Afrocuban: Anyone who claims to be in the ight but hates his brother is still in the darkness. Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him. 1 John 2:9-11

I believe in spirts and fallen angels and stuff like that not because of my mind, but because of my religion. Im a roman catholic. this stuff is interesting but peole need to realize that there are just somethings in the world that can't, shouldn't, or won't be explained.

"not because of my mind but because of my religion""

      Where is your religion manifested..

      in your MIND

Do you people not think when typing things like that?

  • Posted By: figit4 @ 10/31/2007 7:34:29 PM

If you read the book "The Secret" you would know that you can manifest what you want. Past realtives , freinds or former residents of your abode, didn't leave becuase we still want them around or thye want to be with us. Children in puberty can move things(poltergiest) becuase there minds want it or need somehting to happen and it does, there minds are making what they can't say to us.. Negative energy attracts negative spirts , as positive attracts positive. Former residents can be made to leave it they bother you. The ones that don't leave , are residual energy, like a old movie replaying over and over. Either way they have something to say they want us to hear. All timelines of reality are hapening all at the same time and sometimes bleed thru to ours. just treat the living and the non living with respect and you will get it in return. My Ghostly freinds protect my home and keep me company, even when they change the TV or Radio station to something they want to hear.Wether they are human , elementals , ghosts or past love ones all they want is Love and respect, and the right to express themselves.

      "you would know"

Sorry did not know that just because something has pages and a binding, it is automatically sound. And 100% correct

  • Posted By: josephjohnson55555 @ 10/31/2007 10:22:07 PM

Believing in God means to respond to His love by obeying His commandments, and living out the Gospel in our daily lives, out of love for Him. So it does call for a response. Just saying "I believe" is not enough.

If you are oppressed or possesed by a demon or demons, you need to go to a Catholic Priest, who will initially help you and if needed he will refer you to an exoricist priest assigned by the Bishop of your particular Diocese. The Catholic Church was instituted by Jesus and commissioned by Him, and has been around for 2000 years. Since the Catholic Church was founded by Jesus, it alone has the authority given by Christ to expel demons. While Protestant "Bible" churches may help in some cases by invoking the holy name of Jesus in prayer, thet lack the Saramental authority of the Catholic exorcist priests who work under the commision and authority of a Bishop, the successors of the Apostles. Also those interested should read "An exorcist tells his story" by Father Gabriel Amorth, a Catholic exorcist Priest, in Rome. He has been battling demons for decades and has information and knowledge in his book that is truly remarkable. He himself was trained by an exorcist from Rome who at that time had been doing exorcisms since the early part of the 20th century.

We are all one body in Christ. Anytime we say or do hurtful things to others, we are infecting our own bodies. "Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy Mercy. Amen."

Battling demons and selling books - truly remarkable!

      • Posted By: scareman222 @ 10/31/2007 9:51:22 PM

What does the supernatural have to do with Christ. I have an easier time believing in the supernatural than in a book and in hear say of 2000 years ago. At least in the search for ghost I come up with tangible evidence ( I've been doing it for 20 years) when I search for God, I find even less evidence. Why should it be Christ? why not Budda, or Muhammed? This has nothing to do with a particular religion, it's a bigger picture than most or all people see.

      • Posted By: josephjohnson55555 @ 10/31/2007 9:31:30 PM

Father Amorth writing a book to share his experiences is the same as a medical Doctor writing a book to share his experinces with treating illnesses. The devil and the demons would be really happy if exorcist Priests and those who battle evil spirits kept quiet. It serves evil well because evil prefers darkness to the Light.

How come only the mentally challenged or religous fanatics see these "spirits".? No one I know of that lives a normal lifestyle has any of these encounters.

Etepen-I am neither mentally challenged nor a religious fanatic and I have had several paranormal experiences. Perhaps, like you, the people you associate with are simply closed minded and oblivious. Try being open and receptive, and a whole lot less judgemental.

        Do you practice a religion?

        • Posted By: Cap'n Rita @ 10/31/2007 9:10:46 PM

I am spiritual, but not christian. I consider myself a lapsed Pagan as not all of that Path resonates with me.

What kind of lifestyle do you live? What is your occupation? How would you describe your friends?

