It's pretty sad when they worry more about the killer's right's than they do the victim. Too soon they forget the pain and suffering the victim and family has gone through. It would be such a shame if the killer had to feel any pain while he's put to death. Some of these killers have sat on death row for over 25+ years while the defense lawyer files appeal after appeal and gets rich off of it. If they would give a killer life with NO parole I would be all for it. But life doesn't mean life anymore.... Hang um high..

Comment: I am so tired of reading about concern for "cruel and inhuman punishment" for someone who murdered another innocent human being. It is as if their victim did not suffer a cruel and inhuman death. In many cases there is extrime violence, degradation, mutilation of unmentionalble proportions. Then the courts are concerned about the feelings of the criminal???? Shame on our society for taking so long to mete out the deserved punishment for these criminals. With DNA evidence now available, the process should be speeded up with reduced appeal processes so justice can be done without all the fanfare for the media's enjoyment and political manipulation.

Wow, the death penalty too cruel? Many of these people sit on death row for decades, until people forget the victims(Our courts can't even stick with a decision. Once they have been given the death penalty, why do they sit there the rest of their lives?) Why do we make the killers seem like victims? I suppose the stepfather and his friend that raped and killed that darling little girl (just now in the news) should get counseling and a fine? What kind of society allows these kinds of crimes and worries about the perps??

the wealthy convict can often pay their way out. minorities are sentenced to death out of proportion. juries and prosecutors have engaged in misconduct. the innocent have been sentence to die before dna cleared them. the death penalty is an irrevocable punishment. the death penalty requires a perfect justice system. a perfect justice system is not what we have. until that day, true life imprisonment is the only way to go.

    What is proper justice?

Lets get rid of capitol punishment then if its too cruel as a punishment for some of these killers out there. It seems a killer can go out and murder who he wants, in any way he wants, and not get death. people don't seem to care how the victims felt or how much pain they went through. If they will give them life with NO parole then I'm all for it. Most of these killers have no feelings anyway.. God help us....

Danny, you are right - it is about the victim. But perhaps, more importantly, it is about the pursuit of justice. How do we give closure to the families of victims whose lives ended tragicly? To me, life imprisonment without the possibility of parole satisfies this. I want my killer to remember me all the days of their lives, for as long as possible. I deserve to be remembered. Once my killer is put to death, who will remember me then? Time, they say, heals all wounds, but as an aribrator of justice, I do not want to be healed by the slow moving clock of time. I want pictures of me, living life, to be shown in my killer's cell - reminding them of what they took. Killing them, robs me of living my vengence in death. To much blood has been spilt already. To those wrongfully accused, having a lifetime imprisonment without parole, allows true justice to prevail if they are indeed innocent. There are no easy answers, nor should there be. However, I must remember that I too value all life, and I must not go down to the level of those who kill me. I will be the better man.

Could you quantify "those who carry it out" to indicate how many and what percentage of people that actually carry out the penalty are "uncomfortable", or did "both" people you interviewed seem "uncormfortable?" Time for the Main Stream Press to realize that all readers with a brain have caught on to your narrative-based stories. Readers don't subscribe to your narratives, so readership is plummeting. How pitiful propoganda is compared to objective analysis and real reporting. I would expect more from senior reporters.
