Islam is a dangerous cult which is not suited for modern societies. They want political power and will do anything to get it. The US must stop ALL Muslim immigration into our country. It is quite stupid to think they will not do the same thing here once their numbers grow. Just look at the mistake Europe made. This is not bias, it is our right to let in whom we choose. While not all Muslims are violent, the religion itself does not integrate into western culture.

seconded mister jibran..........u have rightly pointed out that IJT isnt a militant group nor does it preach islam

Regardless of what happened with Mr. Imran Khan was an act of utter shame and disrespect I still feel the urgent need to correct the respective writer. First of all the student party is not Islamia Jamiat TALIBAN, its Islamia Jamiat TALABA ( talaba means students) , it has nothing to do with the talibans, please do not deliberately create misunderstandings in thw eyes of the western word.

Secondly it might be affiliated with an orthodox party but it is not a MILITANT islmist group. Its not even a islamist group, its only affiliated to a political party which uses the name Islamia, but there is no proof that they follow and preach the truth about Islam.

If the name makes that much of a difference then can you kindly explain that how conservative is the conservative party of UK. And isn't the Republic party of America for democracy but its rival party is called Democrats. Please uphold the spirit of responsible journalism.

    Yes Jihad Lives Here???.

I happened to read the article, ???Where Jihad Lives Now???, appearing in Newsweek (October 29, 2007). On the face of it, it seems to be presenting as an objective point of view. Yet the very next moment, on its through study, its authors, Ron Moreau and Michael Hirsh, emerge to be alarmists and propagandists. The picture they paint of Pakistan is clearly one- sided. For this purpose, they have resorted to exaggeration, showing no respect for objectivity, balance and even integrity. To be a bit philosophical, let me say that distortion does not change reality on the ground. And fortunate are those who can see reality as it is. It enables them to be effective interventionists in shaping things.

Anyhow, any serious student of Pakistani history knows that, in one sense or the other, Pakistan has always been an American ally. Even today, it is fully imbedded in the war on terror usually led by America and the west as well. As far other organs of its society, its mainstream political parties are secular and pro-west. Its military, civil bureaucracy, judiciary, lawyer???s community, media, business class and the whole public educational system, all are predominantly secular and westernized. In sum, as the authors of the article themselves admit, ???Few Pakistanis have any desire to live under the militants??? rule???.

It is also worthy to be noted that, at this juncture of its history, Pakistan is set for western model of economy and democracy. So much so, one, of its main political domain, Ms Benaziar Bhutto, has come forward to be daringly and unapologetically pro-west, even at the risk of her life. And the bright poster in this scenario, President Musharaf, how fantastically proving his speedy journey against terrorism, even in the circle of fire.

In view of all these hopeful, promising signs, how can be said that Pakistan is a place ???Where Jihad Lives Now????? Yes, in today???s Pakistan, if jihad lives at all, it lives against jihadis, Taliban themselves. It is jihad for moderation, liberalism, secularism and democracy. And for the first time ever, all the said pro-west forces in the country are set to own it. So, who can say that ???the whole nation seems to be saying that this is not our watch, this is not our war????

while admitting that the treatment to which Mr. Imran Khan was subjected to was an utter act of shame and disrespect i feel an urgent need to correct the author.
the student body which "roughed up" imran khan is called Islamia Jamiat TALABA (talaba means students in urdu) its not called Islamia Jamiat TALIBAN. It really seems a deliberate act of creating confusion. Futhermore the IJT is affliated to an orthdox political party but its neither a militant body nor an islamist, as the author mentions again and again. Just endorsing the work Islamia doesn't necessary mean that this student party endorses the true essence of the religion Islam as well.

If so is the case then how conservative is the conservative party of UK and if the republican party of USA is for democracy then how come its political rivals are called democrats.

This article very cleverly is very misleading not about the treatment of Mr. Imran khan but definitely about the existence of militant islamist student bodies in Pakistan.

We would appreciate if the notion of responsible journalism is endorsed.

It is good that you pointed out TALABA means to be students. Now, please educate us a bit more. What is the meaning of TALEBAN ? I'd appreciate if you can keep it simple this time.

These sort of steps would never be appreciated by any political activists or on the leadership level, Imran Khan had been always loved by youngesters throughout the country, mishandled helped Khan to rise him even more higher, so Imran should have thanked students who were ingage in such crime. Apparently that was a conspiracy, looks like just a group of students who had paid for act like this, otherwise majority of the students were with Imran, very next day had proven the popularity of the great man, chanted slogans longlive "Imran Khan".

