Eric, I think you might consider embarking on a little research project of your own. NAIC has never endorsed a single measure to regulate puppy mills. Besides that, it is friendly with such groups as Friends of Fur, Liam's Hunting Directory (foxhunting group), Marine Mammal Hunting, Fur Commission USA, Fur Institute of Canada, National Trappers Association, Outdoor Amusement Business Association (circus group), Feld Entertainment (Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus, which is being sued for animal abuse http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/358571/ringling_brothers_circus_facing_charges.html?page=2), Pro Rodeo (rodeo group), EcoNot (an anti-environmental group)...the list goes on and on. Oh, and its board has included Joan Berosini, the wife of Bobby Berosini, notorious for beating orangutans who performed in his Las Vegas act (video here http://video.aol.com/video-detail/animal-abuse-bobby-berosini-torturing-beating-orangutans/1637531119). P.S. the authenticity of the recording was upheld in a court of law.

And NAIA also quotes from lobbyist Rick Berman and CCF

The Big Tobacco lobbyist. The liquor industry lobbyist. The pro-animal abuse lobbyist.

It's all about the (untaxed!) money for NAIA! The shady business of dog breeding and more.

NAIA is a PRO-animal abuse organization.

It PRETENDS to be an animal welfare organization to try to con money out of people, but NAIA supports animal abuse and profiteering.

Patti Strand (of NAIA) is a LOBBYIST for the PUPPY MILL INDUSTRY.

Patti Strand is also on the Puppy Mill committee of AKC, and she is one of the reasons that AKC now makes eighty percent of it's income from registering puppy mill dogs. All that puppy mill blood money pays for those dog shows and other vanities! (Patti Strand is also an AKC judge.)

NAIA and Patti Strand and her cronies are in the business of promoting purebred dog sales, and hurting shelters and adoption programs. Patti Strand and her band of dog breeders (and other affiliates) call mixed breeds dogs, for example, "defective mutts that should be killed." Since the HSUS has exposed puppy mill cruelty, and asks for rules and laws for dog breeders, Patti Strand and other NAIA members smear HSUS and other humane groups at every opportunity.

One tactic they use is the smear tactic of calling humane groups "terrorists." Meanwhile, Patti Strand and her NAIA members are running unlicensed businesses and not reporting income and not paying taxes.

Money is the root concern of NAIA, as well as hurting pet adoption programs and people who work in humane groups, and manipulating people to buy from puppy mills and purebred dog breeders.

I think it's sad that HSUS and other organizations are wasting time and money helping make animals "feel better" before they are slaughtered for food (e.g., "bigger cages").

Kind of like giving a warm cup of hot chocolate to people lined up to enter a gas chamber.

    Wayne isn't aiming high enough.

Do your research Bennett. Here are NAIA's position statements on everything relating to dogs:

I'm assuming that most people on here can read (hopefully). With this said, I'll leave it that and let viewers decide for themselves: straight from the horse's mouth or your seemingly angry diatribe.

I myself grew up loving animals. It just seemed that it was meant to be. The idea that they were important enough to be here meant that they indeed are special and serve a purpose. Not one of torture or the fact that people eat their flesh. Far from this. It has always bothered me that people feel it is okay to treat a creature in some of the most barbaric ways and not think anything about it. What does that say about the human race?

I think that the HSUS has done a great deal to make changes for all animals. This is one of the biggest animal organizations in the U.S., along with the other organizations that are trying to change the lives of animals. But the fact remains, if humans have to admit to what they do as torture, they would then have to stop doing it. They would have to stop eating their flesh, and they aren't about to do this. They love the taste of flesh to much.

Keep up the good work HSUS. We need more organizations like yours!

Wayne Pacelle is one of the most thoughtful, intelligent, and compassionate people I have grown to enjoy and respect. Thank you for the insight into how Wayne got to where he is. I'm so grateful for people like him, and others who are NOT afraid to stand up against cruelty to other beings.

