    Israel does do a lot of collection here. They do not however intend to overthrow our government or establish a Caliphate. I may not like AIPAC, but Hezbollah has killed more Americans than any group excepting Al-Qaeda. There are likely hundreds of moles in our agencies. A couple of decades of political correctness will do that for you. Used to be they were all white protestant and recruited in College after backgrounds were somewhat clear. The last time I checked, the Mossad has only one guy in our Federal Prison system, there for life. As far as Dearborn, or Fremont Ca. or other communities with large populations subject to foreign exploitation, I am sure we wiretap them, follow them, and are in their banking and such completely. If you think they stumbled across this mole, you are missing the police-state tactics that have evolved here since 9/11. The policy of the US is the survival of Israel, period. I am all for real security on our borders. I also know we need linguists and people fluent in the many dialects we face in the Mid East. I do not hear waves of loyal, America-Loving Muslims applying for these jobs. So as to this traitor, and Her community, I have no pity. Earn my trust in a recruiters office.

      Things have moved on since the days of Hezbollah killing Americans...that was in the 1980's, and they've changed their tactics. Remember, the Viet Cong killed 58,000 Americans, but we get along fine these days with their successors. Obviously it will take a long time before things normalize (if they normalize)...but it's worth understanding that Hezbollah does not target Americans now, and hasn't for many years.

    Why is the word "could" in the sentence about Prouty losing her citizenship. Doesn't the article open with the sentence that she illegally obtained citizenship in the first place? This is absolutley ridiculous! Are we seriousely this unbelievably lost that we even need to discuss the notion of allowing a person to retain a citizenship that is not only illegal, but was used to illegally obtain sensitive information relating to one of our worst current enemies. Really? Are we wasting tax dollars on this? Is it a wonder that people in our nation have given up on our government, and that we are recording such low numbers in people showing up to vote? It's idiotic problems like this that short circuit people's trust and believability that our government has a handle on our current problems.

    To daharbin: While it may be tragic that someone has "lost" their land, when your political leaders start a war against another country and lose, that is the price that you pay The land now belongs to the conqueror and to refer to it as "Occupied Territory" is semantic tripe. It is no longer your land - you lost it, too bad. Maybe if you try playing nice you instead of trying to kill your conqueror you might be invited back, but it is STRICTLY the victor's choice. I don't see any of the Arab nations offering their sovereign territory to their Arab brothers from Palestine; and they (Assad, Hussein, Nassar, et al) were the ones who stirred up the trouble that caused the 1948, the 1956 and 1967 wars that cost the Palestinians "their" land. And for those who claim that the Palestinians have ancestral ownership, may I remind them that long before the area was called "Palestine", it was known as Judea - the land of the Jews.

      JBoardman: all I can say is, history doesn't just end when someone "wins". If the "loser" refuses to believe that he has lost, he might just keep fighting until he wins.

      Of course, the United States was created from land won in war from the native Americans ("FIrst Nation"), and they don't have much chance of taking the land back. With the Israelis being surrounded by unhappy neighbors, I don't think history is on their side (at least as a majority Jewish state defined by its religion), and I don't see why the United States has picked a side in this fight.

      As for ancestral ownership: besides being the home to Jews and Muslims, Palestine/Israel is also home to Christians (many Palestinians are Christians, FYI) -- I don't think any group has exclusive claim to it.

Israel is the best and strongest foothold in the region. Iraq would be another great strategic position to start bring this regressive region up to date with the rest of the world. To give you a better picture, Year 2000 Euro was 90 US cents, today Euro is $1.48 2001 I exchange US Dollar for Croatian currency "Kuna" 9 kunas for $1.00 todays axchange is 5 for one dollar. Some how your gov. manage to hide that from you. You just keep supporting Bushes and Cheneys pockets. I promise it will bite you back verry soon.

          bccomstock: well, you've done a pretty good job of defeating your own arguments. Iraq is working out well, isn't it? Israel has so many immigrants, I'm not sure they count as being part of the region...I mean they're in the Eurovision song contest (Turkey isn't), so I don't think they see themselves as being part of the middle east -- and no one likes them or wants to model themselves on the Israelis around here. The UAE and Qatar are much more admired. Supporting the Israelis continues to erode American prestige and influence in the Middle East (which is rock bottom these days, sadly).

