    No one is going to like this. Personally, I have a relative whose been on death row for 30 years for alledgely killing and raping a woman. He has basically allready served a life sentence...he is now 58 years old. If he goes down by the death penalty then he basically has been punished twice for the same crime. Where's the justice? I feel that if the death penalty is warrented then it should be done in a timely manner...not 30 or more years. The death penalty should be implemented in punishment for a lot more crimes then it is now. That might help clean up this country. Drug trafficking should be dealt by death. Drugs have ruined many an innocent life either by causing a crime or by creating an addict who will commit a crime to maintain their habit.

      I see your point, but if they had of done it in the beginning then it wouldn't have to be worried with him serving or being punished twice... I hope he rots for what he did but also, I pray for him and you as well. I can't imagine how the woman he forced his *** in felt or how he looked down on her as he was holding her down, or how she looked at him and cried and cried and tried to get away unless he used a knife or something. COWARD! why did he have to rape? there are lose whores out there, go to a bar! NO means NO and I hate to know he is still alive when she isn't.! I feel fer her family and any children she may have had to leave behind because of your husband, father, unlcie, brother, cousin or whomever!

      Again, I see your point and I feel for you and your family but I do not feel for him, he should have gotten the death penalty! Hope he has repented and is very remorseful but am doubtful of that!

        Good lord angel4justice, you are certainly a twisted soul. Of all of the arguments and discussions i have seen on this board you are the only one who felt it necessary to put in a fairly graphic depiction of a rape. On top of that you say you are going to pray fro the man in prison but yet you hate that he is alive...even though being on death row for 30 years means he has not had any chance of doing it again. Loose (not lose, I assume) whores in bars? You do not know a thing about the criminal psyche, rape, murder, or anything of that nature do you? That is just not the way it works.
        As I said you are a twisted soul. And you probably believe that you are a good christian too, don't you?

    But I don't think the person that killed my loved one being put to death would make life fuller for me in the long run.

    Flanders, NO maybe not but it surely means it will not only stop him/her from doing it again to another BUT also, set an example for all these others who think about it or go off the deep end. Please, you couldn't sleep better at night knowing if my daddy killed your mother in some gruesome way, you wouldn't want him DEAD?! BS! I would yours if it were the other way! I would go after anyone and THEIR FAMILY if I had to.

      I'll answer that from my point of view. I would not want to dishonor the memory of any of my loved ones by killing someone in thier name. If i were to catch someone in my home, I would shoot them. If I were protecting my family I would do the same. Self-defense is usually a hot blooded killing. I have no use for killing someone in cold blood 10-20 years after the fact in order to fulfill some strange vengence/revenge fantasy.

          Once again, off topic. What does this have to do with the death penalty? No woman needs to be President? Why not? Is there some defect in women that would cause them to make bad leaders?
          If the nation has not shut down under Shrub I am fairly certain that Hillary Clinton won't shut it down!

            A woman president?? She would only care about the children, which is a great thing, yes, but that is not the only thing a woman could do, she had to be able to retalitate against the countries that are causing us war and soga! She wouldn't do anything about the war but pull us out and that is why we are ok now, we are over there! If we pull out of the war and come back here and let it be, do you really honestly believe they will stop? No come on! She has no clue what she is doing. She makes me sick and I hope she doesn't get to become our president but if she does I am not concerened, someone will assiante her I truly beleive. If Clinton became president, I strongly beleive someone would get rid of her, she is not for this country! She is wrong for us as president. I would rather see her impeached instead of dead but someone out there in this decadent world would get her gone!! Not everyone is going to put her with her. She is saying one thing and will do another once elected and in office. But go ahead support her but don't get on her bad side, she and Bill have people killed all the time when they get nervous about someone spilling their news. google search list of dead people on clintons and when you type that in, see the list that comes up before your eyes!!!!!               Wow, you are a mysogynist too! I have worked for many women in my life and I have always had good experiences with them. What children would Hillary be taking care of exactly? Her daughter is grown and they have no grandchildren. So, in other words, you have no idea what you are talking about. The assasination talk is just asinine, no one would go gunning for her just because she is a woman or because they don't like her. It takes a lot of time, money, and planning to pull off the assasination of a President these days so that is just stupid. I have always loved that "Bill and Hillary have people killed all the time" garbage, it's just as stupid as the only care about the children line.

                You sure do like to rant about something that you know nothing about. When clinton was in office (Bill) economy was strong, people had jobs, we were not at war, and people made enough money to keep their homes. If Hillary is elected it would be like getting 2 presidents for the price of one. She would have the 8 years Bill was in officer (his experience and heer experience during their time there) to fall back on. Women can be very decisive about how to deal with other countries and she would have advisors. Presidents do not make decisions on their own nor do they runa country all by themselves. I wouls like to see this country have a strong leader again instaed of a marionette.

