YES! By ALL MEANS! I believe that the "Religious Right" should have their OWN political party, so that I can get my OWN party back - you know, the Goldwater-Reagan/conservative, Republican party, not this pack of Neo-Con jackals and their "moral imperatives", foreign adventures, intrusive government, and deficit spending. I've long argued that this country needs THREE political parties - one for the right wing loonies, one for the left wing loonies, and a centrist party which could govern while the other two attack each other. Let these whacko Christian jihadist go! In 4 years, without the necessity of kowtowing to their antediluvian attitudes and vile prejudices, maybe we can rebuild a Republican Party that can both win elections AND govern the country effectively.

FACT: Seperation of Church and State IS IN THE CONSTITUTION...

    • Posted By: moderate1 @ 10/23/2007 8:25:42 PM

Seperation of church and state was first mentioned by Thomas Jefferson in his letter to the Danbury Baptist. The only reason for it was to alleviate the Baptist fears of a British-style state sponsored religion. The constitutions says the no state-sponsored relgion will be imposed. It doens't say that you can't use your religious values to make decisions in the political arena. This argument is only used by people with no other argument. I point to the ACLU and the 10 commandments fiasco. They had nothing other than the seperation of church and state and a liberal judge. Quit beating dead horses.

    • Posted By: bwurgdiscipleofX @ 10/23/2007 7:53:58 PM

You are sincere I think but you are sincerely wrong. Get a copy of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and read them. You will be surprised that many things people quote are not there at all. Some people think that saying something loud enough and long enough will make it true. Keep Shouting!!

Seperation of Church and State was first mentioned in the Danbury letters wrote by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists. He was merely trying to alleviate their fears of a British Style state religions. The Constitution says that the state will not make a state sponsored religion. What it doesn't say is that your faith can't guide your values and decisions when participating in government. The whole serperation of church and state is a dead horse that is constantly beat by people that have no other evidence. Like the ACLU and 10 commandments issue. The horse is dead, quit beating it.

I have rarely heard such hate spewed as is being spewed toward Christians about this topic. Do you believe in the freedom of speech?? the freedom OF religion - which is Constitutional rather than the separation talk that wants the freedom FROM religtion. The fact is this, believing Christians, acting on their beliefs have a right to interact in the political process as voters, supporters and yes, even candidates. Believing athiests have this right as well as those who are so afraid that they have no need of God since they have become their own god.
A third party however would be a mistake as it would assure that the candidate who's views and votes are the farthest from the teachings of Christ would win by acheiving a plurality of the votes of those who don't care about adhering to Christ's teachings. Christians would be giving up their vote instead of using it. By the same token, being Christian, observantly Jewish, Muslim, Mormon, etc. does not mean that your opinions or your vote should not count. All of you who spew hate for Christians should look to yourselves because the right to believe what you believe does not give you the right to castigate others for their beliefs. Your rights, and my rights as well should stop when they infringe on the rights of others. Just because you do not hold certain beliefs does not make them less valuable or worse yet, stupid or thoughtless. Keep the discourse civil so that the conversation can continue.

I DO NOT AND HAVE NEVER SAID I HATE ANYONE, BUT IF THEY WANT A PARTY THEY SHOULD BE TAX PAYERS TO. PAY TO PLAY LIKE THE REST OF US, AND THIS HAS NO RELIGIOUS HATE OR DISRESPECT. JUST A FACT THAT MUST BE SOLVED PRIOR TO A RELIGIOUS PARTY, BUT LIKE YOU IT WOULD BE A BAD IDEA

The evangelicals didn't show up in 2006 for the mid term, and resulted in the Republicans lost the Senate. Now they want to dictate terms to the party they abandoned? As a mainstream Christian and a libertarian-minded conservative, I'm tired of evangelicals trying to hold the conservative movement hostage, and equally tired of the Republican party pandering to their agenda of legislating morality. The only way the Republican party can move forward again is to win without them.

  • Posted By: bkztx @ 10/23/2007 8:13:06 PM

I hope they form a third party so that I will finally be able to vote Republican. I'm a fiscal conservative, but the far right is such a turn-off, I could not allow myself to vote for them.

  • Posted By: milfabe @ 10/23/2007 7:33:55 PM

Please, as a die-hard Democrat, I beg you to form a third party.

