Comment: My name is Peg Dunbar and since I seem to be the one that is being bashed on this forum, I decided to speak out.
First, I did not say that Senator Edwards was a looser I believe I said he would loose. I apologize for that word. Second, I do not need anyone???s advice on how I pick a candidate or who I choose and then choose again. When I choose a candidate, I look at the slate of Democrats and decide just who is going to not only win the Caucus/Primary, but will win the General Election. That is how I choose my candidate. I know that the slate of Democrats are going to believe and want the things I want for me and our country, so I do not need to look that deep into their resume. But IMO, the most important way to choose a candidate, is to choose the one that will beat the Republicans and get the White House back from the destruction that has been going on for the last seven years. That is where apparently some of the posters on this forum, and I disagree. I was a devoted supporter of John Edwards since July of 2003. IMO he was the one to win the nomination and beat Bush. I was very disappointed in how it turned out. When Edwards announced his candidacy again I once again supported him. But as the months went by my interest in him lessoned. I noticed how angry he was, and his anger was directed to Senator Clinton. Democrats should not be bashing the other candidates they should be telling us what they want to do when they are President and taking on the Republicans. I was also disappointed in how the campaign was going. As I said in the article, Edwards has been in Iowa for over four years, he should be number one, and yet he is in third place. It is close, but Senator Clinton continues to gain. Last nights debate made it even more clearly to me that I have gone to the better candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton.

Comment: "Dewey Beats Truman!" Seems that Wolffe is riding the waves of our great tradition of journalists and pundits accurately putting their finger on the pulse of the nation. Poor guy - this is already old news, things in Iowa have already changed for the better for Edwards and we haven't even hit Nov 19th yet.
Comment: Who are you kidding? The latest Rasmussen poll shows Edwards gaining momentum and within two points of Hillary Clinton.
Comment: Peg Dunbar, you don't see John Edwards going anywhere, and you don't go with a loser???? Well who are YOU? I'll tell you....your like a kid in a playground who follows the leader and then goes any way the popular kid goes...or wind blows. John Edwards needs committed, intelligent people to support him and like him for what he stands for...not flakes like you and the rest of the county chairs.
are.
Comment: I think that these county chairs are only in their position because of their little "POWER TRIP" they get from a media spot lite every 4 years. Who says things like "I only go with winners" ? Oh, I know - they like their finger, stick it in the air, and then see which way the wind blows. Thats the problem in American politics today, the one with the most money that can get the media advertising out gets the most face time and hence gets the lead in the pools without defining themselves on any posiion. The Edwards Campaign has done the best job of making his positions known, throught his recently released "80 page issues guide", and an even more indepth stance on virtually every campaign issue on his web-site on "WHERE HE STANDS". Clinton says nothing but can talk in circle for days (if we are unfortunite enough she will talk in circles for possibly 8 years). And Ohbama preaches hope better than anyone in the campaign (I see glimpses of JFK, and Dr. King) but how is he going to deliver that hope is still unclear, you can not do it through speeches alone, you need strong stance on policy for your position. Not to mention where has the funding come from for the 2 Democratic front runners. That is not change that is old school hope mixed with the new corprate democrat's fund-raising. You can still get into the "BIG-TENT PARTY" if you pay for the ticket price.
As forMr. Wolfe - I truely enjoy your reporting, but don't you woryy that at times yourself and the media mold the electorates decisions for them ?????
Comment: Why does any candidate bbother with Iowa if this is how the people there operate? Anyone has the right to change their minds, but the likes of Peg Dunbar are in it for the power. "I don't go with a loser." Wow, that's a real belief system. If you're not sure who you like, then keep a lower profile and make your choice at the appropriate time. Maybe Giuliani's on to something basically blowing off the early states and their hordes of hick Machiavellis.
Comment: It seems to me that you Richard must be lost in a cornfield which I doubt is anywhere near Iowa. Though I have great respect for both Hillary Clinton and Mr Obama. I believe that it all comes down to the issue of trust for the American people. That is what I believe and John Edwards Has mine.

Comment: The American people are stuck in a bipartisan rut. Its time for somebody different, somebody who thinks for themselves, rather than blindly follow the party platform. John Edwards is just like every other Democrat in Washington. Its time for a change! Its time for a Ron Paul Revolution!!!!
Comment: This kind of biased "news article" is s wonderful sample of the typical garbage coming from the mainstream media that FEARS John Edwards! Did anyone check with identified Hillary or Obama county chairs, to make sure they are all still in place? Somehow, I doubt it. Without that information, this article is meaningless. Yes, Iowa is always fluid - remember the last front-runner, Howard Dean? Let's be a bit more evenhanded?!
