I am a recent Iraq war veteran. I am also a college student majoring in International Relations. For the last year or so I've been following the possibility of a Bloomberg candidacy, and at this point, if he makes the decison to throw in his lot, he has my vote. Neither of the traditional parties says much to me other than that I'm in for more-of-the-same mis-government. Their candidates are stale. Traditionally I have voted Republican ( two for Bush, to my chagrin), but that has been for a lack of better options. I sincerely hope that in '08 Mayor Bloomberg runs for the Presidency. He has my moderate vote.

If you say you were with Bush then, how sure are you that you are right with Bloomberg now? He is a self-promoting politician with no priniciples but his own self aggandization even if that means treading on American's rights. If Bush was scary, Bloo, bers is way scarier.

This plug by Newsweek of Bloomberg is nothing but shameless.. Just like Senators Coleman or LIeberman who change their political stripes to bolster their own ambitions, he is unprincipled and only believes in self-promotion and do not care about what's good for the USA at all. No way!!!!!

Another educated person showing his smarts! What is higher, the rounds you can stuff into your 44 magnum or your IQ?

Cultural bigotry at its clueless finest. Actually, gunowners tend to be more affluent and better educated than the average American. Bloomberg wishes to enforce his personal fanatical views on everyone else. True, he is not antifirearms when it concerns his personal safety-- his security personel are all doubtless well-armed. Why doesn't he take their firearms away?

    NEWS RELEASE
BLOOMY???S ANTI-GUN HYSTERIA PERPETUATES SOCIAL BIGOTRY AGAINST FIREARMS,
    OWNERS
BELLEVUE, WA ??? A new series of anti-gun posters now showing up around
New York City are an affront to law-abiding gun owners, while also
serving as an attempt to scare younger people from pursuing legal gun
ownership, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms
    said today.

The signs have two messages: ???Guns Open Doors for Young People...Prison
Doors??? and the other says ???JAIL??? in capitol letters, with the ???L??? being
the image of a Beretta semiautomatic pistol. Only when one gets close to
the sign to read the small print is it apparent that the posters carry
what might constitute as a ???disclaimer??? by noting, ???Get Caught Carrying
an Illegal Gun, Get 3 1/2 Years in Prison.??? The posters were sponsored
by the Citizens Crime Commission of New York City, headed by Richard
Aborn, past president of Handgun Control, Inc.

???If New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg had his way,??? said CCRKBA Chairman
Alan Gottlieb, ???all guns would be illegal. In his Utopian fantasy world,
signs like that would not be confined to the Big Apple, they would also
show up in places like Lander, Wyoming or Ft. Collins, Colorado.

???Now it appears Mayor Bloomberg has teamed with one of the most
virulently anti-gun extremists in the nation,??? he continued. ???If
Bloomberg truly wanted to do something about criminal misuse of
firearms, instead of teaming with Aborn to pander social bigotry against
guns and the people who own them, then these posters would carry a
different message so that the average person, looking at the poster from
a distance, would not be left with the impression that guns in general
    are bad.

???If Bloomberg wants us to believe he really isn???t trying to take guns
from everyone, heshould revise those signs so people can tell the
difference,??? Gottlieb challenged, ???and if he doesn???t change the wording,
then he is showing his true colors. As it now stands, Bloomberg is
frightening people into giving up their firearms, or never buying a
firearm in the first place. He is demonizing inanimate objects in the
furtherance of his anti-gun agenda, and planting the subliminal message
that anyone who owns a gun is a criminal who belongs behind bars.

???What is the Citizens Crime Commission,??? Gottlieb asked. ???It???s not about
reducing crime, it???s about attacking gun ownership. And Mayor Bloomberg
is in bed with this bunch. He should publicly apologize to people who
legally own and carry firearms every day in every corner of this
country. Right now, he is holding up guns and their owners to public
    scorn and ridicule.???

A very well-done article, in my opinion. I will have to do more research, of course, and find out in-depth about the various issues he supports, but if Bloomberg decides to run, I believe my vote will go to him.
In addition, I am an Eagle Scout, and the fact that he is one too makes a deep impression on me.

This is exactly the kind of smart savvy leadership that our country so desparatly needs. His experience is building highly successful private and public organizations on a large scale is invaluable. And he is not beholden to any private interest groups. This is genuine "turning the page"

I like his talk and I feel he will walk his talk unlike other candidates. We are due for some changes in government, however can one man break the system which is controlled by private interest groups???