All this political ideology in the name of Christianity is ridiculous. Real Christians do not bicker and argue about political ideologies of alleged Christians. I am a Christian and I by no means believe what most of so called Christian fundamentalist believe. In fact I don't even know or acknowledge the term "Christian Fundamentalist" I don't even know what it means. It is just a politically motivated made up word. believe what Jesus preached: which is love, compassion fairness, towards all people. Real Christians want to better society and improve life for those around them not have political debates about what is right or wrong. Judgment I save that for God. Don't get me wrong it would be great to have another party not that I would care, because I don't vote republican or democrat I vote for the person running.

Pinkpanther whomever you are, I have had a good laugh over everyone's humor here, and I haven't laughed in a long, long, time..........but I need to correct one small, small item. In your conversation earlier you keep mispelling the word "prophet" with its synonym "profit" and it changes the context of what you are trying to say, and if you look up both in the dictionary and then look at what you have said, I am sure you will get just as good a chuckle..........that's all I wanted to say on this "hot" debate, and in the spirit of giving, I wish much "profit" to everyone ......skd500

I agree with grayflexdreams almost completely. His comment about Founding fathers semantics is an assertion without evidence. The far right does poorly represents the Christian masses in America, but so does Romney. Mormonism and Christianity are not the same. Sadly, there are no candidates that represent the historic /apostolic Christian faith, like Christ intended.

  • Posted By: signedbyjustme @ 10/23/2007 7:30:30 PM

Well, I am a Christian. I make mistakes and sin. I am far from perfect. I do not look for a man..president, govenor, judge, politician, etc..to change this country. I am almost 40 years old and I have never voted. I have learned that almost all the people in goverment are not who they claim to be. I may vote one day if someone would stand up and be real. Not the typical politician who will say anything to get into office. What we Americans look for is a real person who tells it like it is. Who want lie just to get his or her way. I believe there are some of you real people out there who need to step up. I am too dumb... Now to the people who post about Christians. I would like to explain to you what one truly is. A Christian is a normal person who understands that he or she is a sinner and is not perfect. A Christian does not want to harm, steal, cheat, lie etc..to anyone. A Christian wants peace and happiness. But a Christian do often make mistakes and sin. A Christian does not want to make people believe, worship or practice what they do...but hope that all people would understand that there is only One God and he has One way. A Christian never ever lives and or does perfectly eventhough he or she tries too for God daily. Jesus, Gods only Son, is the only way for a Christian to come near to the Only Perfect God. A Christian wants to please the only savior Jesus by living a life that is pleasing to Jesus...I could go on but, A Christian will not say anything to get vote into office. A Christian will not change when they are elected. A Christian will look out for the good for all people. None-christians alike. A Christian will not turn away from what he or she believes in. A Christian is a person who can be trusted but will often admit that they themselves are not perfect and can do wrong. ...So..A third party of Christian candidates? A party of real people being real? Will it happen? Will I finally cast a vote?...I say go for it !
The two ruling parties are untrustworthy. I would be willing to try the third.

I WISH YOUR DREAM TO COME TO PASS, NOT TO LIGHT. YES WE ALL NEED FAITH, BUT IN POLITICS THERE IS NO PLACE FOR FAITH, ONLY GREED,LIES AND YOU BETTER BELIEVE THEY WILL CHANGE IN A HEART BEAT! MONEY AND POWER CORUPS ALL RATHER QUICKLY TO

The reason our country has fallen in the toilet is because americans lack of faith in God. And that includes fellow christians. We need a christian leader that can change the abortion laws, capital punishment, stop gay marriage and keep us out of war.

I would vote for a third party candidate before I would vote for either Clinton or Giuliani.

  • Posted By: sgtgop @ 10/23/2007 7:24:12 PM

You are actually stupid enough to splinter off a third party if Giuliani wins the GOP nomination. That will ensure that Hillary Clinton will not only get elected, but the name of our great nation will change from the "United States of America" to the "United Socialist States of America." We won the Cold War and if you break off from the GOP, you will be equally responsible for starting one within our own borders. Do you really want that on your conscience?

WE CURRENTLY LIVE IN THE UN-UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. WHO COULD NOT EVEN GET TO TOGETHER FOR THE PLEDGE, TO "ONE NATION UNDER MANY GODS" AS I TAUGHT MY BOYS BOTH OF THEM.