It's not surprising that the posters who are critical of the HSUS are mouthpieces for well-known puppy mill proponents. As Americans become more aware of the unregulated trade in puppies and are appropriately outraged, those who profit from puppy mills are becoming desperate and lashing out with ridiculos fabrications.

  • Posted By: bennett6252 @ 11/14/2007 1:10:18 PM

You can get a good taste of what dog breeders (and other profiteers) stoop to by posts like erics. They will make up any lie, any fabrication to fight off laws or rules or even anti-cruelty laws.

They want to keep operating in the dark, with absolutely no oversight at all. They want to keep selling sick puppies. They want to keep abusing dogs in puppy mills. They want to keep fighting dogs. They want to keep breeding and selling dogs off the books and tax-free. And they don't care if millions of dogs die every year. They don't care if dogs get abused. As long as they can run their dog shows, promote their breeds, make their cash. And much as in the McCarthy era, they sit at their computers for day after day and rant about humane groups and people involved in dog rescue or sheltering, and they vow to stop adoption programs and hurt the humane community. They fabricate lies, rumors. They build upon paranoid delusions. They hire lobbyists to lie for them. They try to keep the status quo of abuse and suffering, because animals mean money to them.

Answer this benett: If the mandatory sterilization of dogs were to be enacted, then where would all of our dogs come from in 10-20 years from that time?????

  • Posted By: smsdog3 @ 11/14/2007 12:03:15 PM

Thank you Mr. Pacelle for such great leadership with the HSUS! I have been a member of the HSUS for a longtime and will continue to be because of the progress and dedication your organization has shown. Thank you for advocating for ALL animals - companion animals, farm animals, wildlife, etc....Thank you for all that you do!

I watched a program the other night that asserted that the ice age 15,000 years ago spelled doom to large fauna in North and Sounth America. That is clearly false. It has been accepted as fact that the arrival of humans on those continents 17,000 years ago cooincided with the disapearance of large fauna such as the giant sloth and wooly mammoth. It takes a species 50,000 years to adjust to a new species or predator. In Africa animals had the advantage of comingly with these "cunning predators" for over 100,000 years. They adapted to us. In the Americas they didn't have a chance. With the rapid rise in human populations we are squeezing what "wildlife" is left into smaller and smaller boxes. Exploitation is rampant and current projections of extinctions wild populations will leave the majority of wildlife to rodents and crows. You can feel hopeful about the progress of "humane legislation" but you're whistling in the dark. I am frustrated with these cheery outlooks. Tell the truth: According to current data every natural environment wroldwide is in decline and in most cases that decline would be considered critical approaching collapse. If all we have to look forward to is more (happy) livestock and pets you can count me out.

Is there an answer to this disaster. Yeah there is. Climate change. Accorking to a large contingent of climatoligists there will only be 20% of the humans alive at the end of this century as there are now. It is sad to admit it but only through the steep decline of human population will there be an opportunity for other life on Earth.

Animal rights activists posting on here seem to believe (and want YOU to believe) that the use of any animal for any reason constitutes as "abuse and exploitation driven solely by profit". How ridiculous. Here is the difference between animal rights and animal welfare.

    ANIMAL WELFARE
Animal Welfare, as defined by the American Veterinary Medical Association, is a human responsibility that encompasses all aspects of animal well-being, including proper housing, management, disease prevention and treatment, responsible care, humane handling, and, when necessary, humane euthansia.

Animal welfare proponents seek to improve the treatment and well-being of animals.
Animal welfare proponents believe that humans can interact with animals in entertainment, industry, sport and recreation, and industry, but that the interaction should include provisions for the proper care and management for all animals involved.
Animal welfare proponents support self-regulation of animal sports, including rodeo, polo, three-day eventing, FFA competitions, horse racing, field trials and endurance riding.
Animal welfare groups utilize scientific evidence to base animal care and handling guidelines.
    ANIMAL RIGHTS
Animal Rights is a philosophical view that animals have rights similar or the same as humans. True animal rights proponents believe that humans do not have the right to use animals at all. Animal rights proponents wish to ban all use of animals by humans.

