I find it very interesting that those opposed to the "values" voters hold people accountable for things they did when they were teenagers. Seems like the "values" voters have a since of forgiveness, unlike the people that are against them! Right sjfountain!? Seems like the people against the "values" voters are a little self-righteous!

Rather than a new party I would like to see a caucus or subgroup within the republic party that has a spokesperson representing them!

Well, wildyaker - you only assumed that I am against "values" voters. All I did was wonder about the silence. And as for the sense of forgiveness, I doubt that most of the "values" voters even know about Thompson's history. That's my point.

And let's see - the Swiftboaters and John Kerry? How many years before his campaign was that about? 20, 30, 40?

I am an ordained evangelical pastor. I currently wouldn't support Rudy. However, even though we see differently on some issues, I believe Mitt Romney is a good man with outstanding morals. I don't agree with all Catholic beliefs either but I would have voted for Kennedy ( John not Teddy). Both Mitt and Fred are decent human beings, not perfect, but are any of us? A third party would only be a vote for Hillary. This country is having enough problems without electing a leader who has demonstrated she neither cares for human life or any of God's laws. A third party is exactly what the liberals want. We must not let that happen. I would advise the Godly men that are proposing this to pray very hard before trying to promote a third party. Lastly, yes I would vote for Rudy if my only other choice was Hillary. I would then hope God's hand would direct him to act in a Godly manner. God can change anyone. Ever heard of Paul???

"Murder rates are high is some places (thanks, gun rights activists!)"

Umm, don't you mean that murder rates are lower in some places thank to gun rights activists? The ones murdering with firearms are those against gun rights activists, the nurderers obtaining their weapons illegally instead of through the check and record process gun rights supporters follow.
Owning a gun legally and using it for sport shooting or hunting has nothing to do with murder, I've never heard of a gun right supporter promoting murder. The NRA is one of the biggest supporters of a full check system for every single gun owner, maybe you should research a bit before maybe accusations that are the exact opposite of the truth. Thanks to gun rights supporters, we have a better checks and balances system that allows certain people to own guns (already shown to lower crime due to the knowledge that a potential victim may be armed), but attempts to stop criminals from getting their hands on them.
I target shoot, to better my reflexes, my hand-eye coordination, and my breathing. Id' love to know how taking that away from me would lower the murder rate. Look at London and see how increases in gun bans cause an increase in violent crime, the numbers are there plain as day.

OK sahhlh, now you???ve pissed me off, we have had over 7 years of unprecedented spending, we have been attacked with a Republican in office, we have had no taxes only because we are getting loans to fund the country and the war from Communist China, India, Mexico and even Saudi Arabia. You say that if Hillary is elected then we will fall into a recession??? well I have news for you??? we are in all the above with a Republican at the helm??? You need to go back to school and get and education because you have to be the most ignorant person on EARTH. All you do is reiterate the same bullshit that we hear on the FOX OPINION NETWORK. As as for clean air tax, well I don???t know about you, but I like to breathe clean air??? You moron!!!

Hey, mlawrence. Mormons were the original Sept. 11 terrorists? You must live in South Carolina and have attended some of Mr. Land's meetings. Or, you simply escaped from the local nut house. 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other.

I go with peace and love keep religion out of government. Isnt there something that already says that??

  • Posted By: roninlittleton @ 10/23/2007 2:47:26 PM

Just split off already. Your antiquated so called "moral" impositions are ruining the reputation of a party founded on solid political ideas. The point of the republican platform is less government, less government interference. Letting people chose how to live their lives in a country where religion is a personal choice and not a platform!

sahhlh: You are a true lemming and non thinker. You are also brainwashed. Good luck trying to find facts. They seem to be avoiding your thinking.

  • Posted By: jdhunter515 @ 10/23/2007 2:44:51 PM

I think someone basing a leader of free people off the basis of religion is old school(dark ages)......SUre lets go with religon if u wanna see crusades and mass death and disease. I think we are having enough problems without that.

We had Mr. Huckabee for two terms as governor and that was two terms to many. He did nothing for our state. All you have to do is check his record for yourself and you will see what a joke it was while he was in office. He was put in office by default and in the second term it was the lesser of two evils so you get the idea. mc

i know something about mormons--you believe when you die that you inherit a planet all your own, you believe that someday mormons will rule the earth, that god will give it you, i know that you were the original sept 11th terroists--look it up your religion is a cult that should not be supported in anyway.

jthurm: It is you who sounds like a bigot and anti american in addition.

Keep your BELIEFS out of my government. I dont agree with them and really dont want to have anything to do with them.

Go to church and pray until your head explodes for all I care.

  • Posted By: Artemite @ 10/23/2007 10:21:20 AM

Who do these evangelists believe they are to push their beliefs onto the whole country? To all you religious zealots, I say, "Whatever belief you hold is yours and yours only. Church and state are separate. To those who believe in Jesus, remember that he gave you free will, ABORTION IS A RIGHT OF FREE WILL GRANTED BY YOUR LORD. Do not believe yourself above others or of right to control the free will and freedom of others."

    • Posted By: Mr. 101 @ 10/23/2007 12:02:13 PM

Should we say then that murdering you is a "right of free will" also? At some point, the freedom of one person is going to impact the freedom of another. That is why we have laws, especially to protect the most vulnerable among us. If we have free will, we can choose well, or we can choose poorly. We can choose right, or we can choose wrong. Certain wrong choices (like murder) need to be against the law because the free will of one impacts the basic rights of another (like the right to remain alive). I would think that those willing to take an innocent life are much more imposing than those try to save an innocent life.

