Miami hotels are going to the dogs--literally. For jet-setters who can't bear to leave Rover at home, the Tony Mayfair House Hotel is offering man's-best-friend packages starting at $215 a night--including a Milk-Bone or cat-shaped peanut-butter cake at check-in and a French Provencal doggie bed with a handmade pillow. "For a lot of people, dogs are their surrogate children," says a hotel rep. There's even doggie room service: finely diced beef tartare for $24 a plate or pan-seared ground chicken served with carrots for dogs on a low-fat diet (mayfairhousehotel.com). Now other south Florida hotels are courting the canine set. The Loews Miami Beach Hotel has a special menu for vegetarian dogs, and the Coconut Grove Ritz-Carlton provides the hound with its very own brush-wielding butler (see loweshotel.com and ritzcarlton.com for prices). Not heading to Miami? Try the book "Great Vacations for You & Your Dog" ($19.95) or www.petswelcome.com for dog-loving lodging nationwide. Fido can have all the joys of home, and without those pesky mailmen.
