My father teaches night classes at our state university and often comes back and remarks at how much his students do not know. He tells me that when he mentions the Vietnam War (ended only 30 some odd years ago) that he might as well be talking about the "Civil War," to them. It never seizes to amaze me at the incredible short term memory that we have inherited. We're able to ingest information and spit it out but not retain anything.

Might as well hang it up, Mr. D: you are preaching to the numb, mindless, conscienceless, zapped, zonked, and completely oblivious american public...just wait until more majors cities start running out of water, or until gas is scarce, or a bomb falls...but by then, alas, it will be too late...between "i don't know" and "i don't care," there is no excuse not to know, and little evidence that the vast majority of comfortable, spoiled, and decadent americans cares...they will not worry until they are inconvenienced, then they'll holler plenty. sigh.
