So, did everyone forget who invaded the US with 9/11? I don't like war but it is providing military jobs and manufacturing jobs for the provisions they need. This does not justify war, and the people who suffer. However, it is the heretics teaching radicalism and hatred for the US, etc. that are to blame--similar to a Hitler movement-brainwashing as they have no knowledge of us unless we are there helping. And since all of big business has mostly eliminated pensions and requires you to contribute money if you want health insurance, why don't government jobs and political positions require the same? After all, our taxes pay their salaries and pensions and medical benefits and protection, too. The next time you hear a politician use the word 'billion'
in a casual manner, think about whether you want the

W hile this thought is still fresh in our brain, let's take a look at New Orleans. It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.
Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D), is presently asking the Congress for $250 BILLION to rebuild New Orleans.
Interesting number, what does it mean?
A. Well, if you are one of 484,674 residents of New Orleans (every man, woman, child), you each get $516,528.
B. Or, if you have one of the 188,251 homes in New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.
C. Or, if you are a family of four, your family gets $2,066,012.

The Republican party will pay. They have already paid some, and they will pay more. When we as a nation figure out we should not be paying proportionately more for defense than other industrialized nations, we will have reached enlightenment. But as long as we have this "we're number one"mentality, greatest nation in the world, gotta pay to keep that designation way of thinking, we will be bled to death, as the Soviets were. If we buy the "we've got to remain strong rhetoric, strong at any cost, we are doomed.

I bet you are from somwhere in the midwest, and blindly follow whatever leader is telling you what to do. i bet it has been a dream for you since you were a boy to be "like your grandpa" and GO da war!!! just so you know, my cousin served in Iraq and was in the midst of a lot of trauma, violence and bombing. he had to man a machine gun on top of a hum-v. he's from southern california and came back a changed man. he said out there the midwestern rooted soldiers blindly follow anything they're told and don't question anything themselves. no offense, USARMY, i support the troops, and by supporting them i want them out. i think you know as well as i that most people joining the army are from low income, lower class families, and use it perhaps for an education. don't you see that once you are out of Iraq Bush and everyone involved in your life right now authoritarian wise are not going to give two shits about you once this is over? i bet that in 40 years from now, you will be singing a different tune. you will be wondering why you, an Iraq veteran, aren't treated that way, you will wonder why you aren't being helped money wise, health wise, etc. you will see your fellow soldiers on the sides of streets holding up "iraq vet, need food" signs while driving up onto a freeway. then and only then will you be able to retrospectively look back and and think hmmm, "laziness and liberals" was not the problem, radicals and republicans were. the american public isn't lazy, our government and media are corrupt. while this war parallels vietnam, media involvement does not. it is well known that the public didn't become angry and shocked until pictures of their own dead and blown up soldiers made front page on the newspapers. nowadays, i turn on CNN and see updates on Lindsey Lohans sobriety. if anything should make you sick, it should be that. i don't think the american public is lazy, i think we are just looking for a leader. someone to stand up and make their voice heard and tell us what it is we need to do to make changes. i am not pleased with the democrats who, after taking back the senate, can't seem to make a dent. how is it that republicans were able to totally demoralze and bash president clinton after the sex scandal, but after all that is known about the corruption in bush's administration, democrats still can't get it done. vietnam was a different time as well because, unlike today, they didn't have an emerging worldwide fear of the disintegrating environment. the american public, sadly enough, does have more selfish things to worry about nowadays like mortgage, rising gas prices, and fires and hurricans caused by global warming. we need a leader, and unfortunately right now, it seems we have a fascist leader. the day corporations get a heart may be the day our world might find an equilibrium.

Fortony, may I ask you what you have done to make a change? The great thing about America is that everyday citizens can come together and change things. But the problem with Americans such as yourself is that you want others to fix everything instead of doing it yourself. Americans are lazy people and unless they have a realtive in the War then they really don't care abou it. They eat their Cheerios, watch their CNN and say over 3,850 Soldiers have died from hostile action, that's terrible, but then continue on their hum drum lives instead of making a difference. I support America, I believe in us as a Country and I believe in the War, we are doing great things, but the liberals want the military to lose so that they can say "I told you so"..... Those who opposed the war may not be responsible for the deaths it has caused. Morally though, they cannot walk away from it now any more than they could walk away from the victims a train wreck which they did not cause. What"s in the past is in the past. It cannot be changed. Whatever the reason for the mistakes the administration made, all of us have a responsibility to clean up our mess. It will surely be infinitely harder than the dimwits who got us into this ever imagined.

I don't think Americans have anything against Conservatives per se. This administration's main problem is their dishonesty. If people had known what the real story in Iraq was (Saddam did not have WMD's) we would NEVER have approved of the war.

We don't mind paying the price for an honest mistake. It's the deception practiced by the Bushies, from Iraq to Katrina to fired US attorneys, leaking classified info to the press, illegal wiretaps and the list goes on.

These people are crooks and those who defend them are enablers, the same as someone who watches a crime being committed and does nothing. Bush will wipe his feet on the GOP as he leaves office, another failed venture under his belt.

I hope the Republicans wake up before their party is destroyed.

Like some of you already said, George W. Bush should be tried in an international court marshal or a trial just like Saddam's was! Saddam Housien and Adolf Hitler were both great men. A bit savage, yes... but nobody can deny that in their times their contries made progress and developed greatly for better or for worse. America on the other hand has it's strength and economical power greatly diminished... figure that out. t9900, you said you cant join the military right now. why not? not old enough? i'm just curious...

I would be the last person to try to make the case that Iraq was anything other than a tragic mistake. All of the finger pointing in the world about who is responsible will not erase the simple fact that no responsible person can really believe that the way to mitigate a mistake is simply to say ???oops??? and walk away. I doubt that our trial lawyer candidate, John Edwards, ever let anyone walk away with a simple ???oops???. It may make the administration???s opponents feel better to get their pound of flesh by humiliating the principals in this administration, or by impeaching them or, even better, reviving the good old Roman crucifixion. But it will not mitigate the damage that has been done. Surely, wars are not to be entered into lightly ??? maybe the Bush-Cheney chickenhawks never understood this. But our societal belief that if you wage ???just??? wars that everything will be clear and clean is simply not supported by history. Other than perhaps Grenada, I don???t believe we have ever waged war anywhere that did not result in nearly permanent occupation of the host country ??? we were still defending Berlin nearly 50 years after we won that war. We continue to occupy Korea. We did get out of Vietnam by losing that war. And yet opponents of this war want to pack up and leave in the wink of an eye. Sure we can do it. But it is not reasonable to believe that we can do it without compounding many times over the suffering we have already visited on that place. We made the mess ??? it is morally unthinkable to walk away without cleaning it up ??? whatever the price. In the end Bush and Cheney will undoubtedly get all the ignominy they deserve. If they get what they want, Reid and Pelosi will end up as the creators of the final lasting image of this conflict ??? people who thought they could count on the USA clinging to the last helicopter out of Baghdad.. Shame.

The tone and tenor of most of the comments here is a reminder that in the United states (as elsewhere) the median I.Q is around 100. That's just about enough to enable one to balance a checkbook or operate an XBox, but a standard deviation or two less than required to think outside the issues as framed by the White House and its compliant media stooges. When I read comments like those of Mr. t9900, I'm pretty sure that Alexander Hamilton was right about the dangers of democracy.
