much is riding on this election, more than many want to admit, in one thought, its for the survival of this country and what it stands for as we know it . nothing absolutely nothing matters more than freedom and liberty here in our country not abroad. you lead by example and no other candidate can compare to Ron Paul i mean the man realy if for all that this country stands. unwavering Integrity persistent and Honest we have not had such a chance to put someone like ron paul in office in many decades after i reasearched him i was sold. I want the troops home with their Families and thier children we are making orphans here as well as abroad, we are leaving our selves open, we are giving up our liberties out of fear we are getting closer to economic collapse no matter what the "experts" say, just study the matter a bit and youll see. I have dedicated what ever i can spear money time resources to getting Ron paul in Office i want this country to be what it was meant to be not what the elite are trying to make it, i do not want to become the next nazzi germany or communist Russia

Just what we need - another pro-war Bush knockoff. Gimme a break!

This man sounds like he has what the country needs. He certainly isn't spoiled and worked for it and also is a descent honnest man I would say he is one of the best possible choices after hearing him speak and what messages he had to convey to us. So he is also good enough for Chuck Norris so he has to be good,

    Huckabee is pro-amnesty. BEWARE.

It's a shame that you neglected to mention a gentleman who is far more conservative than Mr. Huckabee; One with a great deal of success in straw polls and fundraising. Ron Paul has been cleaning up in straw polls in comparison with Huckabee, and if folks like you would start mentioning him in your articles, stands the best chance of a win for the Republicans.

I'm really not sure how Ron Paul gets any support at all. Every time I see him in the debates he just sounds like a whiny old man. With yes I will admit some good issues but quite a few unrealistic ones also. Where as Mike Huckabee comes accross fresh and genuine on all the issues.

Huckabee supports amnesty for illegal aliens (similar to Bush). I don't want to have to vote between a pro-amnesty Republican and a pro-amnesty Democrat in the general election.

FINALLY!! A "main stream media" article that's thoughtful, balanced, and RIGHT! Huckabee is absolutely the best candidate, and not just because he could beat Hillary. Frankly, several of the candidates could do that based on comparisons of accomplishments and integrity alone. But because Mike is the right man at this time in our country's history...principled, intelligent, articulate, and keenly insightful. I'm happy to see so many Dems and Indeps seeing this man for what he is...not to be feared because he's conservative, but to be admired because of his compassion. He's the man that George Bush wishes he were.

So, the argument is that the candidate who will win must be a candidate unlike George W. Bush. Mike Huckabee is unlike GWB. Therefore he will win. Wow. That is really impressive reasoning. Huckabee is a Baptist minister. Out of all the republican candidates he and GWB seem most likely to attend a rodeo. Please at least try to make a coherent argument when you try to splinter the conservative vote. It makes it more fun.

Amen, Amen, and Amen! Mike Huckabee is on the prowl. Check him out: www.mikehuckabee.com

He has raised over $100,000 in less than 24 hours since Sunday night's debate. He is genuine, positive, and very refreshing.

This is great - finally MSM is giving Mike well-deserved positive and lengthy coverage. Mike has the clearest conservative stand on all the issues - and he's had the same convictions all his life - not just in the last few months (or days as it happens). As Bill Clinton himself said, he is the best speaker and the best "dark horse" Republican candidate who could beat Hillary (see Clinton interview with George Stephanopoulos). For once in my life, I agree with Bill... I hope that my fine friends who supported Sam Brownback will see in Mike a conservative, faith and values based American who desires to restore America to greatness!

I am a Democrat and I'm following Governor Huckabee. I don' t know why most Republicans do n't see what an asset he is. I like him and I may change my voter registration to be able to vote for him in the primary.

The world needs honest -God fearing men like Mike; who is not asahmed to be who they say they are 100% of the time!

I'm a moderate-to-liberal Democrat and I intend to vote for my party's nominee in '08, but I must say I am impressed with Mike Huckabee. He comes across as a genuinely nice guy, very caring, authentic, and pure. The only trouble is, once you scratch beneath the surface you quickly realize that the guy is as right-wing as they come. He's anti-choice; he believes in spiritual and legal discrimination against same-sex couples; he believes that the war on Iraq is worthwhile and makes us safer from the likes of Usama bin Laden --- he's dead wrong on all three counts.