Animal rights proponents support laws and regulations that would prohibit rodeos, horse racing, circuses, hunting, life-saving medical research using animals, raising of livestock for food, petting zoos, marine parks , breeding of purebred pets and any use of animals for industry, entertainment, sport or recreation.
Animal rights proponents believe that violence, misinformation and publicity stunts are valid uses of funding donated to their tax-exempt organizations for the purpose of helping animals.
Arson, vandalism and assault are common tactics used by underground animal rights groups to further the animal rights cause. Groups such as the Animal Liberation Front, which have been classified as terrorist by the FBI, routinely use criminal activities to further their cause.

More on Rick Berman and CCF (Center For Consumer Freedom)

Yes, this is the man that NAIA and AKC DOG BREEDERS are here quoting and providing links to as they attempt to use Rick Berman's words to smear HSUS.

    http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?articleId=8984

"His activities continue to be less about educating consumers than about safeguarding industry profits."

And so too for dog breeders. And why they hate humane groups of all kinds,m including HSUS.

  • Posted By: bennett6252 @ 11/13/2007 11:31:39 PM

Consumerdeception.com is run by a CONSUMER group, because Rick Berman also smears food safety groups, nutrition interests, health groups- anyone who might expose the truth about the huge corporate industries that Rick Berman takes millions of dollars from.

Rick Berman and CCF are all about the money, much like the dog breeding industry. Which is why dog breeders quote Rick Berman and CCF.

  • Posted By: eric-716 @ 11/13/2007 11:15:07 PM

Consumerdeception is a PETA run site. So much for credibility there....

  • Posted By: eric-716 @ 11/13/2007 11:09:51 PM

    Keep spinning, bennett.

  • Posted By: bennett6252 @ 11/13/2007 10:52:25 PM

And why do the dog breeders all hate humane groups? Because the dog breeders are all running underground, off-the-books businesses. No licenses. No reported income. Not paying taxes. Usually breaking local zoning laws and health codes and dog limit laws.

They make a LOT of money under the table, and they want to keep it that way.

Selling dogs and puppies. Stud fees. Boarding. Training. Dog show activities. Handling and showing.

They also benefit from puppy mill registration fees generated by the AKC, which is what pays for all those dog shows and breed clubs and purebred dog promotion.

So these self-described reputable breeders hate humane groups or anyone who wants to see better regulations, laws to protect the dogs and consumers, crackdowns on puppy mills, and anti-cruelty laws that might impinge on their secret incomes and expose their businesses.

    It's all about the money.

Where to find all these anti-humane dog breeders? They are in your state. The NAIA members, breed clubs, federations of breed clubs, responsible dog owner groups (code for for-profit dog breeders), AKC legislative liasions. They are all madly fighting against any kind of rules or regulations, fighting to keep the puppy mills in business, fighting to stay off the books, fighting to stay unlicensed, smearing humane groups of every kind.

And take a close look at these breeders. Where are the business licenses? Where are the tax payments? How many dogs do they really have? How many litters are they really producing?, It's all hush hush.

  • Posted By: bennett6252 @ 11/13/2007 10:37:07 PM

And many of these dog breeders are connected to Rick Berman of CCF fame (who not only receives millions of dollars to smear humane groups on behalf of animal killing businesses, but also smears MADD for the liquor industry.)

Rick Berman owns and runs all these sites like animal scam, and all the others that smear humane groups.

Big money corporate animal killers who will say or do anything to keep abusing and killing.

And the AKC people and dog breeders magically quote Rick Berman and CCF and try to get people to view his propaganda.

Funny, isn't it? All the animal profiteers sound alike.