            • Posted By: Cap'n Rita @ 10/31/2007 9:25:02 PM

I am an upper middle class married white female mother of 3 and guardian of another. A retail manager. I attended a major university with studies in Anthropology, but did not graduate. My friends are diverse and well educated. Not all believe in the paranormal, but respect differing opinions.
              How about yourself?

              • Posted By: etepen @ 10/31/2007 9:35:33 PM

Married middle class male father of 2. Bachelor of Science with steady gainful employment. I do not know of anyone in my field or education (or social circle) who has had a paranormal experience. Not trying to be negative, but don't you think studies in anthropology would lead to some of your thought pattern. I wish there was a way to continue this conversation, but have to go. Thanks!

                • Posted By: Cap'n Rita @ 10/31/2007 10:02:25 PM

Your commet regarding my studies in Anthropolgy would have some merit if but for the fact that I had has many experiences BEFORE going to college.
If anything anthropolgy has made me understand that there are far too many ways of looking at a question to every have a definitive answer. We all have our own reality and our own way of processing it. Perspectives in black and white are very rarely how things really are.
Have you ever actually discussed this topic with your friends? An honest, non-judgemental discussion without fear of castigation? I think it might be time.
                  It's been interesting.

In fact, I currently live in a house where many unexplained things occur. We laugh it off and make jokes about our "ghost". Obviously, we have explored rational explanations for what is going on, but have found none so far.

      • Posted By: Cap'n Rita @ 10/31/2007 9:09:29 PM

Oops-sorrya bout that. Not mentally challenged-but obviously not terribly familiar with the quirks of this site.

Dear researcher... You Trying to explain what you do not even understand, please, bring more convincing arguments to this panel. Plus, all this domapime explanation it is basic ... Please most of believers don't even care about "biological research" to explain what they've seen or feel. I,ve gone many times to another level and reading this kind of articles does not inspire me to take a cientific point of view

    • Posted By: thereal yeti @ 10/31/2007 10:01:46 PM

"care about 'biological research"'to explain what they've seen or feel"

      Translation...

No believes carea bout factual evidence of the mind! We don't care about how our minds work, we just wan't to believe in what we believe! LEAVE US BE!

religious folk are soo messed up, if god is so great, he aint gonna be to concerned whether or not i believe in him and therefore i dont have to be concerned about eternity and his opinion of me in the afterlife, and if the greatest gift god gave us is life then you better focus on that otherwise youll regret that til the end of eternity and god will be upset too because you would have wasted the best gift being too concerned about the afterlife.

  • Posted By: danice @ 10/31/2007 5:53:32 PM

I do not believe in ghosts, it is something that is simply not real. Strange sightings are simply explained by shadows and normal sounds. Ghosts do not exist in the way that Halloween make some people believe. When a person is dead, they are dead. They do not come back and tell us things or do things in the form of a ghost. The dead speak through science and forensics.

I'm sorry for anyone who hasn't had a 'supernatural' experience. They are mesmerizing, phenomenal and and life altering!

This article sucks... your opinion does not have any facts or insight into unexplained things. Do you believe in anything? Just because you cannot see it, touch it, or feel it... does not mean it isn't real. You should try... TRY to open your mind up to it and then give your opinion cause all I'm seeing is a educated person who doesn't believe in something and giving their opinion without any facts.

    • Posted By: yogibear1979 @ 10/31/2007 9:55:19 PM

Without any facts? The author has data and testing to back it up. Did you read the article? You sure gave your opinion in your comment. Did you back it up with facts?

    • Posted By: Heloise @ 10/31/2007 6:08:51 PM

The author backs up her claims far better than you are supporting any of yours. It's true. If you can't see it, it's very difficult to believe. There are lots of things that can't be seen with the naked eye, but scientists and researchers discover different methods of seeing them to prove their existance. The reason that the author can confidently make her claims is because there is much more evidence to show that ghosts are a creation of the cognitive mind than that they are some supernatural occurence in the world. This would not be an issue if anyone were able to prove in any scientific fashion that they are real which, at this point, is not seeming to be the case.

