It's that ethnic cleansing? Shouldn't they get harsher punishment for something that serious. We have a big problem here in LA with the illegals and the crime brought here by them. More needs to be done to keep them out first and then we need to deport the ones that shouldn't be here that are making a mess of our city and country. This has been going on for numerous years... This is a long range plan by the Mexican Political Orgs. in and out of the US. to kill whites and Blacks. The Feds have never released the Security Files on these orgs. La Rasa etc. These Mexican Prosecutors will roll over, they can not be trusted... The pro immigration movent will have an even more profound determental effect on on the US in the future if these in sanity is not stopped. WAKE UP AMERICA......

This is a very interesting article. I'm glad that this issue has gotten National attention. The area that the Florencia 13 dominates used to be a very nice area for working-class people, predominately African-American with some Hispanic residents. It's so disturbing to see that over the years, the demographic shift in population has led to the decline in the neighborhood, but the quality of life that was once enjoyed by those residents that are now older in age. The gang tension between F13's and East Coast Crips is one that I felt just by being in the neighborhood. My presence as an African American female was definitely not welcomed and I could feel it. I commend Sheriff Baca for making a concentrated effort for more patrol and specialized undercover task forces in the Florence-Firestone community.
I hope Newsweek writes a series of articles on this issue in the Los Angeles area. It's more rampant than many people realize. It saddens me to think that innocent people have been targeted.

Movie - Do I believe this is a "hate crime" absolutely! And should they get the harshest penalty possible, absolutely! But -- where in this article does it say that all of these Latinos are illegal aliens? You have just portrayed yourself as someone who stereotypes in a racist manner as well by making that assumption.

So when the Bloods and the Crypts go after each other and those that they may believe can be affiliated to the rival gang, do they charge them with a hate crime? Is it really racially motivated or turf gang wars? In my opinion this is more about competition and race becomes a factor because of the obvious differences. It's no different when it's black on black crime. I would hardly call this a racial cleansing.
