I support the Humane Society 100% and it's efforts. I wish there was a Humane Society (Branch) closer to Chester, VA and I would work there. It is sad that there is a comment from etbmfa saying negative comments about the Humane Society, especially since this person says they want you to join a group that is truly working for animals. Here is the thing about animal lovers, even though each animal organization ahs a different name, we are all on the same team and fighting for the same cause at the end of the day. The Humane Society of the United States does not downgrade other animal organizations. I will continue to support the Humane Society physically and financially as well as take on any animal cruelty within my area. Thank you to all the animal lovers out there!

If you believe in treating animals humanely AND you care about sick humans, give your money to Americans For Medical Progress (www.amprogress.org) - not to HSUS.

It is tiresome to hear that same "food chain" canard yet again. You can be an ethical carnivore or an indiscriminate one. By chosing cage-free eggs, meats from places like Whole Foods and Niman Ranch, and milk from small farmers, you make life bearable for countless sentient animals. And the more people who patronize humane farms, the lower the prices. There's no reason to be proud of denying humane treatment to those creatures who provide nourishment, Sheldon.

It is thrilling to see a CEO living in accord with his values. Animal shelters exist to clean up the problems created by pet overpopulation and animal exploitation (i.e., breeding dog for fighting). The Humane Society is dealing with larger issues in an effort to prevent the need for shelters. To me that makes it the most "humane" of organizations.

It is inspiring to see a CEO who sticks by his values. Animal shelters are there to clean up the problems of pet overpopulation and animal exploitation (i.e., breeding dog for fighting). Wayne is an inspiration to animal advocates worldwide. We should all work to make a positive impact in our own way. Check out Wayne's blog for tips on how you can help the animals every day. http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2007/09/engagement.html

I'm glad that considering the lives and interests of farm animals is becoming mainstream. The magnitude of that problem is right up there with the magnitude of the global destruction of wildlife habitat. Both problems can be helped by individuals thinking more carefully about their choices, whether at the grocery store, when moving house, or at local town hall meetings.

Thank you, Wayne. For me, the moment I realized that my mother???s mink-fur muff???which I adored playing with because it was so soft and fuzzy???felt just like my pet hamster, I knew that I had to do whatever I could to protect animals from cruelty. Whether it is buying clothing made from non-animal sources, spaying and neutering our companion animals or choosing a vegetarian lifestyle the smallest choices we make in our everyday lives can end the suffering of millions of animals.

It's interesting that, as animal advocates, we all have our defining moments. A time when it all snaps and you realize exactly why you care so much for animals. For me, it was the Michael Vick case. Thank you Wayne for being a leader in this fight.