"IF WE WON" IMPLIES I WHO SERVED AND FOUGHT, KILLED, AND TRAINED, AND SHOOK HANDS WITH BIN-LAUDEN IS WINNING? THEN HOW COME THE MILITARY CALLS IT A NONE COMBAT ERA-I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AS THIS IS WHERE AND WHEN I BECAME DISABLED, BUT AS A NOBODY, NO RECORDS, NO BOOKS, NO ORDERS! FLAT OUT DID NOT EXSIST WHAT DID WE WIN?

  • Posted By: padrinwolf @ 10/23/2007 7:49:10 PM

i can fix all of the problems ..... fire them all and let us american citizens vote on all of the issues . as much as i love a good joke. from either side, i think i can speak for myself. as far as being a christian (my self) being better, well folks forget we're all sinners . i just go to the big guy and appologize, and try to be better. and i believe that when you are about to take that last gasp of air you'll know if you were rite or wrong.me i'll ltake a chance with jesus.

  • Posted By: graflexdreams @ 10/23/2007 7:49:08 PM

Christians in the U.S. have more toleration and freedom to practice their beliefs than in any place on this planet, but that's not enough. I was raised in mainstream Christianity and was a devout follower for 26 years. One of the many things that eventually pushed me away was the constant whining from the Christian Right about how "persecuted" they were, and how badly they wanted to take over the country. give me a break. Jesus never tried to gather all his followers to and organize them into a political force to force his agenda. After his resurrection, he didn't instruct his growing group of believers to do the same. The only thing he cared about was letting everyone know that he'd changed the way man related to God forever, and he wanted to have a personal, internal diolog with each and every human on earth. Period. No political motivations or agendas -- in fact, his single mission on earth was to UNDO the conservative, strict, overbearingly legal system of governance that the Jewish leaders had imposed on their people for hundreds of years. Ironic that the Christian Right wants to commit their act of social engineering that would be similar to Jesus' disciples reverting to the Old Testament laws of Jews.
Another thing that makes me really sad is how ignorant the Christian right regarding the way that the founding fathers (and generally everyone even until as recently as the 1970s) used references to "God" and "faith" and "creator". Don't people of today realize that these references were used widely and with great generality for hundreds of years? Particularly amongst the founding fathers, most of whom were products of the Enlightenment, particularly Ben Franklin. If anything, they "worshiped" REASON. They were opinionated theorists and philosophers and (probably above all) opportunists and businessmen. Most of them were Masons, and the term "Creator" that appears numerous times in the constitutional documents, if REALLY evaluated in context of all the different philosophies and beliefs of the contributors, was meant to be a very general term used in the absence of a better term. Most of the founding fathers believed in some kind of higher power, and if nothing else, they were sick and tired of the British rulers telling them WHAT to believe. For modern Christians to assume that the founding fathers were JUST LIKE THEM -- Bible-believing, twice-a-week worshipers who teach Sunday school and do their devotions every morning -- that's just such a huge stretch that it breaks.
The Christian Right needs to count their blessings and focus their energy on becoming Christ-like and taking care of their own. I'm doing fine without them thank you very much. More importantly, our political system is broken and corrupt and flawed enough without them making it just plain archaic, thank you even more...

Don't worry!! Hillary will never make president. She has way too much bad baggage and We The People, will not forget.
A third party is just what this country needs to put the Dems and Reps back into check. I am sick and tired of the Dems taxing me to death to help lazy people live for free, and sick and tired of the corporate greed, ceo's, profits and oil. Sick and tired, tired and sick.
I will be voting for Huckabee.

"Comment: The reason our country has fallen in the toilet is because americans lack of faith in God. And that includes fellow christians. We need a christian leader that can change the abortion laws, capital punishment, stop gay marriage and keep us out of war."

And what kind of Christian do you suggest? Catholic? Mormon? Christian Scientist? Oh, no, sorry, you mean a FUNDAMENTALIST Christian, don't you? None of the others even register on the "Christian" scale, do they?

And Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddists, Wiccans, etc...they're just off the map, aren't they?

Hmmmm, I know that the Puritans came to this country for something or other, now what was it again? Oh yeah, RELIGIOUS FREEDOM...ie, freedom from RELIGIOUS TYRANNY. Remember that tiny little detail the next time you want to push your own brand of "Christian" on every one else in America.
