is where the international community is worried, that these jehadi terrorists will soon take over with help from their supporters in ISI and army.

i have just read all the comments made by my fellow readers. some liked the article some dont. well for myself i saw the cover page and then i read the names of the writer? so anyways the thing is editors like these fellow brothers get paid to insult and to portray bigger picture. its their job, so what can we do besides chanting hatred against them. humm well they did the damage already being second largest newsletter in the U.S people who dont know nothing about Pakistan will be ready to vote for invasion of Pakistan we cant change their minds but what we can do is to ask intelectuals and writers whose letters get published all over the world to reply to this edition.now it doesnt mean Pakistan has no problem at all obviously something is wrong thats why we are witnessing suicide attacks everyday or so. but like our writers said that taliban or al-qaida can get nukes through their backyard AKA Pakistan then why are they fighting and killing their own muslim brothers? Remember readers radical islam is an "ideology" its not a true religion. ISLAM in its entity is a true religion. and those who compare "QUR'AN to extremism and terrorism should read it first before making any comments.

Many Pakistanis see this article as a criticism from the west. What they fail to see is that Pakistan has slipped to the top 20 nations of failed states in the world; sharing its place with the lawless states in the African continent. For decades, Pakistan has received billions of dollars from international community for its welfare. All it has become is a haven for terrorists creating instability in the region and in the world.

For past 60 years, rulers of Pakistan have lived by their 'Allah, Army and America' foreign policy. That means a religious state with Islam as its ideology; presence of a standing army ready to fight against its arch rival India and America as a patron to pay for the military's misadventures. The terrorists (or freedom fighters as Pakistan likes to call them) in collusion with elements of the army have perfected a cheap way to fight and bleed soviets in Afghanistan and Indians in Kashmir. Now, the same terrorists have turned in to Frankiestein's monster killing Pakistanis.

I am not a journalist nor have i ever taken a class in journalism, however common sense governs that journalism hold a responsibilty to divulge accurate information to its stakeholders. Your recent article on Pakistan was cocktail of propaganda, sensationalim and rhetoric. Such concocted journalism does nothing to alleviate prevalent stigmas and stereotypes against Pakistan. I believe more and more that your primary goal is to fan the fire of hatred in your readers minds with your twisted opinions and presenting them as facts. While all is not right in Pakistan, you fail to pinpont the cultural dynamics and rootcause underpinning these problems.

The arcticle discusses in great length the dichotomy existing in Pakistan between the Islamic radicals and the dwindling moderates, however you fail to inform your readership of feudalism, landlordism, which inhibits people from getting proper education, and thus alienating a growing number of illiterate people and forcing them into an indentured lifestyle. It is the socio-economic factors in Pakistan that lead some to blindly take this course of destruction. Having to contend with Islamic radicalization and with issues developing countries face, Pakistan is in a uniquely compromising position. However despite these hurdles Pakistan has sustained rapid economic growth over the past 4-5 years. I don't ask you to paint a rosy picture of Pakistan, i'm sure that is against your agenda, but atleast paint a holistic one.

I am extremely very sorry for your mind who took the words of such corrupt and infamous couple to make your top story about a country who is "US's strongest non-NATO ally??? and throwing totally untrue n crippled face of a country who were there with US as a first line country against invading USSR and in war again terrorism. And yes, if Pakistan is now dangerous then it is because of being strongest Ally against war on terrorism and this Jihad is against ""Pakistan" not by Pakistan. If Mussahraf is so infamous, why USA is granting Huge aid to a country where there is nothing more than anarchy and YES, Jihad. One thing is that Taliban are created by ISI but by the capital and armed aid from USA against USSR. Its not Pakistani leaders who created this group, it is created by US's think tanks that used it in cold war against USSR. What Pakistan faces now a days like political instability and heroine culture , terror attacks is due to being US???s most reliable friend and Taliban which is now a most fatal cancer of this world emerged as a consequence of US left blood soaked and rotten n civil warred Afghanistan after End of cold war.
I will advice you to please consider some truth and history of something before displacing your emotions on top stories .Because irresponsible words may have serious consequences in the time to come for 160 million innocent people and yes, please stop imprinting peoples mind with your poor and truth less flagrant negative side of pictures

