Mr. Land only makes sense to true believers. Those who aren't Christians will have a problem with not only him, but any professing Christian, as proven in the immediate comments here. To equate the deaths of civilians in war to the premeditated killing of innocent newborn/pre-born life is absurd, but not the the non-believer. It's a Christian thing, and you refuse to understand. His comparison of racism was a correllation to the killing of innocent life, not to Catholics or Mormons. But once again, the true bigots only see their uneducated viewpoint. If the left-wingers would take their eyes of themselves and do some research, they would see the present danger to our very existence. Islamo-fascism is real, and is totally bent on killing us, incluiding the liberal sympathizers. One major irony is that these radical muslims actually hate the liberal mindset worse than the Christian's. Secular humanism is anti-God, anti-life, and one of the reasons Osama and Co. hate us. Yet liberals/progressives continue to be blind to this fact. God's will will be done, no matter what any of us thinks. Better to be on His side though, don't you think?

The point though, is that he himself is expressing is personal bigotry by making Mitt's religion a major issue. Forget about collateral damage... This President is engaging our troops in an immoral war.
If you are truly pro-life, than you s/b against abortion, capital punishment and war..with one exception for War when it is absolutely necessary in defending our nation....fat chance trying to fit Iraq into those tight shoes...

      • Posted By: bluestar1 @ 10/23/2007 3:38:07 PM

God was (and is) against the killing of INNOCENT life. None of our troops are targeting the innocent, as the radical muslims are daily in their own country. Big difference. This is why Christians support the death penalty, and abhor abortion, lynchings, murder, etc. No one enjoys or is pleased with the death of innocent people, but those who are guilty must be dealt with to enable the innocent to live safely.

The ten comandments says 'Thou shalt not kill" not thou shalt not murder. God didnt' make a distinction when he put it down so I don't think he will honor man making a distinction for him.

          • Posted By: dusk @ 10/23/2007 4:44:11 PM

Actually the original Hebrew says murder. Jehovah ordered the Israelites to destroy nations of people, women and children a few times in the bible.

            • Posted By: Sepulcherdragon @ 10/23/2007 6:27:28 PM

Yes but if people read the bible the way it was writen in it's original language, and not the translations from translations from translations that it is today, I think their heads might explode. Since in the orignal versions of the the bible, and not the edited versions that have passed down, aka the Catholic Church though they were not the only ones to edit it, Im not sure they could handle it. For one there is no referance to a firey hell, most people don't realize that didn't become popular in sermons until after Dante. The church borrowed from it because it seemed like an effective tool.

        • Posted By: rlweibel @ 10/23/2007 5:52:58 PM

So as jesus was a victim of (lawful and just) capital punishment....Do you think he deserved it? To say that none of our troops have targeted innocents is to ignore the facts of those cases where soldiers have been prosecuted in the last few months for killing innocents, not to mention our fine contracting companies of mercanaries who shoot in every direction to terrorize (wouldn't that be terrorism) the people into staying clear

        • Posted By: sweetdave @ 10/23/2007 3:51:31 PM

Speak for yourself...What Christians approve of the death penalty? What about mercy? Or does that only apply to our friends and people who are worthy of our forgiveness? Where is war and capital punishment condoned in the New Testament? Quote me chapter and verse, please!

        • Posted By: Sepulcherdragon @ 10/23/2007 3:41:59 PM

And who are you to decide who is innocent. What about all the civilians dying who are not fighting. Oh i forgot they aren't Christian so they don't count right? I don't think Jesus would agree witht that. Last I checked the only one who could decide who was innocent was God.

    • Posted By: Sepulcherdragon @ 10/23/2007 3:28:20 PM

The Bigotry is in thinking that you must save an unborn life but it's ok to let them be kill or die once they are old enough to serve some ones purposes. Whether that is capital punishment, torture, or war. A Chrisitian should be against killing, not just against some killing and ok with others because it suits their purposes. A believe in what Jesus taught would understand that. Seems to many Christians forget his teachings when it suits them, which is why some of them are bigots.

The abortion issue should be left to personal choice. To many outside issue effect it. If a woman is raped should she give birth to that mans baby? The thing on the war is that we as a people just sit back and post crap about it. If the middle and lower class people actually stood up to em they would act, but they keep us well divided with issues and other minor concerns.

