Comment: Wow, I've read the issues that matter to people on this forum; guns, abortion, gay marraige, but we've got an ECONOMIC CRISIS at the moment! Keep your guns but please consider that we have an impending recession that we will soon begin to feel personally. When hard-working people can't pay the mortgage and lose homes, can't afford to care for their families, pay hospital bills-- our priorities will shift. Bloomberg has been the head of the world's largest financial firm. We need an accountant to balance the budget and I think he's more than qualified. He's a problem solver. I saw him accomplish things in NY after 9/11 when our economy was in shambles.

Comment: What's so "revolutionary" about a billionaire trying to buy a public office? Same old .. same old. Bloomberg is not runniing for office because he loves Jesus or because he loves America. He just wants to keep all his tax cuts. That''s all. If we want a revolution - let's tax the rich to give more to the non-rich. Come to think if, that's what Jesus had in mind when he told the rich billionaire (Bloomberg, Romney, Schwarzenegger) to "sell all you have and give to the poor." Not THAT's a revolution!!!

Comment: Mr. Bloomberg, announce with a slate of potential cabinet appointees, staffers and ambassadors, thirty or so dynamic figures from Liberty Island. You could say something like, "We are here, representatives, of a like mind for progress, from ever corner of this great country. We are here, neither from the left nor the right, we are here, together. We are here because America now faces its greatest challenges to which there is only one answer, inclusiveness. We are here because Americans are ready for solutions. And on November 4, 2008 we will be ready to move forward, all of us, together.

Comment: This stupid war could actually turn into a greater war than you might imagine, considering that the Muslim population is on the rise at about 5 kids per woman (if not more) in every Arab country, which if I don't know if you've noticed that the radical Muslims are the ones most intent on Jihad (they all believe in Jihad) to kill all the Infidels (the infidels being everyone that isn't Muslim).. Did you know that a third (if not more now) of all babies born in France are Muslim? We're going to be seeing Europe turn into Eurabia pretty soon, and I'd like a President that understands this whole matter. I'm for Bloomberg.

Comment: Mr. Bloomberg should be pushed with all expediency to run in this race. He alone is positioned to pull together both Democrats and Republicans in the fight for the American soul. He is pragmatic and stands far above the fray. He seems deeply moral without being offensively religionist. It's time to rebuild America in the world's eyes. This is the man to do it.

My sons and grand sons are also so armed .I will however go to the wall with Bloomberg. If Chuck Hagel, a gun owning anti-abortion, anti-affirmative action maverick says Bloomberg is okay than that`s fine with me.
Bloombrg will end this stupid war and when it`s over we can vote his abortion loving gun grabbing behind out of office with the thanks of a greatful nation and world.

Comment: Why Bloomberg is unellectable as President

    NEWS RELEASE

BLOOMY'S ANTI-GUN HYSTERIA PERPETUATES SOCIAL BIGOTRY AGAINST FIREARMS OWNERS

    BELLEVUE, WA

A new series of anti-gun posters now showing up around
New York City are an affront to law-abiding gun owners, while also
serving as an attempt to scare younger people from pursuing legal gun
ownership, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
    said today.

The signs have two messages: " Guns Open Doors for Young People...Prison
Doors" and the other says "JAIL" in capitol letters, with the "L" being
the image of a Beretta semiautomatic pistol. Only when one gets close to
the sign to read the small print is it apparent that the posters carry
what might constitute as a disclaimer by noting, "Get Caught Carrying
an Illegal Gun, Get 3 1/2 Years in Prison." The posters were sponsored
by the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City, headed by Richard
Aborn, past president of Handgun Control, Inc.

If New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg had his way, said CCRKBA Chairman
Alan Gottlieb, all guns would be illegal. In his Utopian fantasy world,
signs like that would not be confined to the Big Apple, they would also
show up in places like Lander, Wyoming or Ft. Collins, Colorado.

Now it appears Mayor Bloomberg has teamed with one of the most
virulently anti-gun extremists in the nation," he continued. "If
Bloomberg truly wanted to do something about criminal misuse of
firearms, instead of teaming with Aborn to pander social bigotry against
guns and the people who own them, then these posters would carry a
different message so that the average person, looking at the poster from
a distance, would not be left with the impression that guns in general
    are bad."

"If Bloomberg wants us to believe he really isn't trying to take guns
from everyone, he should revise those signs so people can tell the
difference," Gottlieb challenged, "and if he doesn't change the wording,
then he is showing his true colors. As it now stands, Bloomberg is
frightening people into giving up their firearms, or never buying a
firearm in the first place. He is demonizing inanimate objects in the
furtherance of his anti-gun agenda, and planting the subliminal message
that anyone who owns a gun is a criminal who belongs behind bars."