          By the way, I am a patriotic American who has lived and worked in Afghanistan, West Bank/Gaza, and Lebanon....I've done a lot more to bring progressive values to this part of the world than you ever will.

    there is no embarrassment in this event. They fast track people like her because she has a unique and important purpose. Her ties and connections. The CIA does not care about her American citizen status. It is totally irrelevant. When ever there are clandesting practices (especially regarding double agents) there is going to be problems like this one. Which was easily resolved with little or no collateral damage. Seems to any rational thinking person this is a non-issue. We caught it, we fixed it and there were no problems caused. I would say thats something to be proud of not embarrased.

That role is not the reason we went to war. Nor are the WMDs, or the ridiculous number of violations that Saddam commited. Those were just the justifications for war. We went to war because after 9/11 we understood a comprehensive strategy was needed to prevent such things from happening in the future. The only way to curb such radicalism is to afford the people being recruited other alternatives and enlightenment. Through Democracy and liberty. Iran is the real threat. We are dug in on both side of Iran. Iran has been a mounting threat ever since Carter botched the situation so badly in 1979. But the people of Iran are sophisticated and moderate, which is why we do not want to engage Iran in a ground war. We believe the people of Iran can be incited to create regime change in favor of a real Democracy instead of the Theocracy they are now subjegated under disguised as a sham Democracy. But I am sure you will side with the ones who like to stone to death, teenagers that have pre-marital sex or are gay or dont want to be Muslum anymore...

Africans enslaved africans. Then the Europeans began trading them. Then the Europeans brought slavery to America. Then Americans fought for independance from Europe. Then Americans fought to end slavery. Fact: Anglo-saxons did not start slavery. But they did effectively end it. America had a hand in that. America also established a former slave santuary for them to return to if the so choose. It is now the sovereign nation of Liberia. You say we fought Germany because we want to rule everything? You really are so blatantly exposeing your bias and ignorance. Germany invaded her neighbors unprovoked. They made promise after promise and broke them all. America is not nor has ever been Imperialistic. America effectively ended Imperialism at the end of WW2 when we defeated Japan. Communism began to rise and was a major threat to Freedom and Liberty if it was allowed to spread unchecked. Hence Vietnam. We had a vested interest and trying to retard the encroachment of Communism throughout Asia. Hind sight is 20/20. But the real lesson we should have learned from Vietnam is that we lost that war because Congress and the American public did not have the intellegence and fortitude to follow through. Now people like you want to see another massacure in Iraq like what happened when we pulled out of Vietnam. We also did not have the historical precidents to predict that communism would so monumentally fail in competition with American free market capitalism. Then after we prevent the USSR from putting nukes at our door step, a few generations later we caused the dissolution of the USSR.

    At the end of WWII, the Big 5 (US, USSR, Fr, GB, and China) decided to give the Jews their own state, after the terror of the holocaust. At the time, there were more Jews in NYC than there were in Palestine, but not too many U.S. Senators were in favor of giving New York to the Jews as their new country. Instead, 700,000 Arab refugees were instantly made in Palestine, and Israel was thusly re-created in the desert of the Middle East. Of course, the Arabs were told that they could co-habitate with the Jews in the land, and did not need to become refugees. But that was unrealistic. How would we feel if our country was suddenly given to Communist North Korea or Communist China, without us having a say in it whatsoever? You are right, christelike777, most Muslim inhabited countries are indeed bent on the destruction of America. But why? We are not exactly blameless.

      FDJ_LA, don't you know history? Israel is the Jewish homeland. There have always been Jews there throughout the years, except when chased out/slaughtered by Christian crusaders or Muslim fanatics. Arabs were killing Jews long before Israel was established. The 1929 Hebron massacres are a prime example. Israel was not given "Palestine." Israel was given 23% of mandatory Palestine. The rest was given to Jordan. There were actually more Jewish refugees from Arab countries, than there were Arab refugees. The difference is that the Jews were forced out without any of their property, while MOST Arabs left voluntarily until the Jews could be slaughtered. Unfortunately for them, it didn't happen. The Jewish refugees DOUBLED the population of Israel, but they were taken in anyway. The other Arabs did not take in the Arab refugees, although they are the same people. In fact, 200 million Arabs surround 6 million Jews. Jews allowed the Arabs who stayed to become citizens - the Arab countries did not even do the same for their fellow Arabs, who have more civil rights in Israel than in any Arab country. Your analogies to giving the US to the Chinese or Koreans is ridiculous. When was the US considered their ancestral homeland? The reason there is war in the Middle East is because Arab govenrments need a distraction so that their people forget they are not free. Israel is that distraction. And why is it that Arabs can live in Israel, but Jews cannot even set foot in many Arab lands? Do you think this should tell you something about the 2 peoples? Muslims hate freedom and secular society. They would hate us whether or not there was an Israel. They were Nazi allies before there was an Israel. Was that America's fault too? Please read some history books and use your head - that comment about US senators makes no sense.

