Aspirin
Brand names: Bayer, St. Joseph's
Pros: Reduces risk of a second heart attack for pennies a day. Stops pain, too.
Cons: Too much may cause GI upset and stomach bleeding. Never use for kids.

Ibuprofen
Brand names: Motrin, Advil
Pros: The kids' versions can reduce fever further, and it lasts longer than the others.
Cons: Don't take it if you're dehydrated. It can interfere with kidney function.

Acetaminophen
Brand name: Tylenol
Pros: Easy on the stomach. Least likely to cause bleeding and won't cause ulcers.
Cons: Won't help cramps. Don't use for hangovers; can be toxic with alcohol.