I just wonder whether Newsweek is a picture of an unbiased and reponsible press figure.? Yes, the large number of westerners are the source of ifinite bucks to this US based press but does your cover stories also need to project negative and biased thought patterns to be sold only what you want to listen. Do you feel any responsiblity on your part?. In this modern world , I think Press has got an enormous responsibility to be unbiased and truthful becasue it not only changes the ideas of people around the world but also effect on large scale the foreign policies of several countries. Is there any one in your press who feels this way that such articles may ignite the world politics to attack upon a country whose people are already shedding their blood for terrorism , not a result of their deeds.
what i figure out about Ron Moreou is, presenting a sympathetic picture of " Most failed ruler of south asian history" , called by the INSTITUTE OF south asian studies, washington USA, using words of a man Asif Zardari who has been under investigations for 160 Billion Dollar corruption charges by the Worlds 5most prestigious Countries' Courts and the words of a lady who had flew away afraid of being charged of "abusing power as a Prime Minister "and didnot look back for 8 Years living her life in luxury of "Serray castle" london made by the Money laundering. I just wonder , Your such Jounalist doesnot know these facts , and took their words as a cover story for so called well renowned and pretigious, NEWSWEEK. No matter how they are manupulating worlds' thoughts by gathering sympathies from who dont know "Mr and Mrs. 10 %" like your journalist, MR. Ron Moreou.
Did he know anything about recent history of south asia , especially Pakistan, for whom he was granted to write about. Or he is just writing to gather sympathies about the ex-prmeier couple who fled after leaving "Her dear motherland at the verge of Bank Corruptsy" Does your press care about 136 innocent people who lost their lives used by Benazir Bhutto to change the direction of world's thinking and here your press' s direction. She didnot know before calling for her GREAT RECEPTION that it might cost so many dear lives.

OH...REALY KM???? WHO DO YOU THINK IS THE REAL MASTERMIND BEHIND IT ALL??? IT'S ALLWAYS THE JEWS AND THE ALL BAD U.S. RIGHT?
SINCERELY YOURS, THE TRUE WETERN ZIONIST!!!!!!

    " THE ZIONIST "

  • Posted By: IED2 @ 10/30/2007 9:39:45 PM

REALY KM???? AND WHO MIGHT THAT MASTERMIND BE ??? :(

  • Posted By: KMas @ 10/30/2007 9:20:42 PM

This article is most certainly writen by the zionist with their own agenda in mind who have been perpetrating and plotting against islam for centuries. All of the atrocities conducted every day by Israel against Palestinians are never or seldom reported or talked about. The facts are that they are more dangerous and world should fear them, not muslims. Altough people like Osama, in the name of Islam have taken a beatiful religion hostage and they are playing right into the hands of Zionists. If it was not for them, most recently the Iraq war, the brain child of Christian Talibans and Jews, millions of people, mostly Muslims would not have died.
Some day the world will come the realization who really is the master mind behind all this.

We expect more even handed article from Newsweek, which is lowering its standard to be a 'Tabloid' .

This twisted article might make Pakistan look bad, but it makes you Newsweek look like a tabloid with low class unfounded journalism. You should tell the party who has paid you to print this article to take a hike. There has to be a limit to biased and warped journalism.
I am a young woman in Pakistan living my life the way I want to and running a manufacturing firm with another woman. Over the past 10 years Pakistan has only seen prosperity, growth and development. People of all stratas and people from far off parts of the country who have never benefited are all benefitting. Musharraf, a guy you all shun for being a military man, has given us the freedom to express our thoughts and opinions openly, even if they are anti-Musharraf. Pakistan is doing very well as a country, and it seems that this is something that the sponsors of this article do not want. Hence they resort to dirty play.