I think people should be able to vote how ever suits them. However I don't think Churches which are tax exempt entities, specificaly because they did not want to be influenced by government. You know that BS line about seperation of church and state, should be allowed to publicly support specific canidates and tell their congregations to vote for them. That would make it aceptable if they want the seperation that grants them their tax exempt status.

How about you? Why do you feel the need to "push" your contrarian views on us? Evangelicals have no need to push forward. We are only pushing back against the pro-gay societal forces. We don't try to get laws passed to prevent Gays or Liberals from anything. Your type however, is PUSHING to pass laws to get us to accept gays in every arena including the ordained ministry. We are tolerant, loving people of gays (and everyone else). But we do not like being forced to accept their lifestyle as the moral equivalent of heterosexual life. It isn't. And we are not "hating" for saying so. Some see this as well as the acceptance of abortion as morally neutral as the new civil rights movement. We don???t and it???s not fair to force us to agree with your mindset. Anti-evangelicals are the ones pushing, not us

This is a pro life party? Now that right there is a perfect example of the main problem with the party system. The misconception is that you either agree with everything stated about the party, or you are against everything. Apparently, according to this guy at least, you can't hold up to every single other value of a Republican but support pro-choice. This guy shows exactly what is wrong with this country. I'm primarily Republican, but an agnostic and pro-choice. I side Republican on just about everything else though, why on earth should a candidate be forced to make his decisions based on the exact specifications of the party? How are we supposed to better the country that way? Let's not vote for a guy because he's Mormon, regardless of whether he's better qualified and more able than the rest (not saying he is, just using religion as an example), let's not vote for someone because you don't agree on one point while agreeing on everything else more than the other party. No, the Republican party is NOT a pro-life party. Pro-life is a belief among many within the party, but it is not representative of the party itself, and for a president to side against his own beliefs simply to match some party standards is one of the utmost ridiculous statements I've ever heard in my life. This guy is doing nothing other than forcing his opinions, choosing not based on the best candidate, but on those who happen to mirror his religion and religious beliefs, while ignoring the most important aspects of a president such as economic management. Voting for a person based on their religion and not on their qualifications is one of the utmost betrayals to this country, and can only lead it downwards. A president is not a religious preacher, and has no room or place to be one.

Gee! Isn't this the very reason Jr came to be selected the president of the USA?

  • Posted By: christiandemocrat @ 10/23/2007 2:40:54 PM

GW Bush was "propelled" into the whitehouse because many thought he was a christian. At least he said he was and the Late Jerry Falwell and Pat Roberson said he must be if he SAID he was and the fact that his political party starts with an "R" . Please lets research the next person who makes a claim to be an honest christion person . We could have researched GW's history to determine his way of thinking. His cronyism was rampant while he was Governor of Texas and during his failed business attempts. He was an admitted accoholic and the only candidtate who refused to answer the drug use question. Didn't that thow up a red flag. He s the only president with an arrest record. Lets try and elect a president who has a history of being honest and telling the truth regardless of his religous affiliations.

If the fundamentalist christians left the Republican party it would be just like Hamas splitting from Fatah. We can watch as Fatah succeeds in working with Isreal and the international community for peace and reconciliation while Hamas continues its beligerant attitude. The Republicans will move more to the moderate center and will be able to work with the rest of the country while the fundamentalists continue their beligerant attitude. We all know that Hamas' time is numbered and so too for the fundementalists if they split. I say go for it! The rest of the country can shed the dead political weight that is the christian right and finally feel whole again.

Hey KR1969???How many priests have been convicted of Pedophilia over the last twenty years? You say that we have crime because we lack faith or are immoral; I say we have crime because we lack hope. If 90% of the wealth is held by only 10% of the people and the dwindling middle class is paying the brunt of the taxes because the wealthy are granted the loopholes to retain their wealth then where is the hope? When it now takes both parents working to maintain a household while health insurance, education and the cost of living is rising and wages are deceasing, where is the hope? The elderly pay more for prescription drugs and the majority don???t have health insurance??? where is the hope? We have a government who is spending this side shy of a Trillion dollars on the war while our infrastructure is falling apart and our cities are in ruin??? where is the hope? You need to get to grips with your faith and history, and maybe if you offered some understanding and less judgment you would understand that people, even of faith, are capable of some horrible atrocities all in the name of survival, moral beliefs and yes???immorality.

Are we our brother???s keeper, if you are a Christian, then yes! We have an obligation to all people no matter of Race, Gender, Sexual preference, or religious beliefs the aid them in their hour of need, to offer them shelter, food and clothing, to help them when they are down to stand back up with dignity and honor. So where are you ???Christians??? besides standing on the side lines and passing judgment saying that people are immoral, you should be offering them HOPE!!!!

Hey Christians, back out of our government. You are entitled to believe any fairy tale that you want, but GWB has again proven that separation of church and state is a great idea. He spoke about Jesus and right to life and, like lemmings, you put him into office twice.
Please don't tell me to repent. I see more slime balls coming out of the Christian right than I can believe.

    • Posted By: rogerally @ 10/23/2007 10:52:56 AM

Why is it that the anti-Christian types feel so self righteous and engage in name calling? Show me a Christian writer in this post who wrote as nastily as you did. You won't find one.