"What is the Citizens Crime Commission," Gottlieb asked. " It's not about
reducing crime, it's about attacking gun ownership. And Mayor Bloomberg
is in bed with this bunch. He should publicly apologize to people who
legally own and carry firearms every day in every corner of this
country. Right now, he is holding up guns and their owners to public
    scorn and ridicule."

DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS USING ADVERTISING TO DESTROY CENTER POLITICS

      WASHINTON, DC

A new series of political advertising is now appearing in print and on television portraying only Republicans and Democrat's in an attempt to suffocate any view held by the non-partisan center. The attempted fascist and conspiratorial tactics are being used to prevent the introduction of new ideas, the dilution of Federal power, and to avoid exposing the ingrained corruption in Washington DC by both parties the committee for Exposing Bull-Sh*t Quoted Articles on the Internet said today.

Comment: I listen to him every Friday on WABC when he speaks with John Gambling. What I do not like about Mr. Bloomberg is that he is non-committal on everything he is asked about. He answers most questions from both sides. "I see it this way, but that being said, I see it the other way too." He never pins his answers down and I'm surprised John Gambling doesn't press him more about that. The article was a puff piece. There were no negatives in it. It was meant to promote. The media in this country do not do anything except promote their own agendas.

Most of what has happened in NYC is due to Giuliani, not Bloomberg. I would say he has started to get a grasp on education in the city, but other than t hat, he is taking credit for programs started un Giuliani. While the writer touches on that, he does nothing to find out the facts behind it, but discredits it instead.

To me his nothing more than a double-talker. He continually straddles both sides of an issue.

Anyway, just my opinion after hearing him speak week-after-week.

Comment: He is possibly the most honest of all (potential) candidates. No false modesty , which i find more deplorable than any character trait known to man. I'd rather a person of sincere logic without pretense running for office on behalf of our Nation, than a bunch of rehtorical cliche lobbers trying to wiggle their way into your lap.

Comment: This plug by Newsweek of Bloomberg is nothing but shameless.. Just like Senators Coleman or LIeberman who change their political stripes to bolster their own ambitions, he is unprincipled and only believes in self-promotion and do not care about what's good for the USA at all. No way!!!!!

Comment: So many of the comments I've read refer to Republicans, Democrats, red states, blue states, left wing, right wing, liberal and conservative. When are the voting people of this country going to wake up and realize there is no longer any difference between the 2 parties? The politicians we vote into office have proven time and time again they no longer represent the citizens of this country. They are there representing themselves and corporate America, with their primary goal being to get as much as they can for themselves while afforded the opportunity. The 2 party system has become totally dysfunctional. They may have different approaches and theories on solving the same problems, but once they get into office, its business as usual. They renege on their promises and nothing gets done. We need an outsider who has the wealth and power to resist bowing down to corporate America, being absorbed by Washington's political machine, and not be afraid to make hard decisions that will benefit the people of this country. Incompetence, corruption, deceit, and arrogance have become the norm with politicians at all levels, and we've gotten to the point where voters have completely lost confidence in the system, and non-voters are apathetic to the point where more and more radical views are being considered. Our government needs a complete overhaul and we need to get back to the fundamental ideals that made this country great. We have lost focus, our international arrogance has made us hated throughout the world, and our aggression in thinking we can convert other governments to our ways is a pipe-dream. Free enterprise is still the best system, and gives every citizen the opportunity to live their dreams, but we have taken it to the next level. Greed, corruption, and a total lack of ethics and morals have lead to a system of free enterprise gone horribly wrong! It's beyond the point where trying something new is worth the risk. Citizens of this country need to seriously consider a third party candidate, and Bloomberg appears to be sincere and doesn't appear to have the need to push any other agenda than to make this country as great as it used to be.

Comment: Texas? You gotta be kidding. Same with the other red states Bloomberg is rerentlessly and aggressively anti-gun. Guliani can be forgiven because he limited his efforts to NYC. Bloomberg sent his minions to sue gun-stores in Virgina.

True, to New Yorkers, the only use for firearms is for yound inner city males to fight duels. Lacking expereince, In more civlized areas, an antigun position will cost you 3-7% of the popular vote, no matter what the other issues are. This is enough to swing most elections. .

George Bush is now president because in the '94 election the incubent Texas governor Ann Richards was not sufficiently pro-firearms so George dubya beat her. And she was very popular otherwise.