I do not find the Newsweek to be a supporter of democracy and free speech if this is the kind of articles you print. Telling the truth is part of democracy and so is not being heavily biased.

As for extermist elements in Pakistan, yes we have them in certain parts thanks to the policies of many countries who sponser and use them for their own means. But Pakistan for the past few years has been fighting a battle against these extremists, who are largely non-Pakistani. Our army is fighting to get them out and God willingly we shall win. It is our country not theirs.
Several people have written strange demented comments filled with hatred for Pakistan. To them I have just one thing to say, it appears that its you who are propogating hate and violence and not us.
To the few twisted Indians out there, sorry to dissapoint you but Pakistan is not about to break up so you should stop playing games to make us break up. Go solve your own internal problems. There are several millions of Indians out there who want to see a prosperous Pakistan so our regions can be strong.

To Western media, stop picking on us when you need a story to sell your papers. Learn to live and let live.

To those who dont believe me, come visit Pakistan and see for yourself. And rest assured you wont get killed, thats just Western media trying to earn a quick buck.

Give us a chance to show you the truth.

Benazir Bhutto indeed is the most corrupt politician ever was, flip through previous record... Her dad was a brutal man, her husband and her brother [late] were ideal gangsters. How can you believe that a person with such a backgroud could work against terrorism. If she says so then that is a lie. We want Musharraf as President. There has been visable change in Pakistan ever since he came in... whether it be financial, educational or development, he has brought about so much change and we, the people of Pakistan are proud of him!

We love our former leader, President Musharraf is the best we've got. We want him to stay

  • Posted By: Mahbina @ 10/30/2007 5:13:47 PM

Who ever has paid you Newsweek to write this load of rubbish, in the end it might make Pakistan look bad, but it makes you Newsweek look like a tabloid. I am a woman living in Pakistan for all my life. I run my own business which I own jointly with anothe woman. I drive myself everywhere in most places of Pakistan. I do not cover my head. I wear jeans/pants and shirts all the time. I drive alone late at night also. Both my business partner and I are in our 30s. I travel extensively all over Pakistan to all provinces and to the best of my knowledge most of the facts in this article are concoted and grossly exaggerated.
Over the past 10 years Pakistan has changed rapidly. Its become a open, progressive and liberal society, all under the rule of a so called Military President. The positive change has been for all stratas of society.

To the Indians and Westerners who have commented, your views are just based on warped journalism by Western and other media. Come visit Pakistan before you pass high-handed judgement on issues you dont know about or dont comprehend. Your comments are mere ramblings of self righteous mumblings like the authors of this article.
Under Musharraf's leadership we Pakistani's have been given the right of speech and freedom of expression. Freedom to grow and become an economically strong nation. All these things were not given to us by our previous so called democratically elected leaders.
    So think before you judge.
As for this talk of Pakistan breaking up and Pakistan falling in the hands of extremists. The former probably is wishful thinking on part of some twisted Indians, and the latter wishful thinking of those who need another excuse to perhaps invade Pakistan too so they can put up their military bases there. Expansionist propaganda.
Certain pockets in Pakistan have a problem with extremists, and our government and army is battling them 24/7. A lot of these extremists are foreigners. Pakistan is our country not theirs and will kick them out, just give us some time. We began the battle against them only a few years ago and have made a lot of progress.

We are integrating the Tribal belt bordering Afganistan, and Baluchistan by taking the prosperity of the other part of our country their. In Baluchistan the poor people who are the majority have had enough of their tribal lords who live in the dark ages and suppress them. Look up the facts on the development of all these areas.

To Newsweek and the Pakistan haters out there, give us a break. What have we done to you?? Learn to be democratic and live and let live. If you are unable to say the truth about Pakistan, then dont say anything. And tell the chap who paid you to write this twisted article to find something else to do.