I recall Gov Huckabee's position on Iraq (on the Bill Maher HBO show Realtime) was, to paraphrase, it would be irresponsible to the Iraqi people and the rest of the Middle East for the US to pull out now. Even now Iran and Turkey are on the verge of (if not actively participating in anti-US actions. We can't make a mess and not clean it up. As much as I hate that we have men and women over there in harm's way with no clear path out, we will inflict far more damage on the world if we turn our backs on what we have created. I'd like Gov Huckabee to give us a proposal to get out - show us your next step.

I had the good fortune to meet Gov. Huckabee and his wife at a business function last Novemberl after the GOP disaster. In two presentations over two days he dissected the results and his opinions about them and then he spent two hours presenting what was clearly a trial baloon on platform positions. While he is too conservative in his personal beliefs for many people at least he is clear about what he stands for, and he professes to understand the difference between his personal beliefs and the what his constituency elected him for. Look up his comparison of how Arkansas handled the Katrina evacuees versus anywhere else: two rules he gave his emergency committee - don't get bogged down in paperwork, and treat them (the evacuees) the way you would want to be treated. It's almost too common sense to work. Finally, I got to ask him in person about his approach to foreign policy and, while short on specifics, his basic principle rang true for me: the USA is now the only Superpower in the world but we have become the Bully on the Block, when we should be the Big Brother (I assume he meant in a non-Orwellian context). In short, he's real, he's practical, he has walked the talk, and I will write him in if he doesn't make it on the ballot. (ps I am an urban WA state catholic male).

Comment: I really like Mike Huckabee. I have watched the GOP debates and his answers are honest
and right to the point. I hope that he is nominated, I will vote for him. I think he would make a great
President. He seems like more what a President should be like. I think he stands out from all the other
    candidates.

Until I heard Mike Huckabee speak, I've never been anything less than annoyed and repulsed by political campaigning. Huckabee seems absolutely sincere, intelligent, and full of common sense - not at all the typical Plastic Political Doll. He has great ideas and proved he can get things done as governor of Arkansas. There's never going to be a perfect candidate, but Huckabee seems to be as close as you can get. I cannot understand why he's not gotten more support and notice from the GOP Powers That Be. He practically has a flashing neon sign on his forehead that says "I'm Your Candidate!". Almost everyone I've talked to who has seen him on tv has been as impressed as I am. I think his grass-roots support is going to continue to swell. They won't be able to count him out for long!

I must agree with many of the posts below--what about Ron Paul? As far as voting the person and not the party there is no one who's record speaks more of consistency, virtue, and incorruptibility. I don't know if there is anyone in the nation who agrees with every one of his positions. However, we need someone who is immune to Washington corruption, pressure, and pandering. In short, we need a real change and a real alternative to Clinton.

I am a very progressive voter. But I vote the person and not the party. In a match up between Hillary Clinton and Mike Huckabee, I like Mike!

You make valid points ONLY if you had done your homework on what Huckabee did while Guv of Arkansas. I'm from Arkansas and I can tell you he is not bright, petulent, secretive, and many other negative things. While Bush has these same traits, haven't we had ENOUGH??? Huckabee also has no qualms accepting handouts from big supporters. One local guy gave him over $75,000 in suits. The Huck didn't see a problem and only grudgingly reported the gift and source. He did MANY really bad things in Arkansas including getting Wayne Dumond out of prison (he thought he was innocent) only to see Wayne rape and kill a woman in another state. The Huck now says he had nothing to do with the clemency, but there is proof he did. He got several felons off if they happened to be trustees working at the Guv's mansion. Even one in for murder. The parting blow to Arkansas from the Huck was having all hard drives on state computers destroyed before he left office. He claims it was for privacy reasons, but he also destroyed the computer that held the State Police records of all the personal flights he took on our state plane. So many in fact, that the plane had to be scrapped due to it's condition. The Huck flew SO many places and always said it was for the state, but somehow the plane always made it's way to his little cabin on Lake Greason. Before anyone falls in love with the Huck. PLEASE do your homework.
