Maybe the easiest way to quit smoking is not to start smoking at all. Children and teens do not want to be smoking adults in the future, but they are curious and want to try everything available or accessible. To prevent children from smoking we should remove all smoking adults from their way, and erase all advertisement from any mass media. The more realistic way to avoid smoking from childhoodis to take a look at your own child, kiss him, and even you are smoker yourself , you will fill if he had smoked a cigarette today.

Nonetheless, there's hope for a less smoky future for U.S. teens. Sure, nearly a quarter of high-school students smoke—but that's down from 36 percent in 1997. And it means three-quarters of high-school students abstain. "Why would I waste my time doing something that would eventually kill me," says Will Peterson, 16, of Elmhurst, Ill. "I think I would let a lot of people down, including my little sister. It's a waste of money, too." He also watched his grandma die of lung cancer and saw "how crushing it was" for his family. It goes to show that even the influence of celebrity smokers and tobacco companies has its limits.
Update: On Tuesday, Oregon voters defeated the ballot initiative that would have increased Oregon's cigarette tax by 85 cents and funded health care for children. Tobacco companies spent more than $10 million opposing the measure. "They know that every time the cigarette tax is raised, consumption goes down, especially among kids. Kids have less disposable income than adults do, so they're more susceptible to price increases," says Joel Spivak of the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. "They have to recruit kids in order to keep their customer base because their older smokers are dying off."