        Yes. You will.

Who is it that gets to determin who is and who isn't a Christian? Anyone who believes Christ is our Savior and seeks to follow His teachings is a Christian. The fact that the doctrines of the LDS Church are different than so-called main-stream Christianity does not mean that Mormons are not Christians. Think about it.

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 10/23/2007 6:22:20 PM

not according to the jews you don't worship the right profit as God has sent no profit yet-again so i say according to you the jew should die to for not believing in the right profit but same God right-why are we wasting thousands of youg ones lives for them then?

    • Posted By: daisrael @ 10/23/2007 6:20:37 PM

Not that credibility has ever crossed too many christians minds, but mormonism have been even blatantly disproved. Their founder's Book of Abraham which he "translated" back in the 1800's has been, lets say more accurately translated. He was a complete fraud. The book was funeral rites for an egyptian priest.
If you doubt it, research it. Knowledge is a wonderful thing.
They have a very healthy and simple core for a faith. Technically speaking, they are many times easier to find their flaws than mainstream christianity.

I offer you this: "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

It's called Humanism and thinking. Checking the facts of out dated myths and respecting your fellow man.

Everyone working to make life better for all of us doesnt need delusional hoops to get through of "your saved" and others aren't.

I could only hope a third party would help. What we realy need is a politician that will stand up and look out for the needs of all the people and not pander to large corporations. The majority of the people in this country agree on many issues but have no support from the politicians.

  • Posted By: Gaberr @ 10/23/2007 6:00:24 PM

Why not just vote for Mrs. Bill Clinton? Thats what a third party Would do for the country. Yes I"m a Christian And wil pray for our leaders, but Ifear those onthe left who want to take our freedom away. Back Huckabee and we might just save our country. Do not split the party.

    • Posted By: rlweibel @ 10/23/2007 6:15:58 PM

By taking away freedom your refering to GW and his attack on the constittion right? I hope your not saying that liberals take away freedom...we have always been the ones fighting for the real meanings of freedom...It means more than choosing the mega church north of town vs the one soutth of town and whether to root for #3 or #8 as they keep drviing in circles (always veering to the left...think about that one)

  • Posted By: pfachief @ 10/23/2007 5:38:38 PM

I dare say that our Founding Fathers would be today's Right Winged Religious Zealots. The problem with our country is that we continue to move farther and farther away from the GOD who blessed us with this county in the first place. His name is Jesus Christ. You can't change that by legislating Him out of everything from schools to courts to anything the ACLU finds to be religious. Just remember, this country was founded on freedom and CHRISTIANITY. If you don't like it.....LEAVE!

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 10/23/2007 6:14:39 PM

So the jews who do not believe in the first coming should perish! then why are our children dying for them today by the thousands? as they are an American intrest, nuclear packing, oilless, and arming our enemies, bound for hell, cause the second comng can't come till the first!!! so you say kill the jew cause they don't believe the SAME WAY WE DO?

    • Posted By: badlogic @ 10/23/2007 5:56:14 PM

Funny, many of the founding fathers were closer to agnostics or deists. They believed in god, but not in organized religion and DID NOT take the bible literally. The founding fathers purposfully made this a democracy based on reason that accepts all belief systems. And once again, please realize that just because you say it a lot, and the people around you repeat it endlessly doesn't make it true. It is irrational to claim something without evidence no matter how many people say it. This country allows you the right to believe it and say it, but not to force that view on others.

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 10/23/2007 5:55:44 PM

so when are you leaving cause we were not founded on Christianity dur to the large amounts of people swinging from the gallows for not believing in the one true religion-yours

    • Posted By: daisrael @ 10/23/2007 5:51:09 PM

You should check your US history before inserting your foot in your mouth. This country was in no wasy shape or form founded on christianity. The constitution doesn not mention and religions god and the next document the founding fathers produced was the treaty of trinidad. It stated very clearly we were not and were never intended to be a christian nation.

The injection of "god" onto our money didnt come around til the covil war and "under god" din't deviate the original "pledge of allegiance til the 1950's.

