i didnt like this article. first off, im not Amercian. why does an Amercian citizen or politician CARE what a foreigner thinks? i dont even find americans arrogant. the real word is they have a tendency to put theri foot in theri mouth. in other words.. they pronounce themselves too fast.FRance is an arrogant nation, more so their people. i think any men from any culturral background that can see themselves equal with any other human being, wheter their sex , religion , or race is a ignorant man, but if he publices that others are weaker because of those factors, he then sounds arrogant. i think arrogance reflects insecurities. I do not Beleive that Amercia has shown insecurity in the face of adversity. thats all that matters right now. but if we stepo back , there was never aneed to educate or help nations in the middle east. that is where humility should have come to play.

It is interestingly pointed out that the Democrats are referred to as the "Mommy Party". For what it's worth, the title is absolutely true. Let mommy pay your bills and clean up your messes and whipe your nose. Plus, it proves the point when mentioned that Hillary has been "hammering Obama" for getting "gooey-eyed". Just like a "mommy" to get bitchy with other mommies.
But yes, Americans in general are arrogant and perhaps rightfully so. What other countries do we see picking up the pieces for other countries when they land on their bums? Perhaps our
Lady Liberty can answer that question.
I find nothing wrong with a person of eminant power playing the part. He is after all the President of the United States. I don't think I would want my president to be viewed as a wimp. Peredators feed on wimps.

America does not only need to be humble. It needs to bring to justice war criminals.

nitram, clearspeak that's his point. You need to understand literary nuance a bit more, and not kneejerk react. What he was saying is that although GW seemed to preach the value of humility, he clearly did not heed his own words, which lead to his downfall in the world stage. Please read page two of the article.

I understand the complaints of our president's lack of humility and seeming contradiction in the "uniter" label he ran on. But wasn't his reputation in Texas as governor just that.....a uniter. I believe he did a good job of getting things done because people agreed to work together. I read somewhere that he stated the unwillingness of the two parties to work together at the national level had been one of his greatest disappointments when he had been in office a few years. So sometimes the tendency to "go it your own way" may be, at least in part, a result of the other party pulling another way all the time just to pull the other way and not always on principle. It isn't as if either party has been a "uniter", but ol' George is standing in the way. Both sides want to be right even when they are wrong and they won't budge. Anyway, for the future I do hope for strength and conviction with an amazing amount of approachableness and humility.

GW understands the value of humility? Your kidding right? He has done exactly the opposite of what he said in 2000. "We do it this way;: so should you" should be Dick Cheney and the neo Cons slogan.

Isn't it too bad that the world values brashness and arrogance, when the Son of God said that the meek (humble) shall inherit the earth? It shows you where the world's values really are--opposed to timeless wisdom--doesn't it?

In the 60s America was regarded as a friend and saviour to many countries in the world except of course the comnunist. I am one of the many peolple (may be millions) that received free oatmeals in a school donated by America. America was the helping hand in every sense- political, finance, defence/security, health, food , science and education. But when did it all start that people began to hate America? And why?

Are you kidding me? Hillary sucks

Good article, Mr. Evans.... I had fogotten, to be honest, of Bush's campaign statement about the "Ugly American..." To bad Bush didn't become president, instead of Cheney...!!! TOO BAD FOR THE WORLD, AND ESPECIALLY THE U.S.A...!!!! HOPEFULLY HILLARY WILL REPAIR THE DAMAGE THESE MORONS HAVE DONE...!!!!

  • Posted By: ShowMeLiberty @ 10/30/2007 7:21:51 PM

Mr. Evans, it appears you have not done your research. There is one candidate who is anything but arrogant - Ron Paul. Congressman Paul is the epitome of the honest strength you claim is missing in the current crop of candidates.

Ron Paul has said, "???Politicians don???t amount to much, but ideas do." He regularly credits his supporters for the tremendous success he has had recently. He uses "we" far more often than "I" when speaking of his campaign.

    Ron Paul:
has never voted to raise congressional pay.
has never taken a government-paid junket.
has refused his congressional pension plan (worth millions) on principle.
for over 30 years he has voted for human freedom and liberty, never flip-flopping.
lobbyists don???t even bother knocking on his door, because they know he isn???t for sale.
is the top choice of US Military personnel. The troops have raised more money for him than any other candidate.

If that isn't humble strenght, then the phrase has no meaning.

It's not the media. But I can see you got your catch phrases from the media, and freely use them.

President Bush ran with the understanding from all political parties, that he was a "uniter". What we got was an imposter, a bumbling "decider". Hopefully, Bush will not be able to do much more damage to the country before the next election.

I am independent, so I do not care which party wins. But please America, elect a compitent president next round. Make sure the votes are counted correctly.

If you are too arrogant America, like these postings below, you get incompitent, arrogant leadership.

A Rush puppet are we, Paladin? I prefer original opinions by original thinkers, Didiot.

Evan, you were doing fine till the gratuitous shot at the President at the end...thereby giving example to the arrogance of the "drive-by Media".

I agree it is the media. They thenselves are in for a rude awakening when all their predictions about he 2008 elections are proven wrong by the "silent majority". Because we have had enough of then and goverment and are about to mke a drastic change in history

I think candidates will admit to more realistic self-appraisal when the media stop acting like immature 7th graders. The media has a real role here. It has turned its teeth from its mandate of examining policy and checking factual and fundamental dishonesty and to the sort of snide, nasty and immature scapegoating that pleases the Republicans they pander to and titillates the discontented public.

The jihadists are angry? Is it because the US has been subsidizing the Palestinian Genocide to the tune of 4 to 6 BBBillions dollars per year since circa 1948? Is it because the US invaded Iraq in 1990 under false pretenses and is still there? Can say that I blame them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
