I'm not sure what world you live in, but we kill thousands of animals every day. What did you eat today?

There has to be a death penalty or some other form of punishment cause almost all of the prisons are setup to house and attempt rehabilitation but there are those who have just done things that can't be rehabilitated. I am not anti-religion just anti-fanatics who aren't looking at the whole picture, like the fact that lets say for this conversation sake that we are talking about a man on death row for raping and killing kids no death penalty means that even if you keep hm in jail for life a Taxpayer is paying for the pervert to stay a live well I don't want to pay and I don't want them dumping them back into society unless that person is being release to a fanactic who hates the death penalty and make them babysit and be legally responsible if that released inmate goes out and does it again then they both go to jail. Love god stay out of politics and the government separation of Church and State and Country was done because to many of you bleeding hearts were not thinking with reality in mind. Reality population is getting bigger planet is not and in the animal world it is called cull the herd they are picky either you are with the herd or your against it and they will kill if they can to make the herd safe. Same in society we must kill or cull the herd to make it safe for the rest of society.

I strongly believe that the death penalty is wrong the bible states thou shalt not kill, it doesnt say thou shalt not kill just non criminals.
But i also feel that we do not do enough to punish these hardcore criminals.. Giving them cable and other amenities that they do not deserve is ridiculous...that is why so many return to prison because they have it so much easier inside. no responsiblities. everything they couldnt get on the outside they get inside and its all free to them. Also as far as there rights when they choose to murder someone they should lose all there rights... what about the person they murdered they took there right to live.
Again we do not have the right to murder or hurt anyone. But God says spare the rod spoil the child and that is what we do with our prisioners

as this nation continues to find excuses to steal our rights, the death penalty should be taken away as more and more innocent fall under the new fascism

@sandman Without the death penalty there would be no Christianity as Jesus would have lived out his life and would not have been martyred.

The death penalty does not have to serve as a deterrent, it is simply a punishment to the most serious crimes. If anything it should be streamlined so that those convicted have to serve less time in prison (on tax payer expense) and be enforced more often to reduce over crowding of jails with repeat offenders/killers. The death penalty does not deter crime because the criminals are not afraid of it. I say lets give living in a world where committing murder assures the criminal a fast pass to the lethal injection chamber a chance. If murder rates do not go down in a decade we can always revert back to the Criminal justice system we have today.

Don't you just love the Christian Republican Doctrine that says, "Life begins at conception and ends at execution."?

I don't understand....They sit on death row for years. If the crime is so severe to send someone to death, why wait. Our prisons are over crowded with prisoners that are there for life (a slumber party that never ends). Why do we as citizens have to pay to feed , cloth, shelter and provide medical and dental to these people. What's wrong with this picture. What about senior citizens and homeless people? Should we build places like prisons to house these people too. Also, provided all the care, with gyms and libraries. I am not for doing more for people that commit crimes and harm others. I do not support life in prison.....I'm for Death penalty and Death penalty why wait..

Okay, for those who invoke religion "Jesus" or whomever into this discussion remember that we do not practice a "state sponsored religion". And that a good thing, very good! If we did, then we'd all have to abide by rules that some of us find incredulous. Some of us might even be stoned from being atheists. So, let's back up a moment and think about that. And, please, practice your religion freely. I love Jesus ranters on the corner and will high-five them because they are doing their thing and it's call Freedom of Speech. I don't want them to tell me what I can do, however, nor should any religious ideology seep into the politics of our country and that includes the state's right to execute a first-degree murderer. YES ! PLEASE, come to the gates of the prison and protest it. This is your right and DO exercise it !

HA HA HA...good try liberal media, the reason our death penalties are down in texas, is because our crime rate is at an all time low...I know you hate to think it but the death penalty works. God you liberal freaks look for any excuse but the truth.

Amen! We need more of the Texan mindset!!