These people won't accept anyone who doesn't get them whipped into a frenzy, moaning and crying and screaming "Hallelujah!" after every sentence. They can't live decent lives of their own without the threat of God's punishment hovering over them and want the same for the rest of us. If they really want to live by his rules they should stay out of 'wordly politics' altogether. Their efforts to get involved in human governments is a SIN in the eyes of God, but they conveniently ignore that part of the Bible

Your comments to mr101 regarding science reveal what you put your faith in. Your god is 'science' . I hope it works out for you because you will find one day is that science did not PROVE that the earth was not the center of the universe, it merely realised it. Man, created being that he/she is, realised what had been true all along. God knew it when He made it. You will know for certain, when your mortal life is over, the absolute truth of what already is as well. I pray it will not be too late and that you will have come, in your earthly life, to know for a fact, that God is real, loves you and made a way to save you from your sins through His only son, Jesus Christ. John 3:16. If not, your experience of the truth will be long and unpleasant. Look for truth, God's fingerprints are everywhere around you.

    • Posted By: badlogic @ 10/23/2007 6:13:13 PM

I love the "science is your god" argument. Nope, science is a tool to explore the world around us. We're not replacing one god for another. All we do is look at the world and say "I don't know, let's try to find out". It's much more humble than making extravagant claims about the nature of existence and quoting literature that really doesn't mean anything at all. At some point, people will realize that outrageous pronouncements without proof, are simply fiction or more to the point a form of self delusion.

I unfortunately agree. Like the delusionals comment on god/jesus blessing people with this country. They should have to study of the horrific things Collumbus did to the natives he came across. He did things that make hitler look like a saint.

Well, Collumbus never reached the mainland. Our attrocities would include pushing them to the point of extinction, or too it. Of course the small pox infected blanket will always be a bright spot in american history.
I say he, because we live in a different mindset mostly. We reap the benefits of a long chain of despicable acts. Human history is filled with them unfortunately. This war will go down in history as one of them.

  • Posted By: politicaljunky @ 10/23/2007 6:13:00 PM

Politians need to represent all the people. Unfortunately, this almost never happens. But we need to come as close as possible with our candidate selection. Extreme religious practices certainly almost always is a throw back to the days of hanging people who don't have the same opinion or believe. Remember all the so called WITCH HUNTS. But if certain christians think starting a third party is going to make a difference in their power. I say let it happen. They will soon find out what segregation is all about.

  • Posted By: pfachief @ 10/23/2007 5:46:27 PM

Put Christ back in the schools, back in government, back in the hearts of the American people. If we all follow his teachings, there will be no problems in this country. Without Him we have no hope. With Him we can do anything. The Founding Fathers knew this. Why do we let other minority religions determine whom we worship and where we do so? Our politicians have forgotten their maker. That is why we are in the mess we are in and will be in until the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Count on it.

I disagree. Although there are some finatical christians, they don't carry the power of the internet or the local staions that the finatical left wing does and therefore they are not heard as loudly as the radical left. There is a difference between descent and personal attacks that the left wing does not understand. All parties should be heard equally and the majority should prevail, not those who shout the loudest and hate the most.

  • Posted By: diablo_tn @ 10/23/2007 3:14:21 PM

Many conservative Christians seem to be very narrow mined and fail to consider the overall picture. Many vote for a candiate strictly based on the candiate's position on abortion, gay issues, prayer in school and so called family values. But some of these people turn a blind eye to an immoral war in which tens of thousands of innocent people have died. They rally behind a president who does not seem to give a darn about the middle class working stiffs, but cuts taxes for the richest. Does it not bother these people to know their civil liberties are being attacked by the present administration? I have heard many of these people refer to the US as a Christian country. The US never was a Christian country, thank God. Our country was founded on an important principle. There is seperation of church and state. Why does anyone feel they have a right to impose their values on others? Vote for the candiate who is going to make life better for you, your family and your neighbors. The place to teach Christian values is in the Church. Not by decree of government or in the schools. Christ said, render unto Caesar, that which is Caesar's and unto God, that which is God's. STOP TRING TO MAKE THEM BOTH THE SAME.

