it is interesting that he compares the two. I can see a slight correlation, but the historical facts are not supportive of Darmans findings. England is very much okay with being under female leadership when Elizabeth takes the throne. Im not saying that she doesnt face scrutiny because she is a woman, however that isnt the issue at hand for the English. The movie by Kapar isnt the greatest place to base your historical facts-but it is a good flick!!! Every movie portrays her differently, and every author has a different bias.

BS -- All politicians have the same problem, and can choose the same approach as that suggested for both Queens.

As I see it, just the mention of the "gender" card is proof enough she is more confused than ever. If in defending yourself because you cannot answer questions that men pose to you for the chance to run for the highest office, or attempting to evade answers because you don'''' t have any, is a sure indication that any excuse to hide behind your ignorance is just sheer stupidity. All the liberals and the feminists certainly have a problem if they need to keep convincing the public they are who they think they are. Hasn''t it always been a fact that when you are secure in yourself there is no need to prove it? If her first response is to run to the feminists she is certainly not tough enough to lead a country. " Off with his head, off with hs head," Doonseberry just lowered the boom of Her Majesty Hillary 1. He alluded that Hillary may have her own intern scandal if elected. Not the " L' rumor Gary, not the " L" rumor.

A friend of mine after watching last night`s debate [?] said over grits and eggs, that Hillary looked a lot like Ice Cream, but in the end will taste like old fish. I asked him who he ws going to vote for. He said Hillary. I said that makes no sense after what you just said. He said, " I like the taste of old fish."
If he wasn`t a college dean, I might not have taken him seriously. Many of us will eat old fish ths time around and fine that Vitamin E isn`t so bad.l. She will be like Nixon, getting us out of Viet Nam,. she will get us out of Iraq. She won`t solve any other of our problems because they have no cure except a dreadful depression or a more dreadful big time war.

I dont see comparison with a queen, then again I'm not british and didn't know Elizabeth. What I do know is that America is hated around the world. I also know that only the Clintons, Hillary and Bill, are the ones to repair that damage. Hillary has been brilliant in suggesting that she send Bill as a Roaming World Ambassador to foreign countries. The future is globalization, like it or not.
Hillary has always dominated "hometown" issues. She was the only person willing to and knowing enough to take on healthcare back in the 90's. Seemed no one wanted to help her then, seems everyone is catching up to her now.
I'm ready for a change from Bush in Washington. I'm a Republican Gal but I know and understand the consequences of this next election and I know Hillary is the best choice- democrat or republican.

Hillary is okay. She will be fun to have in the White House. She will have no problem with anybody after dealing with Mr. Bill for 35 years. She will make a fine president. It will be great when she recruits Rosie O`Donnell to be Bill`s secret sevice guard. Four years of Bill and the beast. He won`t be able to break wind without the Queen of Nice watching him. No Chocha for Mr. President. It would make it all worthwhile watching the Patron Saint of all male swine behaving himself for 48 months. Bill might as well become a Pict, they wee ancient Scottish warriors who painted themselves blue.

Sir Walter Raleigh was an explorer = who gave us the doubtful pleasures of tobacco. It was Sir Francis Drake who defeated the Spanish Armada.

Um.. Wasn't it Sir Francis Drake who defeated the Spanish Armada? Raleigh was an explorer.

Don't trust her; won't vote for her. The next presidential election will be the 9th I've voted in. Just once before I die, I'd like to feel that the person I'm voting for is principled and honest, not owned and managed by competing interest groups who by definition don't give a rat's rear end for the rest of us. Hillary is the embodiment of triangulation: I have no idea of anything she really believes in besides power. Of course, she looks better than the hypocrites and dolts on the other side, but I'll vote for a Cocker Spaniel before I'll vote for her or any them.

I'm not a Hillary fan, but this article makes me defend her. (Perhaps this is the purpose in the article???)When will we get beyond gender and look at leadership skills?
The last sentence of this article is the most obsurd of all. We don't care if powerful men end up alone. World leaders are in it for the power, not for the warm fuzzies of love surrounding them. That is not unique to men.

Don't like her. Won't vote for her.

I am a bonafide Bush hater. I thought I was done with the GOP - but not if the dems give us Bush/Clinton/bushlite/clitnon -- ugh

  • Posted By: gustafus21 @ 10/29/2007 10:44:31 AM

I'm one of those women who just cannot tolerate the woman. I'm 60 - sworn off the GOP - loath Bush/Cheney/Chertoff/Wolfowitz/Ledeen/Kristol/ and Israel.

But I'm back in their lovin arms if the Dems are foolish enough to nominate Preparation H.

I like Alter, but he doesn't know women. His view that a powerful woman must be lonely is not at all reality based. His notion is utterly sexist. Hillary has a good relationhip with her daughter, an affectionate still-living mother, a super involved husband and a coterie of sincere friends. The lonliest women are not successful professionals, the lonliest women are isolated housewives, mothers of small children, and powerless women in general. Does Alter not have a wife? Does he not work with women?

    • Posted By: TooDamnDumb @ 10/29/2007 9:31:57 AM

The problem for Hillary is that some of her coterie of devoted friends may have been a little to devoted.

I have read accounts of the " Virgin Queen " and this queen was not a Claifornia queen but a Tudor Queen. There is no record or even bawdy limmerick accusing her of jousting from the other side of the lists. Lorena Babbit must have learned a thing or two about cutting the little lead off from Queen Lizzie because her majesty was always cutting off the big head of lovers who dissed her.
Hillary is going to,get a hard time from the right wing conspiracy. They will trot out every rumor from Wellsley to Washington. They will teach us all a neo acronym,LUG.*** until Graduation. Hillary doesn`t like girls, every since being married to Bill, she has had to treat them all as possible date bait for Bill. Bill had a lot of vices but he never committed the 11th commandment of southern white trash, " Don`t cull split tails."
Hillary may establish beheading as a humane form of execution in certain cases. If she does, she will be a real Queen of Hearts, and a president for the history books. Barbara Striesand and Jenny Flowers better join Al Qeada if they know what`s good for them.

One of the most important thing we can do, is to get our "good name" back with other Western countries. As soon as we get the Clintons back iln the White House we have gone a long way toward that endeavor. They loved them overseas and they appreciated their intellect.

This was a very thoughtful piece. I wonder if we will get such a thoughtful piece on the complexity of running as an African American man. If Obama speaks too authentically to the African American community White folks without cultural proficiency won't vote for him. If he speaks to White folks he is criticized for abandoning "his community". The lack of critical coverage that the media has given Clinton is identical to the lack of critical coverage given to George Bush. While there is no doubt she is much more competent does that mean she should have the job? This campaign has soured me on the power of the journalistic community.

I think that Hillary over rates herself with "when you get to be our age, it's kind of nice to have all these men obsessed with you."
I don't know of any that are "obsessed" in any way. I would still like to hear some tought questions from the press to all about just what are their quafications to be president. Where have they lead and what results. What have they done other that be political. Where all have they been a leader, not just "Trust me, I'm you man/girl.