        This is way off of the topic but you have made me curious. How exactly is a U.S. Senator trading with the Chinese? If you are talking about any campaign money she might have gotten you are wrong, it was returned. That, however, would have nothing to do with being "in with the Chinese" or thier trade policies with the U.S. What I.O.U.s do they have on us due to Bill Clinton? You are far off topic with this rant and I am not even sure what you are talking about. Maybe you should get more info? And no, I am not a Clinton supporter. I do support the truth though.

            In the first place, I didn't think that this was a board for private conversations so I can get into it invited or not. In the second place, I was asking a perfectly rational and reasonable question and not attacking anyone, so coming back on me in such a hostile way seems a little over the top. There was no "coming back on you with that crap" Simple questions based on factual information; I just asked you what you were referring to with the attack on Clinton and the Chinese. If you want to have a private conversation about the Presidential election maybe you could find a board that is set up for that purpose.

    Do you think any of the victims of these murderers and rapists were killed without pain and suffering? Were they given an injection to put them to sleep? I bet not. I cannot even imagine the fear the victims suffered. Now everything is about the person in prison. I thought if you committed a crime you lost your rights but it seems to me they have more rights than I do. I guess it makes no difference when the prisoners run the prisons now anyway.

    The Eighth Amendment should not be a right that prisoners deserve. What happened to the rights of the victims? Was the rapist or serial murderer considering the victims Eigth Amendment rights? I will graduate with a criminal justice background and most of my professors will tell you that the criminal justice system treats the criminal better than the victim. We need to stop pandering to the person in jail and remember what they did that put them there in the first place.

    I go back and forth on the death penalty as a punishment but laws get overturned and changed all the time. I remember watching one of the case solved kind of shows sometime back where a killer on death row got off death row by appeal then later when some laws were overturned he managed to get out of prison on parole. This man brutally killed three more women after he was set free. So what do we tell a family that looses a loved one in such a way? For me it isn't a matter of punishment. If a murderer has the opportunity to walk the streets again/kill again....the death penalty is the better option. I dont believe we should use it lightly and never with only circumstantial evidence but I do think there are times when its appropriate.

      Actually he confessed to killing 5 women after he was paroled. He killed 3 children prior to the death penalty being abolished. His sentence was commuted and he was released and killed 5 women. Some people are missing something vital that makes them human. If they lack humanity then they should be shot just like the rabid dogs that they are.

    I am for the death penalty in certain situation's. I live in Nebr and we have had Starkweather, Jubert and a few others. I was only about 10 or 11 when Jubert killed the 2 boys. In this instance he deserved the death penalty. I also remember in those years how scared I was and how there where other boys going missing and they where never found. I figure if you kill a child then they need to pay the price with your life.

    Raise your hand if you didn't want Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin Laden killed. Are any of you raising your hands? Think about the day when those planes crashed into the World Trade Center. Did you think the death penalty was inhumane then? Please don't say that situation is different. Imagine you are the mother/father/sister/brother etc. of a murder victim. Do you consider the death penalty inhumane now? If the death penalty is not the answer then what is? I honestly don't have any suggestions and I don't think anyone else does either. We all agree that criminals must be punished for their crimes but how do we do that? I'm sorry sunshine_bright, but "abolishing mankind's aggressive, violent, and immoral innateness" is not a viable suggestion especially since the topic of discussion was the political/judicial use of the death penalty. I believe there will always be violence in the world so now we have the task of determining ways to deal with it.

    the death penalty is a barbaric relic of mankinds' aggressive and bloody evolution; a process still continuing. mankind is generally violent of thought, aggressive of nature, and rebellious of spirit. until the subjects are adressed in our learning institutions, along with racisim, the blood will flow and the retributions will follow. we are still barbarians. gadgets and psuedo intellectualism, plus use of technology morality issues are destroying us as fast as our continued destruction of our domain. the only important question is what will wipe us out first as a people, unless we all reach for humane enlightenment. the death penalty should be abolished along with all of mankind's aggressive and violent and immoral innateness. live in peace and simplicity and let us all live in peace.

    Unfortunately, the U.S. Judicial system is not perfect which is one cause of the ever-increasing crime rates in America. Criminals who actually committed a crime get off on technicalities, the innocent are imprisoned or sentenced to death. Yet what stops crimes from being committed? The death penalty was supposed to instill fear in those who commit severe crimes. Does it instill fear? I'm not so sure these days. However, I have been studying the death penalty in other countries. When the death penalty was taken away from some countries, the murder and capital crimes rates increased dramatically but when the death penalty was reintroduced those rates dropped again. However, those countries were smaller and considered "developing" countries. In a country the size of the U.S., I'm not so sure the death penalty has much effect. Criminals are no longer afraid that they will receive the death penalty. A new solution must be found and fast before the U.S. crime rate goes up any further. I think that the first step is to examine the judicial system and maybe even reconstruct it.

People with money get off all the time for the same crimes people without money get the death penalty for. A murder is a murder so who should decide if this murder is worse than that murder when in the end someone loss their life. Kill them all or let them all live. Anyone can apologize for what they did and anyone can learn from thier mistakes. But what makes a robbery killer get the death penalty but a pedophile killer get psyciatric help and 20 years whats the difference.