    • Posted By: bluestar1 @ 10/23/2007 3:24:56 PM

Again, one who is short on the facts. the Seperatio of Church and State was intended to keep the State out of the Church, not the other way around. Jefferson and the founders were afraid of the State influencing the true Godly principles on which America was founded. Taxes were cut for everyone, which is why there is more money going to the federal government than at any time in our history. It's the very same thing the JFK advocated, cut taxes and revenues INCREASE, because more folks can hire more folks, whihch increases tax revenue. This is BASIC ECONOMICS that liberals refuse to acknowledge. Stop being jealous of people who are wealthy...they pay more than 80% of the country's taxes as it is. Lastly, what is immoral is NOT winning this war against the Islamo-fascists who want you and me dead, Get behind the cause, help us win this thing, and then you will be safe to continue to parade your ignorance on the internet. God bless America, as He has for 150 years!

      • Posted By: sweetdave @ 10/23/2007 3:44:10 PM

I consider myself a devout Christian and I love our great country, but what you say is incorrect. The pilgrims who fled Europe, fled interference by the Church. For instance, the King of England was also head of the Church. Many of our founding fathers were Deists, Masons and even Atheists. The Country was comprised of mostly Christians, ergo..many of the rights and freedoms implicit in The Constitution mirror not only the British Constitution, but more significantly, The Magan Carta.....

When Englishmen left their homeland to establish colonies in the New World, they brought with them charters guaranteeing that they and their heirs would "have and enjoy all liberties and immunities of free and natural subjects." Scant generations later, when these American colonists raised arms against their mother country, they were fighting not for new freedoms but to preserve liberties that dated to the 13th century.

When representatives of the young republic of the United States gathered to draft a constitution, they turned to the legal system they knew and admired--English common law as evolved from Magna Carta. The conceptual debt to the great charter is particularly obvious: the American Constitution is "the Supreme Law of the Land," just as the rights granted by Magna Carta were not to be arbitrarily canceled by subsequent English laws.

This heritage is most clearly apparent in our Bill of Rights. The fifth amendment guarantees

No person shall...be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law

Written 575 years earlier, Magna Carta declares

No freeman shall be taken, imprisoned,...or in any other way destroyed...except by the lawful judgment of his peers, or by the law of the land. To no one will we sell, to none will we deny or delay, right or justice.

In 1957 the American Bar Association acknowledged the debt American law and constitutionalism had to Magna Carta and English common law by erecting a monument at Runnymede. Yet, as close as Magna Carta and American concepts of liberty are, they remain distinct. Magna Carta is a charter of ancient liberties guaranteed by a king to his subjects; the Constitution of the United States is the establishment of a government by and for "We the People."

Then by your reasoning since Churches are tax exempt entities, designed that way to keep government out of Church, then it makes sense that to keep there tax exempt status it should be a two way street. Keep your tax exempt status but in the trade off Churches cannot publicly support certain canidates and cannot tell their congregations to vote for them. If they do they should surender their tax exempt status since they are advocating a merging of church and state.

        • Posted By: bluestar1 @ 10/23/2007 3:41:36 PM

I agree totally. But this applies to both sides for sure. I see more Democrat candidates speaking at Black churches than any other, and most of the time they are criticizing the conservative leadership. But I totally agree with you. If a church violates this rule, they should forego their status.

Would she/he do something about the fact that this great country was recently listed my Unicef at the buttom of all industrial western countries in terms of child well-being? is the philosophy of the Christian right: we want you to be born, at all cost, but once you are born, you are on your own baby!!!! I remember daddy Bush said back in 1990 that "American cannot afford to give mothers more than two week paid maternity leave!" Of course not, we need the money to fight wars!! Sorry I forgot. Well, where are the family values then? And now recently baby Bush wants to veto the child bill. Next day he shamelessly begs congress for more war funds. Are these Christian values?

My wife is getting ready for maternity leave. 12 weeks would be great. Since I know we both agree that she deserves the time off, should I send you the bill? At her regular salary, that would be $12,000. What, you can't pay that. I guess I can raise your taxes. You don't want your taxes raised? I guess her place of employment can raise the prices of their services to cover this expense. Someone has to pay, after all my wife needs the time off. It must be the government's responsibility. Or wait, just maybe this isn't a government problem, but my problem. The government's problem is protecting us from terrorists who want to kill us. Could be the reason we are in Iraq, but after reading all these posts, maybe the army needs to come home and take care of those right wing terrorists!

But that is not a society, that is a collection of self-centered selfish individuals, not a society. I am ashamed to say that we are a heartless and very sick society, myopic, brutal, crime ridden.
