Why does anyone expect politicians or government to legislate morality or determine standards of personal interaction? Government is a business. The candidate with the largest corporate backing will win.

I do not understand the problem you have with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints faith, as that is what our church is named. By the very name, we worship Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, so what is your beef? Do not you worship Christ at your Savior. Does this mean that you have to agree with everything Mitt Romney says, of course not, but I would venture to guess that you have not always agreed with what George Bush has said and done either? What is the difference? If you are basing it on the basis of CHRISTIAN BELIEF, than you should have not beef with Romney. He worships the Same Jesus Christ that you profess to, maybe not in the same way, but nonetheless the same Christ. Did you know that we all have multiple church hymns in common? Why don't you try asking someone of our faith about our faith before you condemn us?

OK. i am now begging the right wing zealots to have their own party. They need to be separated from those of us who think.

  • Posted By: sorryboutthat @ 10/23/2007 2:18:02 PM

Our country has not gotten worse in the past 40 years. Murder rates are high is some places (thanks, gun rights activists!) but many crime rates have fallen, especially in the last 17 years. Pedophilia is now reported--unlike 40 years ago, when it was swept under the rug. If this is an immoral country, is it because it's crawling with Christians--or because you're just pretending to be Christains? Go ahead and take a stand! Back the candidate that bloats the biggest to get you to vote for him. And then forgets you for the next four years. Like you just did--only it was for eight years. And, by all means, vote your conscience! Create a third, or a fourth party--how about one for each denomination, you know, for the sake of purity, and clear consciences. Then after the election we will one more time be reminded why, since the Middle Ages, there is a Department of Political Science in addition to a Department of Theology...

One thing I have noticed is that the zealots have a very tough time with spelling and grammar - YOUR means something belongs to you, or it is "yours"...what you meant to say, KR1969, is that YOU'RE an idiot.

  • Posted By: waterbaby423 @ 10/23/2007 2:14:36 PM

    To respond to KR1969's comment:

There is always North Korea friend. Yeah, this country has it's fair share of problems make no mistake, but I'd still rather wake up here then any other place on earth. Nobody is kicking out of my office, putting me in the home, taking away my right to vote, or telling me to cover up in public. But hey, thanks for confusing what the article is about.

As for this 3rd party, I argue that many conservatives are also just a bit sick of looking like fools. As a Christian and a young person, I'd like to see canidate who was conservative, but cares about the envioroment, health care, social security and the war in Iraq as well as abortion. Wake up people. The world is changing, abortion is NOT the only pressing concern.

WE CAN ALL ANSWER 1 QUESTION ? IN THE PAST FORTY YEARS WOULD YOU SAY OUR COUNTRY HAS GOTTON BETTER OR WORSE ? IF YOU ANSWERED BETTER YOUR AN IDIOT !! MURDER,CARJACKING'S AND PEDAPHILIA JUST TO NAME A FEW OF THE WONDERFUL THINGS THAT ARE PLAGUING OUR GREAT NATION.WE'VE TURNED OUR BACK ON THE LORD AND LOOK WERE IT HAS TAKEN US. I'M ALL FOR IT GO CHRISTIANS !!!!! ALLOT OF PEOPLE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF THIS IMMORAL, CRIME RIDDEN COUNTRY AND IT'S ABOUT TIME WE TOOK A STAND !!!

To us, the "old days" somehow always seem simpler and maybe more innocent in some ways, with clearer-cut ideals. I think that it is a tempation for every generation to look back at prevoius generations with that kind of idealism. But the "old days" are a fiction. Every age has its problems--moral and otherwise--that need to be addressed and solved by the courageous people of that age, which invariably involves moving forward, not backward, toward an ideal.

    • Posted By: tillerbuck @ 10/23/2007 2:07:11 PM

yeah, the prisons are full of "Christians" so may people hide behind religion

      • Posted By: 2cents @ 10/23/2007 2:14:09 PM

So you're saying that murder, pedaphilia, rape, drugs and crime in general all started in the 60's? What rock did your ancestors crawl out from? Typical fundamentalist bull. And by the way so is the CAPS!! A dead give away of a brainwashed individual.

Because of my work, I must always strive to maintain an apolitical philosophy. Politics, in it's complexities
and nuance, is not my forte. Having said that, If I was asked to merely suggest a Presidential ticket, I would
first advise: It is time for an American Revolution. Actually, it's slightly over-due. I'll leave you that, to ponder, hopefully, at great length. Indeed, we are on the cusp of a historical election: The John-John Ticket.
    EDWARDS-McCAIN in 2008.....by a LANDSIDE.

I am an atheist and very educated in my understanding of why. In general I do not have a problem with whatever religion anyone chooses to practice. The problem I have is with people and religions which do not allow for another viewpoint other than their own. In this way the Taliban and Evangelical Christians are very much the same.

I vote for candidates which demonstrate a voting pattern which I believe will be the best for the greater good of our great nation.

I am a Mormon and thought it was interesting that Mr. Land confessed that evangelical churches actively teach about the Mormon faith in their Sunday School classes to counteract the LDS Church's missionaries. Don't they have enough doctrine in the scriptures to talk about rather than disparage someone else's faith? I think this is very telling on the Evangelical mind set and I am very upset at Gov. Romney for pandering to and embracing these type of people just to get elected. In the next couple of election cycles, the Republican party will find out how irrelevant these intolerant zealots actually are.

Good grief ... what a ridiculous interview. It this southern white man really feel that he is qualified to determine that blacks have been taken advantage of by anyone? I hope that this man, who exemplifies religious-based bigotry, gathers up his fellow believers to form their own party. Better yet, perhaps they can just hook-up with our friends in Iran ... therein they will achieve the theocracy that they crave.

This will make it easier for them to be beat. There are millions of Christians who don't buy into the far right BS. Most of us follow the teachings of Jesus, which means we're against torture, we're FOR peace, we're FOR helping the poor and the sick, we're FOR taking care of the earth, etc etc... as a Christian I find these nut jobs don't represent my faith or my politics in the least... split the conservative vote and let's get a Democrat in office.

We have larger problems to solve for the good of our country. The price of oil. Manufacturing jobs. How other countries view us. Terrorism in our schools. Seems like we are going downhill worrying about which religion should be in the White House when we should be solviing the real problems that face us now. Some issues can be put on the back burner untill we get this country focused in the right direction. Congress in the past 7 years has not passed any significant legislation. Absolute gridlock and it is discusting.

We're in the 21st century and we are still dealing with narrow minded individuals that want everyone to think like them!! It's there way or the highway! The Middle East have their retards we have ours. One of the other commentaters said it perfectly -"The job of the President is to support the entire country and do whats right for everyone."

All I can say is, thank GOD I live in Canada, where these looney tunes don't have much impact on the political process

  • Posted By: tig1dtk @ 10/23/2007 2:08:59 PM

The "churches" (and those who contribute to them) that insist on imposing their views, via the political process, on the rest of us should NOT be exempt from taxes!!! Propose taxation and it will take about 3.1 milliseconds for them to shut up

"My Kingdom is not part of this world" (John 18:36) So you say you follow in Jesus footsteps? I recommend you read the gospel's a few more times and recognize that Jesus was never mixed or gave opinion to political views, parties, or anything having to do with human goverment. Stop calling yourselves Christians until you fully understand what it means to be a follower of Christ.

    • Posted By: guerrero1213 @ 10/23/2007 2:07:24 PM

That is why those who say that they are true christians must fully practice what is said at John 17:3 "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ. " Otherwise they are just being fool hearted in thinking that mankikid can solve their own problems. That is why the scriptures say "that man has dominated man to his own injury."
