Boticelli: What about China ,Russia ,India They contribute to GW way more than 10% Those guys aren;t exactly leading the way to a cleaner better planet .No matter what we do selfish short sighted goverments like theirs will undermine our best efforts...Chernobyl is just a small example of the apathy that these countries exhibit. I would love to be optimistic about our future but I cannot help but be realistic!!!

DDelmar: What makes you such a better person than those "religious wackos" when you are here verbally accosting those who have strong beliefs in something? Exactly what is so "wrong" about that??

The floods at Pisa were most likely NOT events that came from the sea, storms, tsunamis. These infrequent events came from the land, farther up the valley. Whether extreme spring melt events, extreme rain farther up the valley or in the mountains. The evidence points to the burials, the water laden silty soils, the miles long remove of the seashore, all caused by riverene events. Dean

Loved the article, it is so nice to have a story of our past to take us away from the reality of the middle classes demise in the hands of George. We are as crushed as the man and his dog under our government.. What will historians have to say about our destruction of the earth and the heart of America.
    Thank you, bonita

boticelli your ingorance is showing again. You need to go back and research Al Gores statements about the effects of Global warming which included fines for cooking outside and smoking and driving vehicles that give emmissions that pollute. Enough said.

The floods that you speak of more likely were the torrents of water and debris coming down the valley TOWARDS the sea. Those same repeated floods and sources of silt are what filled in the ancient harbor , formed the water, sand, and silt laden soils, and moved the seashore so far away. Whether these infrequent catastrophes were sudden spring melts, or monstrous rain events, look to the recent history for indicators.

Once again I am astounded at the level of ignorance we now have in our country. The evidence that the world is undergoing climate change is irrefutable. The glaciers are melting, both poles are melting. It isn't a matter of belief. It's a matter of measurable fact and the measurements are in. The only matter which can even be debated is the extent to which humans are responsible for the warming. Prevaling scientific opinion is that man made emission of greenhouse gasses is indeed responsible at least in part for the climate change. How on Earth did the greatest country in the world come to be led by a religious wacko who won't or can't understand that science unlike crazy religion ins't something that's to be "believed" or not, science is based on hard facts interpreted by the smartest best educated people on the planet. It is just so sad and frightening that half the country picked a leader who thinks an imaginary invisible man with super magic powers should influence governmental policy decisions. It just makes me sick to my stomache

Posted by Issi @11/01/2007 What a pleasant surprise! It's always most interesting when we run across our history in the most unexpected places and ways. I know it will be a major disturbance and cost to tear up those tracks but I hope they find a way. Preserving as much as possible will be benefical to generations to come, so much to learn. I hope they can eventually put together something on film that can travel reaching just as many people as possible.

The 9.00 euros may be a lot of money, but please consider why they're collecting it. It's a very underfunded operation. Hopefully the money collected will go to build the museum they're talking about.

3rd world countries aren't even contributing to global warming considering that about 90% of the population cannot afford a car. We are obligated to fix this because of our power in the world.

Al gore is a polititian. Loosely translated, it means that they'll say what it takes to accomplish their objective. The state of the world has nothing to do with his reports.

I would love to see the museum but if they are charging $9.00 just to look at the site, that is just too much for me.

  • Posted By: boticelli @ 11/01/2007 6:46:21 PM

um, actually cigarettes and barbeques are not contributing to global warming.

  • Posted By: vinciespop @ 11/01/2007 6:46:13 PM

No matter what America does about GW do you really think that all these 3rd world countries who can't even feed their people will ever do anything to help the enviroment? let me answer that question...Hell no they won't.This planet is doomed and the human race is going to get everything the deserve....much pain and suffering!!!

  • Posted By: posture @ 11/01/2007 6:45:30 PM

It is a wonderful thing to discover our past. My hat is off to those who explore.

  • Posted By: picofsky @ 11/01/2007 6:45:10 PM

I would love to see this museum once it gets up and running, but I think it is unfair to charge the public an exorbitant rate to enter. I mean they are already charging $9.00 just to look down on the site?? That is too much.
