Indian guru Sri Chinmoy was able to lift airplanes and elephants and thousands of people. That's why I believe faith without miracles is empty.

The man can perform miracles and he chooses to perform a carnival trick? I seriously can't believe this passes as an example of a higher power. The 7000lbs one arm lift would certainly be a world record now wouldn't it? Please tell me that's not all there is. GoBiggy, improbability is not a miracle. When all outcomes are statistically improbable but one has to occur and probably wouldn't occur again, it doesn't make it the workings of the magic man in the sky.
Miracles are real. The things that happen in the world around us are examples of what I would like to call everyday miracles. Where do these miracles come from? These miracles come from a higher being, who we address as God. Now was God working through Sri Chinmoy when the man would lift 7,000 lbs? We cannot know for sure, but what we can conclude is that miracles do exist. The definition for miracle from the New Webster Library of Universal Knowledge dictionary is ??? a sensible deviation from the known laws of nature, held to be wrought by a supernatural being; a supernatural event.??? The definition for a miracle includes the belief that there is a higher being involved.
The interesting thing about miracles is that even if you do not believe in them, they still occur. I am not one who believes in the theory of evolution, but for those that do, they would still have to accept the fact that the world was made by a miracle. If the big bang theory really did take place, would that not be a miracle?
So do miracles exist, the answer is most definitely yes. So if our belief in miracles is right, we would have to agree that there is a higher power at work, whatever it may be.

Joe N. : When considering whether something is a miracle or not, we have to first ask ourselves what defines a miracle. The answer will change based on each individual, with some people believing that everything is a miracle in some way, and others believing in only the seemingly impossible to be miracles. We also have to take into account the individuals desire to believe in the miracle, some people will continually make excuses for what others see as miracles, in an attempt to make what they see or experience fit into their own beliefs. The article mentions that for those who do believe in miracles, they are just normal events that have some aura of significance about them that sets them apart to be defined by people as ???miracles???, such as a man of more than usual strength. The article does not bring up that some people, who do believe in miracles, do not accept that an average value with some superior characteristic is miraculous in any way, this does not in any way change the fact that they believe in miracles, only in that they judge miracles on a much higher scale. I myself agree with Mr. Gellman, that miracles exist and that they show up in forms that we can easily brush off as explainable events, but I personally think that there are obvious miracles of a much greater magnitude that we experience in life, and it is up to the individual to discern those.

A beautiful and inspiring piece. Thank you Rabbi Gellman.

wordbeliever: Do you actually think that the world is ending because women got to vote? That man was quite strange.
A classic case of Christian eloquence. Perhaps I should be crucified for not believing? Strange way to come full circle, but somehow appropriate!
And only a fool would say there is no God.
God is a lie perpetuated by fools, who support organizations that defraud weak minded old people, cheat governments out of tax revenue, and offer safe haven to pedophiles and sociopathic zealots who are dragging this planet to its ultimate demise.
That is how I see it (But I do like the desert flowers)
The butterfly and the buzzard fly over the same desert; one sees flowers while the other sees rotting carcasses. They each see what they are looking for. God is real and He performs miracles all the time. At least that is what I see.
God is real,if you need proof because you lack faith, then look how God worked miracles thru his prophet for our age. http://believethesign.com/index.htm
You cant tell me God isnt real, let your science and church doctrine explain what God did thru his prophet for our age. http://believethesign.com/index.htm