Comment: I am so glad this phony's candidacy is dying on the vine. I look forward to seeing him disappear from view forever.
Comment: John Edwards is a winner! He is not just a voice of the people, but the ears of the people as well, at a time when we are yearning to be heard. I was listening to the conservative media here in Dallas the other day when Mark Davis said, "conservatives will crawl through glass to vote against Hillary." That is why there is a constant reporting of her front-runner status - to keep her in front so that the Republicans/conservative media can have a shot at taking the White House that will not exist if Edwards or Obama is the nominee.
Comment: The US government is broken! It will take a major change to alter the landscape of corrupt and unethical politicians, lobbyists, greedy corporate executives, spineless media, and foolish naive people who still believe that Hillary and Bill Clinton will come to the rescue - they are part of the beltway pattern of taking care corporations and lobbyists and politicians - not the American People. If the American people really want representation they will need to fight for it - John Edwards is the answer and the people Mr. Edwards will appoint to be in his cabinet will bring back our rights and our respect and our moral compass.
Comment: John Edwards has the honesty of Abe Lincoln, the leadership of Franklin Roosevelt, the courage of John Kennedy, the brains of Robert Kennedy, and the morals of Jimmy Carter, so let's give him a shot at the presidency. Maybe he really can make life better for millions of Americans, provide health care, end the war, solve global warming, and help our homeless veterans.
Comment: JOHN EDWARDS IS A LOSER!!!! HE COULDN'T WIN IN 2004, WHAT MAKES HIM THIINK HE CAN WIN NOW??? OBAMA IS A LOSER, TOO!!!! 2008 WILL BE A WOMAN'S YEAR!!!!
PRESIDENT HILLARY CLINTON - 2008!!!!
Comment: This superficial report fails to take into account a couple of important facts:
(1) John Edwards's campaign is the only one to *have* chairs in each and every one of Iowa's 99 counties. He is the only presidential candidate to have even visited all of those 99 counties.
(2) The upward movement in the polls for Clinton and Obama were directly related to the millions they spent to blanket the state with repetitive television ads over the past few months. They spent 300 times what Edwards spent over that period -- and yet, it is still a statistical dead heat because the winner of the Iowa caucuses will be the one who appeals to the most as a first OR second choice. If Edwards is still so strong despite his negligible spending in Iowa until the past couple of weeks, that speaks to the strength of his organization and his candidacy, not to television ads that sway the fickle.
I think John Edwards is going to shock the hell out of a lot of people come January 4, when the caucus results are reported.
Comment: It does seem that reporters have a death wish for John Edwards. They report the bad news--- which this certainly is---- but rarely the upside. I hope the Iowans are listening just enough to make them mad. John has such a fine attitude---- he'd be a great human being to have in the White House. A fighter with a heart. A genuine article.
Comment: I think that John Edwards may have the best chance of winning the actual election. Hilary seems to be too busy trying not to step on toes and I think she will ultimately box herself into an unteneable position. Obama says a lot of things I like but I want to see him walk the walk. If leaders need to teach where was he when the vote to confirm Mukasey was taken? What I like most about Edwards is that he has fought corporate america in the court room and won. I like fighters. Winning is good but losing for the right cause beats winning for the wrong one. As Eliot once said, "The last temptation is the greatest treason, to do the right deed for the wrong reason." I hope Edwards keeps it up at least until he gets to California so I can vote for him.
Comment: God help us if Edwards has no chance and if Hillary is a sure thing. The 2008 Presidential race is the Democrats' to lose, an inevitable consequence of Clinton's nomination. Republicans are salivating at the prospect of her candidacy. Iowa gave us Kerry the last time around; "swiftboating" Hillary would be a piece of cake by comparison. Perhaps it's time for a national primary and an end to the Iowa/New Hampshire lopsided influence. As of late their vetting of the candidates has not done the Dems any favors.
Comment: In trouble? I think not. If anything more people seem to be noticing him. No thanks to the media. It took the hard nose approach he has taken against Clinton to get him noticed. Those of us who have been holding our breath ,hoping against hope that Hilary will not be our next Democrat nominee. I will never vote for the lady. I loved her husband but felel that she has never really shown the qualities of what being a Democrat is about. Ask Bill Maher.....
