NO DRUGS, This world is messed up enough, we don't need a future where its entire people are messed up/stoned. You wouldn't want the person who designs/builds/maintains the airplane you fly in to have had a morning cappuccino and a joint. Clear up your heads and focus on your responsibility to make this world a better place. I see too many pot heads already in and around the National University that I attend, in one of the most educated cities in the US. I am already starting to see an America that is not a bright as I remember. I can???t believe how many pipe/bong shops there are around campus, doesn't anyone care anymore or are they lighting up as well. It truly makes me sick.

I agree, I responded in much the same way you did to a post that suggested that Obama should legalize pot here in the US. I listed about 30 occupations that I would not want done by someone who was high on pot. Just imagine anyone in the medical field including pharmacists, firefighters, police officers, judges, teachers, preschool/childcare providers, pilots, oil tanker captains, ferryboat captains, nuclear plant operators, ant the list goes on...think about it folks!

Loriw, when you inject Obamas name in a statement like this, you are subliminally suggesting he supports this cause, which will mis-lead a lot of people who aren't informed. Mr. Obama has not, and did not in any way take a position on this issue, neither did Mr. McCain. Second point, are you naive enough to believe of all the occupations you mentioned, that there is not a widespread abuse of cannabis? Listen carefully. There are more ways today to mask the use of cannabis, that you can smoke a joint this morning and pass a drug test in the afternoon. The train has left the station. I am not embracing legalizing common use, but if there are proven medical advantages to its use, then it shouild be controlled.

I did not intend that in any way. The person who originally wrote the post I think was Dreffin and I responded to his comments. I apologize, I do not believe that Sen. Obama would want to legalize pot.
I hope you will accept this sincere apology.

And yeah, why is this article coming up now?

Yes, I agree that nobody should be high on pot while doing any of those jobs -- but I wouldn't want my airplane pilot drunk, either. And alcohol is legal. Alcohol is actually a far far more dangerous drug than marijuana (just look at the number of deaths from each), yet we have developed ways to deal with the fact that it is legal, and in many cases we just trust that people have enough personal responsibility not to teach or anything while drunk. For example, pilots must take breathalyzer tests -- why couldn't they test for marijuana as well? Many companies already require drug tests when hiring. As for potheads at universities, first of all, there are many many more people who drink at universities than smoke weed (I too attend a university), and believe me, people sound a lot more intelligent when high than when drunk. And, to be honest, I do work for the public service center on campus, and a majority of the people whom I see out to change the world also sometimes smoke pot on weekends--more so than the general student population. I wouldn't worry about the potheads forgetting that they should be trying to make the world a better place.