I agree with not voting a billionaire into the whitehouse, could any one be farther away from the middleclass, ie: the majority of voters and their ideals, when was the last time this cooshy pretty boy ever got his hands dirty, and i dont mean just physical labor, i mean normal stuff like yard work or helping clean the house, I know the answer is years, and its because he has some one to do it for him, how can we really expect any of these golden spoon canidates to know whats best for America, when their lives are too easy to start with

So many of the comments I've read refer to Republicans, Democrats, red states, blue states, left wing, right wing, liberal and conservative. When are the voting people of this country going to wake up and realize there is no longer any difference between the 2 parties? The politicians we vote into office have proven time and time again they no longer represent the citizens of this country. They are there representing themselves and corporate America, with their primary goal being to get as much as they can for themselves while afforded the opportunity. The 2 party system has become totally dysfunctional. They may have different approaches and theories on solving the same problems, but once they get into office, its business as usual. They renege on their promises and nothing gets done. We need an outsider who has the wealth and power to resist bowing down to corporate America, being absorbed by Washington's political machine, and not be afraid to make hard decisions that will benefit the people of this country. Incompetence, corruption, deceit, and arrogance have become the norm with politicians at all levels, and we've gotten to the point where voters have completely lost confidence in the system, and non-voters are apathetic to the point where more and more radical views are being considered. Our government needs a complete overhaul and we need to get back to the fundamental ideals that made this country great. We have lost focus, our international arrogance has made us hated throughout the world, and our aggression in thinking we can convert other governments to our ways is a pipe-dream. Free enterprise is still the best system, and gives every citizen the opportunity to live their dreams, but we have taken it to the next level. Greed, corruption, and a total lack of ethics and morals have lead to a system of free enterprise gone horribly wrong! It's beyond the point where trying something new is worth the risk. Citizens of this country need to seriously consider a third party candidate, and Bloomberg appears to be sincere and doesn't appear to have the need to push any other agenda than to make this country as great as it used to be.

Government has become a cesspool for cronyism. Senator John Thune's aide, a Republican does not know why prosecutions are based on gender. To expound a Man in Sioux Falls South Dakota is on trial for using 2 security numbers illegally. He was charged with aggravated identity theft. Yet the Inspector General's office investigated a woman who has used 31 social security numbers to commit financial felonies and will not be prosecuted. Court documents at southdakotagov.info show the sad story of how the government has become a cesspool of crony ism.

Government is worthless. I just talked to Senator John Thune's aide about identity theft. A man is on trial in Sioux Falls SD for using 2 social security numbers illegally yet a woman who has used 31 social security numbers she does not get prosecuted. Laws are not enforced equally and prosecution is based on money or gender. Google southdakotagov.info on court docuemtns.

Bloomberg is a joke. Just because he has money, he thinks he can do anything. He hasn't a snowball's chance in hell to amount to anything. Money's not everything, so get off your high horse and stick your money where the sun don't shine.

    • Posted By: samjco @ 11/05/2007 3:42:51 PM

Seems to me that Mike has amounted to quite a bit already. This doesn't mean you have to like him, but get off your own high rorse. Bloomberg is a refreshing individual and he has genuine concern for our country. Not like the typical politician who is only concerned for themselves. Who can you name that has been elected to any office and actually represents their constituants? It is about time that all politicians do exactly that, represent the people that put them there. Michael Bloomberg is doing that in NYC!

  • Posted By: sfbarna @ 11/05/2007 2:01:44 PM

Mike, you can be a patriot and reject the "all out cowboy" culture so many Americans still subscribe to. Gun control, the way Mr. Bloomberg sees it, is not only within the scope of our constitutional rights, but also more patriotic that an absurd idea of self-before-anything.

    • Posted By: drp @ 11/05/2007 3:37:35 PM

Without arguing the issue of gun-control-- repeated experience shows it absolutely kills you anywhere outside the East and West coast urban areas and a few urban areas on the Great Lakes.

At least Guilaini limited his gun control efforts to NYC alone and ate a little crow with the NRA.. OTOH, perhaps he And Bloomberg are right and New Yorkers really can't control their murderous impulses. But that is not the case for gun-owers out here in fly-over country. And we vote this issue, no matter how much we agree with the candidate on any other ones.
