The feminist movement certianly didnt start in the 1960's. I suppose you could argue that it was the 1960's that brought the movement mainstream and many people would believe that. It only seems that way because the 1960's also offered new forms of media through which information travelled. In other words nothing could be brought into the mainstream before then because there was no stream for it to travel on !!!!! If you want to find the roots of the feminist movement and the first time it was popularized think a little more "Frankly my dear i dont give a damn" and a little less "what a long strange trip its been"....