I'm sick of our laws and the justice system. The justice system is becoming a place where a mass murderer can come for a good dinner, exercise, books and TV while his victim, if left alive, has to pay, by his taxes, for the upkeep of the torturture. I'm sorry that I am part of this society. No concern for the weak or hurt only concern for the law breakers... it's a shame.

More hypocrisy from the self-styled "conservatives" who preach about limiting the power of the government, but turn around and grant them the ultimate power, the power to take the life of citizens. Whatever happened to civil rights, whatever happened to "better that 10 guilty people go free than one innocent defendant be wrongly convicted." Who believes the government is infallible? Who believes the government is benevolent? I'm for giving the murder victims friends and relations the weapons and ammunition for extracting vengence on their own, before I would consent to let the government murder its own citizens. How many citizens do we need to mistakenly execute before this country will wake up and join the other first world nations in outlawing capital punishment? It's not that I don't think that some people deserve to die, I just don't think that anyone deserves to die at the hands of their own government, especially a government "of the people, by the people and for the people." Anyone who studies the implementation of the death penalty in this country must realize that, not only is there a disproportionate number of minority and mentally disabled citizens who are executed, but that there are no modern examples of well-off citizens, those who can afford proper legal representation, being sentenced to death, much less executed. Those who crusade for the death penalty are swimming against the tide of history, it will be outlawed everywhere eventually, and demonstrate a callous disregard for human life. Isn't getting physically and sexually abused in prison for the rest of one's life enough vengance for you? Maybe you people should volunteer to carry out the executions yourselves, you sound like you'd probably get a kick out of it.

God said not to kill another, but it's ok because the government does it? If you are for it you are a murderer too. It won't bring back the unfortunate victim but it makes you a murderer too. Inexcusable to condone the death penalty.

People are talking about how cruel the death penalty is. Too many sit on death row for soooooo long, that people forget the absolute hell and terror that these people put their victims through. What kind of a society is so soft that it does not want to get rid of a killer? ....loses perspective and looks at the hainous criminal as the vicim? How about the little girl who's body was just found and was apparently killed by the adult stepfather and friend? Should we just slap their hands?....What happened to justice swift and sure??

    • Posted By: CARLITOS_WAY @ 11/11/2007 10:08:33 PM

oo many sit on death row for soooo long,,,GOOD!!!, better punishment than a sedative and a long sleep. Subsitutes.. LIFE NO PAROLE ,,for exectutions.. Sound more like a hell to me. Saves the State from the money spent on Appeals and exection, which cost more than support for life. Every crime committed while incarecerate, the cell gets smaller, and less hours of sunlight. Make them live a long long life. Don't lower yourself in the name of the State to say murdering people that murder is OK with God, or for your non believers, tell me what you have gained by lowering yourself to kill because of hatred. If it saves a life, I'm for it. If it saves money I'm for it. It it makes the criminal more uncomfortable, I'm for it. Show me with Statistics, what has been gained from murdering a murder!!!

Get rid of the death penalty,no one uses it anyway.I have worked in a prison for 16 years and have only seen two people go to their deaths from death row.The rest was from natural causes. The young ones on death row will out live me.So tell the bleeding heart public and Government to let them sit in their cells the rest of their lives, they will anyway!!!!!!

  • Posted By: Widgit @ 11/11/2007 10:00:53 PM

If lethal injection is too cruel, what say we just kill them the same way they killed their vicims? They can be raped and tortured first; beated to death with a hammer. Yep.....that sounds better.

  • Posted By: kiphuth2 @ 11/11/2007 9:58:28 PM

Have none of you realized one thing! None of these murderers or predators have a conscience! So it would matter not to them how they would be put to death!!

Lethal injection is MURDER. I don't support it. Yes, I know these people who get death commited a horrible crime, but killing them in return does not help the situation. I personally believe that life in prison without parole is worse than getting death. Let them all sit in prison for the rest of their lifes, and let them die in their cells. Their judgement day will come when they have to face God and tell him of all the sins they commited ... I think that's hell enough for anyone.
