if the country cannot take care of its vets then its a country not worth fighting for. think again before going into the service. no conventional war, bomb them from the air, thats why we are the might, use our heads not our children!

I would like to know why Congress does not pass the VA budget and why they have even considered cutting money to provide for our veterans on the front lines and here at home. Whatever our sons and daughters need out there and here should be provided without reserve. The very idea of not providing enought equipment, weapons, food, and support, is too heinous to consider!! Our Congress people need to serve and represent us, the regular people out here in America. Every person who serves in Congress should have to spend one year on the frontlines in the military in a danger zone as a private. Then that person should have to work in a factory line position, or agricultural position as a hired hand, for a year, and at minimum wage. Maybe then, they would not try to raise taxes, block our controlling our own social security money, and generally damage the economy with their decisions. Who are they representing, because it is not me, and certainly not the average American. I have a son in the army in Iraq, and a son in the Marines..

May I say thanks to you Marissa on this Veteran's Day 2007. Your sacrifice means a lot to us Americans and the Iraqi people. I'm quite sure that it isn't easy for you to be a double amputee. Yet, the main thing is that
you haven't given up. Take care.

I am not now, nor have I ever been apart of any branch of the Military. I may not agree with everything my president does, and I may not think that we should be over there, fighting for a country that really doesn't want us there. But what I am apart of is this country, this red, white and blue, and every soldier that has fought and been killed, or injured for this country and all the A$$ holes that live here. Most of you don't deserve the rights and freedoms, you are given because your tiny little brains can't begin to comprehend what a soldier has to do for this country, for me, for YOU, just so you can type some stupid message about GWB. Spend some of your useless energy supporting your troops instead of bad mouthing them. Godbless all the Soldiers, God bless Marissa Strock, and God bless the USA.

Thank you for protecting us by your service to this country. And double thank you for not giving up on life. May God Bless you and all you do.

this article isn't meant to be about the rightness or wrongness of war, it's about a member of the military who has lived through her experience, and is getting on with her life. Whenever you get on one of these sites and feel you need to put your 2 cents in thank a veteran that you can enjoy free speech. Tell a holacaust survivor that war is wrong or better yet, go visit one of the concentration camps.

I fully agree I am a 100% disabled Vet form the Iraq, War. I would not change anything that I have done, we were sent to this War without a choice. I could not say no matter how I felt, that I am not going. I don't know if their are terriost's there, all I know it was a lot of unfortunate people, with a lower standard of living and no communication. I was one of the first in country and the people had no idea what was going on. I made many friends in that country, and helped many people. Yes! I was also blown up by an I.E.D. lets just say I am not mad, about what happened. What does does piss me off to end is all the illegal aliens, in this country we are the weakest nation as far as that, take Europe for example it does not happen. I want to know what I went to war for? So some Mexican can sneak over here get drunk wreck a car kill someone, and have the Police say well in their country it's different, doing this all with no licensce. Land of the Free, what can I say. I am on a 100% disability from the VA, but I cant get Social Security, I guess because I am an American Citizen who almost died for their country. The illegal Aliens have more of a right to it then you do, they don't pay taxes, so why should I. I spent 12 years of my life in the Army until I was Medically Discharged last year. Wake America, are your going to lose this country!!

Before I start getting a lot of racist comments I am not. also I am very proud of my Military carreer I was a lifer. I just can't figure out for the life of me with plastic hip, and shin, crushed vertabrae, and wrist implants, and a concusion. I don't understand how Social Security works in this country, me and her could probably get a 100% just for PTSD. Granite I respect her she lost two legs, I almost lost one but thanks to German Doc's. They were able to rebuild it.

You would have been exacuted for saying that in Iraq a few years ago. The freedom you enjoy now keeps you safe. This privelage was not enjoyed till we stepped in to Iraq for the Iraqi people. Until you go over there and look a child in the face and then come back and say the same thing in you safe comfortable house don 't make such comments about a President who has not had anything but good intentions. He could have had Iraq pay it's debt to us by giving oil back but instead forgave there debt. We are there as human beings. If you had a heart and seen the thing soldiers have seen you would understand. The media only reports what gets ratings not the good hearted stuff. I watched children be used as pawns in Iraq and thank God my children don't have to deal with what I have seen over there.

I want to know why our men and women in Congress have threatened to reduce funding to our soldiers. I would also like to know why they care so little for our people that they would not put funding for the VA budget and other measures for our soldiers first on their agenda to pass with all the money needed. Whether or not we agree with the war, these are our people out there and here at home after they've returned. They deserve the best in equipment, weaponry, medical care, benefits, and support that American has to offer. We need to make each member of Congress serve a full term in a danger zone as a regular private. Then, we need to require each member of Congress to serve one year in a factory, or agricultural environment making minimum wage. Maybe then they wold actually serve(hah) and properly represent us. Who are they really representing these days? They sure aren't serving our best interests by blocking measures to let us control our own social security, wanting to raise taxes (let them eat cake kind of thinking) and so many other bad decisions. They sure aren't putting my, or my family's interests at the forefront.. I have a son in the Army in Iraq, and a son serving in the Marines. I am proud of their service.

    Dear Marissa,

Thanks for your sacrifice for our country. I realize that being a double amputee is hardly a piece of cake. But, your determination is the most important entity that will keep you going daily. Enjoy Veteran's Day 2007. I certainly hope that you reach your goals come January. Take care.

Forget about going to the VA....it sucks. After waiting for months for an appointment, they refer you to a psychiatrist who really doesn't care what you have to say, as they hear it all day long. Then, he dispenses you enough medication to open your own pharmacy, while getting addicted. It's a rollercoaster ride you will never get off of.

As a female, and one that has deployed two times I want to say how much I appreciate your positive attitude and your positive comments. Newsweek most recently ran an article about 3 females and their experiences/views on deployment - not the three I would have chosen for such an article.... whiners for the most part.

It bothers me when Soldiers return and have a negative experience with getting help; this hasn't been the case with you and that is wonderful to read about. Whether or not you agree with the war isn't really the issue and thanks to you for taking the center of attention off of that.

I appreciate the positive light you shed on Soldiers, your positive attitude and how much good has come from your willingness to share your story - thanks!