Comment: Richard Wolffe is one of those empty pudits whose job, apparently, is to make sure John Edwards doesn't win the Democratic primary-He has been saying for a LOOOONG time that Edwards is not viable-I am surprised that he is still on Keith Olbermann's show, when he is such an obvious partisan-as an Edwards supporter I am sick of hacks like Wolffe who are for sale-Edwards was BRILLIANT at the last debate-it is a three-way race in Iowa despite the fact that he has been outspent 2 to 1-Millions of us have noted that corporate media, like NEWSWEEK is not for Edwards-they are terrified of his vision for America-but after the last 7 years of corporatism, the country is raedy and yearning for a leader like Edwards-with reporters like Wolffe, it's not surprising that magazine sales are in the dumper-none of us will pay hard-earned money for propaganda.
Comment: Comment: Goodbye to Mr. Ewards
John, we want to thank you for your service to our country. I believe your contribution to this country has been wonderful and it is time that you call it quit and go to your law practice. The office of the president of the United States for 08 is already occupied by Hillary Clinton. At this time you can support her by being positive.
Thank you.
J. Yeaney
Comment: Edwards will win Iowa
It won't be with the help of Newsweek, however, who, along with the rest of the corporate media, has sought to diminish Edwards' campaign. Could this be because these big media conglomerates are scared to death of having a trial attorney in the White House who has fought corporate abuse his whole life? You betcha.
Newsweek is trying to do the same thing to John Edwards that they did to Howard Dean in 2003....but it won't work this time. Why? People all over, Democrats and Republicans alike, are flocking to John Edwards because of his integrity, sincerity, and unwillingness to be part of the corrupt system that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have become players in.
Edwards is doing well in Iowa. He is the only Democrat who has visitted every county and has set up steering committees in each one. Unlike his rivals, he does not bus supporters into events or feed them questions to ask. He is the real deal, and has led on all the issues for working class Americans, long before the others had policy statements on their websites.
Let's remember that at this stage of the game, John Kerry was way behind in Iowa, and Howard Dean was considered a shoo-in back in 2003. I truly believe that this coming January, Iowans will vote for the candidate who represents our best hope of taking back this country for average Americans and ending the strangelhold that big corporations have on our lives. That candidate is John Edwards.
He has my vote.
Comment: The people in Iowa are starting to get it right. John Edwards has done nothing to distinguish himself except attack his fellow candidates. I am glad Ms Dunbar had the wisdom to see that after 4 years Mr Edwards' time has passed and we need a person who can get elected and unite the party.
Comment: John Edwards should be Iowa's choice. He is as genuine as one can expect from any politician and he is the only Democratic candidate who appeals to the independent voters who will ultimately decide this election. Senator Clinton turns off all but the Democratic party loyalists and Senator Obama is unlikely to convince any of the middle americans who voted for President Bush to vote for him. A Democtrat with charisma from the South is the bet shot at taking the White House. Its the only formula that has worked for the dems in nearly 50 years (since Kennedy). I hope voters in early primary states aren't seduced by polls of registered democratic voters. When independents are polled Edwards more than holds his own against every candidate in the race. He can actually sway undecided voters. Hillary's numbers are bleak. Remember when Kerry was selected because he convinced the Democratic party faithful that he was the candidate with the best chance of winning. That didn't turn out so well did it?
Comment: Edwards will win Iowa....
Newsweek's constant attempts to trivialize Edwards' campaign remind me of your attmepts to torpedo Howar Dean in 2003...Could it be that the Washington Post Corporation, which owns Newsweek, is afraid of having a trial attorney who has fought corporate abuse his whole life in the White House?
Edwards is the only candidate standing up for working class families and has picked up several major endorsments--Iowa SEIU, Iowa Postal Workers, Iowans for Sensible Priorities, United Steelworkers, United Mine Workers, New Hampshire SEIU, and more than a dozen other major union endorsements. He now has over 3 million union workers behind him. Edwards was also recently endorsed by Friends of the Earth.
The Iowa race is a dead heat right now, and Edwards stands the best chance of winning. Unlike his rivals, he has visited every county in Iowa, and has steering committees in every county. He best represents average Americans with his values and policies, and, once he wins Iowa, he will win it all!
Comment: The Iowa dems are getting it right. John Edwards has done nothing to distinguish himself in Iowa or anyother state other than being negative and attacking his fellow candidates. Congratulations to Ms Dunbar to know when she has made a mistake and the conviction to admit it and make a change.