Jamaat-i-Islami has a strict and rigid chain of command. The treatment meted out to Imran Khan by its student affiliate, Islami Jamiat Talaba(IJT) must have been fully coordinated with the Jamaat-i-Islami.
The incident fully exposes the myth created and propagated by Musharraf that he is serving as a bulwark against Islamist parties. On the contrary, this incident fully exposes the unabashed marriage of convenience between Musharraf and Islamist parties.

this is a drama ....A BIG DRAMA.......our government is directly involved in this
whatever those jamiat men did was not the backed by the students and this was proventhe very next day at PU
by the way IJT is ISLAMI JAMIAT--E-TULABA and NOT TALIBAN .......tulaba means students
and tell u what .....these ppl r not actually islamists though they claim to be.......
all what they do is to take undue advantage of working under the banner of IJT and more irritatingly ISLAM

Imran Khan is not just a politician but a national hero. His historical acheivement of World Cup 1992 can never by forgotton by the nation. He is the voice of new generation, those who fed up with traditional politics are mad about him. His struggle for social cause, development of health facilities, Shaukat Khanum Hospital one can never ignore. People of Pakistan can never think of such brutle behavior from the students. Students though support different political parties however still fan of Imran Khan.
This is another step of miltary dictator, already knowing that students are the righ hand of Imran Khan and in the current situation he will definetely visit colleges and universities to gather his support.. Mr. MUSH programmed this incident with secret agencies.
Mr. MUSH Please under stand, your time is over , quit this dignified seat with dignity.

Imran Khan is the only Pakistani politician who has proved to be a straight forward person working hard for the independance of judiciary. I pray for his success and hope that in the next general election, people of Pakistan would vote for him. We as pakistani citizens need to evaluate our affiliations with the polticial parties. Under the current political turmoil, where the dictator and his B Team has shown that they can go to any extent for the sake of retaining whatever they want, we as the masses need to thrwo them out as soon as possible, otherwise we should be the ones to be blamed for the continuation of dictatorship even though he is hated by 83% of the population.

WE NEED TO RISE FOR THE SAKE OF OUR NATION AND VOTE FOR POLITICIANS LIKE IMRAN KHAN

Well, Mr.Moreau, did you see what happened at Punjab University the next day, I haven't seen crowds that big at PU. A spontaneous, spur of the moment protested emanated when a hundred students gathered to protest against IJT and the crowd soon grew to over 3000 people on Thursday. Then on friday, over 6000 students came out in the open to back Imran. These included some members of IJT. Imran indeed has instigated the students, he has made them realize that they ought to come to streets for the restoration of judiciary, and for a better future. So, after two days it seems, Imran's miscalculation was right on spot!

Islamists egual disaster for Paksitan and they are approaching it pretty fast. Hope Imran khan learned a lesson. No maulivi in Pakistan can be trusted. Even the judicial system Imran is fighting for, is corrupt to the core and have political agends of their own. Untl there is eduction and free thaught process people in our country will be in chaos. In our setting democracey is a facade for feudalism. In a nation where people are assigned to bring votes by buying their poor peasants or votes are bought on promises of jobs or land, what kind of democracey it will be. Musharaff needs to stay in power if we donot want Pakistan to turn into Afghanistan.

Millitry is not a name of single person Mr MAD.There is a dividion in millitry as well on the basis of school of thought. And the history of PAKISTAN(if you dont mind to read it) has proved it.Similar IJT is very happy at the date of coup.Because he was the "LION of KARGIL"And everybody knows about how the operation is taken at kargil.

We cant say that military has relations with JAMIAT.... Today in lahore there is a big strike going on by IJT .. and there is armywho has banned it... they have arrested some of those IJT representatives.... IJT is straightly related to MULLa log....

    Jamiat and Agencies
Now its clear to everyone that jamiat has relations in agencies after their own report.
Although students did nothing but a routine job.It is not happening first time in PU.Voilance is their asset.

Imran Khan, just like the insecure thugs who roughed him up, is a Muslim, but the similarities end there as Imran speaks unassumingly and passionately about his love for Islam and for his homeland of Pakistan in a manner befitting the beauty of the Holy Prophet's blessed way. His Islamist enemies, on the other hand, shout Islamic-sounding slogans but are thoroughly corrupted in ways associated with the vilest hypocrites who plotted against the Prophet and his Companions. To any doubters, this incident alone should be ample proof that fueling the mad shouting of every Islamist is a rabid fascism that will drop all pretense of Islamic norms (the quintessential 'adab' which the Holy Prophet personified) to grab and/or protect worldly power. After all, why all this talk of Islam when these people haven't even learned that arrogance is exactly the crime for which the devil became the devil? Any Muslim associated with such misguided souls can never claim sincerity in his/her religion.