How remarkable that we are driven to seek patterns in early childhood. The search fcr meaning, regardless of how insane we interpret it. Expansion. We are seeking, expanding (like the universe, for what we focus upon expands)...what a trip. Who knows? Maybe the patterns are real, and we aren't insane. Oneille

  • Posted By: Oneille9@yahoo.com @ 10/31/2007 9:52:36 PM

What an insight to learn that children seek patterns. We are driven to find meaning. How glorious, if insane in its application. Expansion is the word. The mind expands and sees possibilities. Who knows if they are real? What an exciting journey. Charlotte

  • Posted By: kboggs808 @ 10/31/2007 9:48:30 PM

I've often wondered that perhaps certain phenomena could be coincidence and supernatural simultaneously.. I mean if science can postulate the existence of other universes and dimensions is all that improbable that there could be an occasional intersection between one of these dimensions and our own. Given that idea it seems a small leap of logic, or faith, to conclude that unusual coincidences might be the very indication of such an event. Don't get me worng, I believe in strong skepticism but I also believe that science should never rule out a possible explanantion. Although we have gained a great deal of knowledge, I suspect that there is still much more for us to learn. It would be a shame if we not to learn it because of assumed knowledge.

This is in reference to NJGreenBudd's comment. To live life believing there is a God just to find out there's not, you've lost nothing. BUT, to go through life as a non-believer and in the end find out you were wrong, well my friend, you've lost EVERYTHING!!! Eternity is a very long time

    • Posted By: Willie J @ 10/31/2007 9:47:16 PM

To believe just in case God is real is a poor excuse. Either you believe or you don't you can't hedge your bet!

    • Posted By: thereal yeti @ 10/31/2007 9:46:55 PM

Have you learnt nothing from this article?

It pretty much stats that our beliefs have to do with chemicals in the brain..

What a cruel god, make me skeptical, and then punish me for it?

Sorry bub, pascals wager has been retorted several times...

What if god actually like skeptics over believers? Then you have lost everythign and I had earnt everything.

I've seen ghosts..N dis is true..They are not like d "shadows behind d tree" thingy..they are real..Ghosts n Satan are two different tings dat are closely related..Ghosts bcme like Satan onie wen they are angry..dats wen Satan cme in to dem, n told dem to hurt humans.. If those ghosts are just lost ghosts, as long as u dun disturb dem, dey wont disturb u..I wont talk like dis without experiences..I've seen all kindsa ghosts, all day of my life...I've been possessed umpteenth times dat I can already identified wat kinda ting dat had possessed me..I believe dat my third eye is a Gift frm God, a usage to help spread to evry1 to say dat ghosts are real..Im not d only one in dis world dat haf dis gift..i knew of others around d world too.. So pls, do not say on something dat u r not sure of, something dat u do not see everyday...If u haf my eyes n my sights, den u'll know...

All mammals have different levels of intelligence. We are the most intelligent, but just like a dog, cat, monkey, etc. our intelligence level is limited. As smart as we are, we do not have all of the answers, but that does NOT prove that a big guy floating around in the heavens poofed a wand and made us.
How did everything come into existence? The human race wants the answer to that question SOOOO badly that they are willing to fabricate an answer. Many smart religious leaders have taken a lot of money from dumb humans who are willing to listen the 'genie in the sky' theory.

    • Posted By: josephjohnson55555 @ 10/31/2007 9:44:50 PM

God is not a "genie" in the sky my friend....He is Jesus on the Cross. Look at a crucifix...I mean really look and contemplate it.....God shed His blood for you and gave His life for the forgiveness of your sins....please at least try it...look at a crucifix and I pray He may give you light.

  • Posted By: eshaw11 @ 10/31/2007 9:44:49 PM

when you try to apply logic to those things, you can produce a reasonable answer. however, anything associated with the paranormal or the energies of the universe are not logically explained. therefore, those theories are not applicable.

  • Posted By: Willie J @ 10/31/2007 9:39:06 PM

Back to the topic at hand. Ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night. I have had the bejeebers scared out of me more than once by reflections in my glasses. But there are other times when I have had experiences that defy explanations... out of body experiences..., my 3 year old who remembers my dead father visiting him in the hospital PICU when my son was 3 months old and my dad was dead for 11 months I don't know the answers, I just hope I wil when I die.
