The Real Fake News

It wasn't so bad. It showed that they were organized, collective and prepared to handle the situation. While some may claim it being overly theatrical, pretentious, I beg to differ. It reminds me of the FAQ tab that you often get when accessing a website. It enabled people to get the information that they would have been addressed in a real press conference. Think of it this way, it could have been worse. They could have waited even longer for all of the media to get there and not had a press conference at all. Imagine how much awareness was garnered b/c of this?

FEMA has been faking competence for years why should we be surprised that they'd fake a press conference. FEMA now stands for Forget Emergencies Market the Agency

I am not surprised. I think the answer to the question "Who do you trust to give you the unpolished truth?" is sadly, "none of the above." All news is "faked" to some degree. because no human being is totally objective. Moreover, the public is seen as consumers, not thinking citizens by the media. Why is the "Daily Show" and "Colbert" so popular? Precisely because they make no pretense that their "news" is more accurate than anyone elses'. In fact, most of it is fabricated out of bits of truth. "Truthiness", indeed! It's just too bad the the Bush administration has shown (once again) its ineptitude and poor taste by being stupidly obvious in deception.

Was this article satirical? FEMA's actions to deceive are unacceptable and heads should roll. "No harm, no foul" does not apply in this case, involving public communications about a disaster. - don farrell-

If the tone of this article was satiric it did not sound so! I do not believe that the "no harm no foul" is in order here. This fake press conference should be dealt with publicly and harshly, held up as an example of the WRONG way for a public agency and its civil servannts to behave.