Comment: Mike, you can be a patriot and reject the "all out cowboy" culture so many Americans still subscribe to. Gun control, the way Mr. Bloomberg sees it, is not only within the scope of our constitutional rights, but also more patriotic that an absurd idea of self-before-anything.

    • Posted By: drp @ 11/05/2007 15:37:35

Comment: Without arguing the issue of gun-control-- repeated experience shows it absolutely kills you anywhere outside the East and West coast urban areas and a few urban areas on the Great Lakes.

At least Guilaini limited his gun control efforts to NYC alone and ate a little crow with the NRA.. OTOH, perhaps he And Bloomberg are right and New Yorkers really can't control their murderous impulses. But that is not the case for gun-owers out here in fly-over country. And we vote this issue, no matter how much we agree with the candidate on any other ones.

Bloomberg is a refreshing individual and he has genuine concern for our country. Not like the typical politician who is only concerned for themselves. Who can you name that has been elected to any office and actually represents their constituants? It is about time that all politicians do exactly that, represent the people that put them there. Michael Bloomberg is doing that in NYC!

Bloomberg wishes to enforce his personal fanatical views on everyone else. True, he is not antifirearms when it concerns his personal safety-- his security personel are all doubtless well-armed. Why doesn't he take their firearms away?

Comment: It's ironic (and disgusting) how much this article discusses Bloomberg's supposed affinity for patriotism and the ordinary citizens that won our American Revolution, given the fact that he is one of the most active zealots obsessed with stomping out our Second Amendment rights. The founding fathers that he claims to admire are spinning in their graves due to his (sometimes illegal -- see Virginia gun dealer lawsuits) attempts to deny law-abiding, ordinary individuals their innately held right to keep and bear arms for their security that our Constitution guarantees. Perhaps he needs to read up on Paul Revere and our nation's history a litle more.

Mayor Mike had an appealing no-nonsense style going for him for a few years there. But he's made some bad moves since then that have taken the bloom off the rose. That ill-conceived west-side development project was a major mistake; it carried a stong odor of Mike doing a favor for some of his wealthy developer buddies, And this new congestion tax has a lot of ordinary people p-o'd at His Honor. Not to mention the stacked-deck of a commission that's charged with evaluating the proposal. Bloomberg for President? Neva happen!

As far as a Bloomberg candidacy goes, thanks but No thanks. His opportunistic, partisan flip-flopping over the past several years clearly demonstrate that Michael Bloomberg is more interested in ???Michael Bloomberg??? than he is interested in ???public service.???

He???s the billionaire mayor of New York, and his NYC mayoral candidacy was about adding another feather to his hat. Today???s (filthy) rich, after becoming bored with the money, like to use that money to run for public office precisely because they can use their obscene amounts of cash to overwhelm an opponent.

Moreover, WHAT has Michael Bloomberg actually done for New York City as mayor?

    (nothing)

The (much-needed) improvements to NYC were started by Giuliani (and I???m still not going to vote for Giuliani), not Bloomberg. Bloomberg just continued Giuliani???s initiatives ??? big deal. It???s like Bush ???41??? after Reagan??? where???s the beef?

In any case, Bloomberg is, essentially, a LIBERAL, and all he would do is hurt the Democratic nominee???s chances of winning the Electoral College, because the fact of his liberalism would be plainly evident, and Bloomberg would not carry one ???Red??? state.

Newsweek need not foist its fanciful love affair with Bloomberg upon the rest of U.S., masquerading as ???news.???

Comment: This story reads like a paid advertisement. Bloomberg may be phenomenal for all I know, but I can't remember the last time I read a pumped-up encomium like this in a supposedly "objective" publication. The language used is over the top: "Patriotism???of the merit-badge-earning, flag-waving kind???was in his blood." And: "Bloomberg is among the best showmen and leaders at work in American politics." And: "What is not open to question is Bloomberg's steadiness, self-confidence and apparent sanity." The writer calls on the ghosts of Paul Revere and Norman Rockwell to keep spiritual company with Bloomberg. We learn, from no less neutral a source than his sister, that Bloomberg is "a towering intellect."
The writer asserts "that he wants to overcome such divisions of religion, race and class is a tribute to his determination to make the most, and the best, of everything." The writer even did enough research to be able to say "He has been a good father to his two daughters." Come on, guys! In one sense it's refreshing to read a journalistic piece about a politician that does not cynically imply he is venal and manufactured. But surely there is a middle ground between that and a a panegyric.