Comment: Some of us (apparently a woefully small group) are more concerned about getting the best person available in the White House than we are worried about "going with a loser". If John Edwards surges to the lead in the polls, I'm sure Ms. Dunbar and the other political opportunists will be back in his camp.
No wonder our political system is crumbling...
Comment: John Edwards has the leadership of Abe Lincoln, the courage of John Kennedy, the brains of Robert Kennedy, the idealism of Lyndon Johnson, the morals of Jimmy Carter. Why not give him a shot at the oval office? Don't underestimate his ability to come from behind. He has done it many many times in the courtroom. We are lucky to have someone of his caliber willing to run for president. Defectors simply lack the courage to stand for principle in the face of adversity.
Comment: Well its comforting to see that Iowa is catching on to what we know in NC. EDwrads is aposeur, a fake, an act, a legend in his own mind. A one term senator who did nothing while senator. Hi current positions are contrived to win Iowa, far different from his positions as a senate candidate in 1998, and prez candidate in 2004. We know him best here in NC and its not surprising he's polling behind Clinton. Unfortunatly NC is not an early primary state, he is however polling at about 9% in SC.
Comment: Well its about time the rest of the country caught on to what we know in NC. Edwards is a poseur, a fake, an act, will say and do anything and take whichever side of a position he sees as the winning side. Has no ethics morals, values, or beliefs other than win at any cost. Is anyone surprised he's polling behind HIllary in NC? Just 25% picked Edwards in the most recent NC dem poll,
Comment: It is beyond disgusting that party chairs would switch from Edwards to the candidate they think will win. You back the person whose positions you believe in, not the one that punditry says will win. That is a despicable position! And, considering that the media has blatantly ignored Edwards to focus on the "glamour" story of the woman candidate vs. the black candidate, it's amazing that Edwards has the support in Iowa that he does. Maybe if the media were fawning over him the way they are over the other two, Edwards would be leading. And maybe if people in general focused on the candidates' positions instead of name recognition and "celebrity" status, Edwards would be leading. He has by far the most well-reasoned, detailed policies of any candidate out there. Hey, but maybe that's the problem; people want soundbites, not sound policy statements.
Comment: Gee, Iowa isn't enthralled with the cradle to grave, raise taxes and gee aren't I a pretty, yet feminine man, candidacy of Edwards?
Comment: Another lower tier candidate with no chance. Hasn't been relevent since being waxed by Cheney in the potential VP debate four years ago. Political dead man walking.
Comment: Another lower tier candidate with no chance. Hasn't been relevent since being waxed by Cheney in the potential VP debate four years ago. Political dead man walking.
Comment: Edwards has lost me, too. Not his fault, actually, but rather the fault of his campaign. It just has not capitalized on opportunities the way it should have, and has made some unforgivable gaffs. When it comes to the media, the campaign is naive. And the sad part is that Edwards appears to not understand the problem and shows no signs of making any changes.
Comment: Mr. Wolfe are you really surprised that a couple of Edwards people would leave after you and the folks at MSNBC have consistently either ignored his campaign or run negative stoires? The actual truth of the matter is that Edwards is doing great considering he has gotten little to no national coverage and he just started running ads last week. Obama and Clinton have spent millions and been given free national coverage. I think you are premature in yoru death knell for Edwards. I really hope you have to eat your words come January 3.

Comment: Who is first place? How ridiculous. This is not about who is in first place, this is about going for a candidate you believe, who you think can do the job that needs to be done, and who believes in same things you believe in.
If you change your position it should be because you feel a different candidate is better suited to you, not because they have a better chance of winning.
I support John Edwards not because of the polls, but because I believe he is the best choice???and THAT is what counts.
Comment: Although I am not an Edwards supporter, after reading this article and being born and raised in Iowa (Waterloo), it hurts my heart that these County Chairs don't stick with what they believe but rather 'Who is in 1st Place"! The writer of this article calls them 'Fickle'. I think better words are 'Sell-Out' and 'Disloyal'! With State leadership like this, it makes me glad that I vacated the State years ago. Shame on you county chairs- SHAME!
Comment: I was born and raised in Iowa (Waterloo) and although Edwards will lose there, it hurts my heart that those county Chairs don't stand on what they believe, rather they stand WITH who is in 1st place. This article calls them "Fickle" I think a better description is "Disloyal" and definatley 'Sellout". Shame on thos county chairs-SHAME!
Comment: Well I don't go with losers either, and I support John Edwards 100%. So that tells me he's no loser. I think a lot of people are gonna have a lot of egg on their faces when he wins.