          Thinker: You need to do a little reading to go wiht your 'thinking' htere! The land was called 'C'na'an' or 'Caanan' - Philistia was north of most of modern-day Israel.

          The ROMANS named Judea/Israel 'Palestina' as one more way to assert their dominance over the populace.

        You are absolutely correct Makesomesense and your detractor is in fact cherry picking history by brining up individuals who may have done some unsavory acts on behalf of Isreal. If we microexamine any country's history, we can always curse their existance, yes even Canada. Isreal is a free state living amonst primitive, undereducated islamists, who, if they ever succeeded in pushing Isrel into the sea, whould then turn on each other. Hate is a very powerful flaw, and will not disapear just because you have vanquished your foe. You just have to look at what Hamas and Fatah are doing to each other as we speak. I have never seen a New York Jew throw a bomb at an Isreali Jew. Why? Because hate is not a subject they are taught in school, unlike Islamist schools JAL Ottawa

        To Makesomesense - You need to stop cherry pciking your "history". - David Ben-Gurion - one of the founding fathers of Israel himself called the Revisionists, Nazis and Menachem Begin, Hitler. They hated each other. I pay no mind I hear/read that Israel accusses the Palestinians of being terrorists. They are terrorist's too. Menachem Begin was a terrorist and led the Irgun gang which bombed the King David Hotel in Jeruselem and led the fight to get Britian of Israel. In addition, Yitzhak Shamir was one of the leaders of the Lehi, or Stern gang that killed many, many Arab people in the villages of Deir Yassin and Dawayima including woman and children indiscriminately. Anyone, let me repeat that - ANYONE who reads an unbiased view of the "history" of Israel knows that whatever Israel accusses someone of doing, they themselves have already done it and worse. Does anti-Israel mean Pro- Arab, what if it does ? So what ? In American we don;t have to belive in the bible but we sure as heck have to believe in Israel ? Um, sorry, no. Israeli's are fanatically racist towards the Palestinians. The tide is turning against Israel and it's oppressive, aparthied regime against the Palestinians. Sooner or later the US is going to cut all aid to Israel, and then, finally, Israel will have to start respecting their neighbors and learn to play nice in the neighborhood.

      I guess I'll be one of the few to back FDJ_LA's view...the alacrity of people defending the state of israel tells us how debate on the topic is shouted down by all the squeaky wheels out there. Unfortunately, that translates in Washington to the US Government almost always backing the state of Israel, no matter what indefensible things they have done. (That' s really worked out well for us lately, hasn't it?)

      I live in south Lebanon...believe me, I know about the pluses and minuses of the various groups here. In this small country of 4 million, there are at least 500,000 Palestinan refugees from the 1948 and 1967 wars, living in camps, many still with deeds from the land they were kicked off. They don't have Lebanese citizenship, and they still remember living in what is now called "Israel". Of course, the Israelis hope to establish some "facts on the ground", where these Palestianians will just all die off and quit agitating about a lost homeland. What comes around, goes around....

      Going back the original story topic: I'm unclear in my mind as to how, exactly, Hezbollah threatens the U.S. I know about the Marines and Embasy bombings from the early '80s, but things have moved on, Hezbollah is now a political party, and they have a lot of popular support. I know many people who support Hezbollah, and they are warm people who like Americans, if not the U.S. government. Mostly, their problems seem to be with Israel...and I honestly don't see how U.S. interests coincide with Israeli interests.

    why doesn't the the governement hire and outside agency to investigae the state department, cia, nsa and fbi for starters........i'll bet there aren't many people working in any one of those agencies who have put
    America's intersts first.
